RT Keedwells advertising for drivers on Facebook. Apparently you get paid two different rates, £15 for driving time, £12 for when the wheels aren’t turning.
Couldn’t make up the level of stupid managing that company. No doubt they’ve done it because of all the time drivers were tossing it off at deliveries to try to make up their miserable pay rates to a half decent wage so they’ve brought this in not realising drivers will just now dawdle around at 45-50MPH.
dozy:
Sounds a more plausible reason for all these drivers driving round at 53 mph than it’s stress free , they get a reduced rate when sat
It is stress free though. Try it.
My trunk to Southampton today took me approx five mins extra in each direction driving at 53mph and I got to watch the world go by about their day.
Whisper it quietly but I drove back the other day at 50mph
I have tried it , I lasted a few seconds then floored it , I’m not convinced you loose only 5 mins doing 53 mph instead of 56 mph from I assume rugby - Southampton , watch how fast you pass a lorry at 53 mph & how much distance you put into them in not much time
If I did 50 mph I’d not get back , which as you know stresses me out more than anything , 3 days is enough these days , not 3 days and a night out
I want to go faster not slower !!

Well if you think about the normal route I take is A5 from DIRFT to Towcester, that’s all 50mph max, then A43 with its multitudes of roundabouts so your probs topping out for half the time therefore only losing time half the time, M40 is what… five miles at 53 instead of 56? Then the A34 some of which is 50, some of which is hilly etc etc.
Or just do the maths… its 119 miles one way. Travelling at 56mph all the way (which we’ve established isn’t legally possible) it would take 2h 7m and 30 seconds. Doing it at 53 all the way (which again isn’t legally possible) it takes 2h 14m or six and a half minutes difference.
That six and a half minutes means I’m not chopping lanes, not having to watch for gaps to nip into, not having to elephant race or rip down a hill. I can sit and watch everyone else do that plus have enough speed in reserve to whizz past slower moving stuff. Plus i save some of those minutes fuelling up with gas much less at the end

It’s 115 miles by road from Crick to Southampton (might be a mile or two more or less depending on exactly whereabouts in those places you are going to/from).
If you maintained 56mph for the entire trip it would take 2hr 3min. At 53mph for the entire trip it would take 2hr 10min.
Sploom:
I do 53 to save the overspeed, the merc I drive will let it go to 59mph and then I get an overspeed, but keeping at 52.8,it only goes up to 56 downhill
Aren’t ECM paid two different rates? A higher one when driving. That seems odd to me, as with a car transporter you’re working harder loading/unloading but getting a lower rate of pay. I know they get all sorts of bits and bobs on top, and are on a very decent package, but still! that bit strikes me as a bit odd.

It’s to encourage you to load quickly and get back on the road. (Although ECM do the job at a sensible pace tbf and don’t seem to rush)
If it was the other way round then everybody would be taking ages to put a load on (why wouldn’t you if you were getting paid more), then driving like a banshee so you could get back on the higher rate as quickly as possibe

How old is your Merc■■?
New ones at least, you have full choice of what you set the overspeed to (full as in how little, not how much).
Plus the driver is always in control of overspeeds, not the truck, double plus, mercs give a “too fast” warning before recording the overspeed.
