blimey is it a month since i reported last.
well although i do pop in and peruse the site, keeping up to date with whats going on in good old blighty there isnt a lot happening here.
i am still at camp liberty near the airport and still doing the fuel tankers every night.
at the moment we are still waiting for the internet to be put into the hooches and have been told it will be the end of september although the pigs have already started to line up on the runway
we still only deliver to the 2 camps and stil at night. so dont get to see much of the outside.
A few weeks ago we were heading for camp D7 and were stopped on the road in Baghdad due to a car that had run over an IED just a few hundred yards ahead of us.the 4 occupants were blown to smithereens and we had to sit in the dark for 6hrs while it was all cleaned up.now we were told that they were planting the bomb at the roadside when it went off but one will never know.
this meant we had to stop at the camp we were delivering to for the whole time till we could go back to base at 11.30pm that night which in a way was good as all we did when we got back was upload and go home .
mind you we did not have an over night bag with us although we all got a hooch for the night/day .
this gave us the chance to look round the camp in the day and visit their PX/DFAC.
Lo and Behold the very next trip out we went to the same place and this time we were held up at the camp due to late downloading we had to stay there
again.
now onto the next exciting instalment
.we had just del to the other camp we go to and as we were lined up waiting to pull out a mortar round came over and landed about 200ft away just the other side of a building that i was opposite.well flmes and sparks were everywhere the siren went off and the military at the gate were in their little bunker while we were trying to leave oh what joy
the last bit of excitement we had was about 3 days ago we had just crossed the central reservation to go up the slip road onto the road where we run through the shopping area when the AK47,s started going off .
the area on the left of us was a mixture of palm trees and various undergrowth and they were hiding in there.well i was first to call it up on the radio and stuck my LH indicator so the truck behind knew what i meant by it.the rear gun truck did fire off some rounds but by the we had gotten out of the area.
I did have one bullet mark on the side of my truck just about head height but apart from that no other damage
anyway thats about it at the moment so stay safe all and hopefully internet will be up and running soon so i can post some pics.
