ross on wye cattle market

Look forward to calling in

Wow lots of great advice ! … sarge it will be open sunday so please pop in and say hi to jess , i totally agree with the idea of us getting a percentage of parking money also about the meal vouchers of Ā£5 which would mean parking fee of Ā£16 inc voucher .
As ray owns the kit that is on site then we will have to carry on paying for the use of it even though it is very hard at the moment .
We do get the bikers in sometimes and all seem happy with the place also tom who had the place before advertised for bikers welcome … we are going to get the signs on main road for cattlemarket changed to say about truck parking and food also talking with council about the signs on tuesday .
The builders have been about showers so i will go see when they doing them and push for answers on the parking issues including secure parking .
Thanks for all the responce much appreciated.
Regards hunter 40 … and jess !

I think you should concentrate on getting a good regular trade passing through first before shelling out money on showers etc. :bulb: If the trade doesn’t pick up then you’ll have wasted a [zb] load of money for no return.

Just a thought. Heard sometime ago that Worcester cattle market was looking for additional income streams. Last time I went there - they had a good kitchen and plenty of parking. Its close to both junctions 6 and 7 of the M5 on the Worcester Bypass and is always heaving on a Wednesday - market day. I have often wondered why they never ran a Park and Ride to the nearby Hospital - It would be win, win for all.
If it all looks like its going sour and I think to sumarise we all pray that it doesnt - would a move be feasable to you?

the worcester lorry park is signed posted into the town centre down by the race course thats why no1 knows about it.

Hunter40, just a suggestion, maybe you could try spreading the net for customers a bit wider
What about making Bikers welcome and maybe caravanners & motorhomers they all have forums somewhere on the internet. The travelling season is upon us and lots of clubs get out on the road maybe you might be able to make your place the ā€˜ONE AND ONLY’ stop off for the ubiquitous ā€œBacon Buttyā€
;

I agree with this one too, well the bit about bikers anyway

That was my concern too, bikers and truckers live on the same planet, caravan drivers would want the standards of the Sheraton with prices from Primark.

It’s a chicken and egg situation once you’ve built a good regular customer base you’ll have more leverage with the landlord cos to some extent you can pack up and start again but he’ll still be left with a miserable ā– ā– ā– ā–  hole. But until you can prove your putting money in his pocket all you can do is keep up the good work.

Again. I think Rob is probably right, having been spoiled by European standards, unless the showers are of first class standard with a cleaner than I would forget that until you start making a profit from food sales. We don’t live in the desert where there are no other facilities. I have always managed to fit in a shower during the day while on a driving break, that way you are all talced up and odour free when you park up at Ross.

Anyone who comes in and doesn’t eat should be parked next to the fridges, generator and electricity pylons on their next visit so they cannot get a TV or internet signal :smiling_imp:

Ā£25 parking with no meal voucher

£16 parking including £5 meal voucher only available in cafe with set meal

I’d agree with something like that. Bottom line is you don’t want anyone in who isn’t going to eat as you don’t see any income from it. :bulb:

More good advice  it would be good to think of alternatives like the park and ride if things dont work out , as for the showers the site owners are paying to put them into their existing toilets in the main brick building not the cafe , so should be ok … it is them that want to improve the site for drivers so im sure the showers will be good.
good idea about the pylons for them not eating i will get electric company to install a couple :smiling_imp: as for caravans we will offer same food same prices with reversing lessons at discount prices and advice on how to load the caravan so it dont wobble and fall over when doing 90 miles an hour down country lanes  could make a fortune teaching some of them ! will update after talking with site owner tuesday … if he is not gone away ! sarge i hope you are not dissapointed !
Thanks again all

See, you are thinking on your feet now, you can earn ground rent for electricity pylons standing on your property and your idea of caravan driving lessons is good

We got there too late :frowning: Your man was sat outside, having just locked everything away - my wife’s fault for wanting to stop and have a nose around Hereford :unamused: I said to tell you ā€œHiā€, and I’ll catch you again
Mike H

sorry you were to late sarge , horrible when fancying something and get there and its shut :frowning: never mind maybe next time … put sleeping pills in mrs cup of tea before you leave
thanks for stopping by anyway .
Dave

There was a pub just down the road, so I made her buy me a pint instead :smiling_imp:
See you soon

Stopped in thursday morning 4 breakfast (first chance I’ve had since Hunter took over) Can only say what a hell of a differance  Attitude couldn’t ask for better - didn’t want the full brekky, OK he says what do you want on the plate? - food absolutely no complaints, all good freshly cooked and decent (unlike the last time I had the misfortune to be marooned there  ) everywhere within the cafe area was clean, inc’ most importantly the cooking area, and you could sit on the bog without fear of going thro’ the floor
Big thumbs up to you mate (assuming it was you) I’ll be back and making sure I let our lot know about you now (S & K)
See you again

Popped in today on my way past, nice little place!

Great eggs!

Glad you all lived to tell the tale ! we dont normally get many survivors so its good you still have all functions working … yes Jess is doing a great job with the cooking and cleaning he knows how important it is for good clean honest food .
We felt we had to do the toilet floor when we 1st took place on as we feared customers going through floor to lord knows where !
I am told by the owners the showers are being installed but still not had finish date on them , so will pester again next week need them asap with the hot weather .
Takecare all … roll in sometime
regards hunter

Hi all , been on to highways agency to ask about proper signs and been told we are not able to use signs on road as we do not offer a full service to the public ! no fuel sales or rest area so next option is see if any of the land owners near the roadsides will let us put signs on their property on trailers as these dont need planning permission .
The market guy wants meeting monday to see about the showers and other things he says showers will be done very soon , we hear this every week but he says its happening.
More to follow … i hope !
regards hunter40

Hunter, if I ever get a job ( ) I’ll stick a magnetic sign on the trailer for you

Thanks sarge  thats an idea some stickers for trailer doors :exclamation: :exclamation: could get some window ones too … you got me thinking now :bulb:
Hope you get work soon mate … good luck
