RT Keedwells advertising

It’s quite straightforward. If your employer uses Telematics to monitor your driving style, they expect you to make maximum use of cruise control and to use “over-run” (where the truck is in gear but foot off the gas AND off the brakes) as much as possible. They also want to see NO over-speeding at all (not just the longer over-speeds that are flagged by the tachograph). Setting the CC at a little under the max increases the driver’s Telematics “score” as it avoids the need to take CC off during down-gradients to manually use the exhaust brake or having to dab the brakes to keep the speed down, both of which will negatively impact said score.

It has SQR(FA) to do with Keedwell’s advertising, but addresses the query raised subsequently.

SWEDISH BLUE:
I have a spare barge pole if anybody wants it

I wouldn’t touch them with someone else’s barge pole.

Why would they not want over speeds? Surely they should want over speeds upto the speed limit

I’ve never used it, just seams a little crazy to me!

My employer says it’s against EU law to exceed 56 mph.
So that’s their rules.

They don’t watch the news then? Brexit happened a few years ago!

EU law states that an lgv may not be POWERED beyond 56 mph. UK law states the speed limit for lgv is 60 mph

Our lot had me in for doing 59/60mph,told me to sign infringement “As exceeding vehicle speed limiter is an infringement” I asked them when our old motors were set at 52mph why then didn’t we get one for doing 55mph??
I didn’t sign it and they never came back with answer either :unamused:

I worked for the Coop that enforced all that crap to. Cruise control as much as possible no over speeds, green band driving, harsh braking, cornering etc. While I agree with some of it ie not driving like a mad man I think it makes a driver look more at the dash board than what’s going on out the windscreen. Using cruise control around town for example and using it to increase speed, not the accelerator pedal, basically button bashing the steering wheel. Also if you had an older trailer that didn’t hold air so had to build the air up after a drop you’d get picked up on engine idle. The scores were even put up on a board every week like some sort of competition. Don’t miss that at all and wouldn’t choose to work for a company that enforced that sort of driving

Seems a complicated way of working things out, I’d guess they’re paid off the tacho? If so then the big hourly rate is more paid by the minute than the hour. Do you go onto the little rate when you’re sat at traffic lights for 2 minutes? The 5 minutes waiting at the gate?

Sounds like the drivers will need to be scrutinising the timesheet and payslip every week, fork that.

If you are not happy, you can always go to Russels. They advertise with a big banner next to M80 in ■■■■■■■■■■■■ 12 quid for class 1. Nothing about paying more when wheels are turning

While the specifics are, as you point out, hazy we can be sure of one thing - the scheme will not be put in place to allow drivers to earn more, I’m sure it will be worked by the company to their own advantage.

At least they’re consistent I guess
