Don’t think you do need a digi if all you drive is analogue but if you ever have to drive a truck with a digital taco then you can’t until you get one. Can’t use the Ive applied for one either if it’s your firstIf you have a digi card and drive an analogue wagon you need to keep your digi card on you so they can check both, if you have not applied for a digi card you dont need it.
I drive an analogue and I have to keep my digi card with me in the wagon.
Agree if you have one you need it on you when driving, even if never used, but if you’ve never had one and all you drive is analogue then all is rosy until you have to drive a digital truck then yes you need one before you can drive it
It’s £300 for offence of Fail to use Driver Card these days and if you’ve already used your normal days hours it will probably mean you won’t have enough time left to get a daily rest in so depending on how much extra you do between £100 & £300, plus a Prohibition from driving for 9/11 hours, plus £80 immobilisation fee.

Ask the driver of any lorry with an Irish name on it… or with some unpronounceable East European name.
Can you qualify that or do you just believe ALL that you hear?

Ive tried magnet today. It does not work.
Bits of kitchen stuck all over my rig. Still recorded my breaks etc.

Some tacho calibrators will ask you if you’d like to pay extra for steel sender ,or just have a plastic one ,which is perhaps why your magnet hasn’t worked !
I think it was the sink that was faulty.
Money down the drain.
Empty EE car transporter pulled up beside me in Swiss services last yr, he hops out, shoves short wooden ramps under tractor wheels, drives up 'em.
Engine off & he pops into overalls looks around in a furtive manner, then scoots underneath the truck, under a minute later he’s out, does the reverse of above & he’s on his way.
Magnets in action?
Another one, my tacho calibration place in Hampshire had a Portuguese truck brought in by cops they had followed him at well over 56mph on the A303 & when stopped he was fiddling madly with his mobile, seems he had some sort of phone activated malarkey afoot with the restrictor & tacho. They ran it on the machine at well over 56 anyway so I’m sure he got well clobbered for it.
