RORO work, tips?

Good luck Benjie. You get the job mate and I’ll personally apologise for doubting you and I’ll also personally guarantee that if we ever meet you’ll not need to put your hand into your pocket to pay for a cuppa/pint.

Yeh…I’ll second that (also being a bit of a doubter myself if you would ever take a driving job. )
How much of a doubter?..I got better odds at the bookies for Newcastle winning the Premier league next season… …(sorry mate, only joking   )

So if you prove me wrong, (I ain’t as wealthy as Maoster, so a pint is out of the question, :open_mouth: ) but I’ll go as far as a tea :sunglasses: …but only if it’s out of a 10p type vending machine.

Stingy northern git! You’d be able to buy the guy a pint if you didn’t fritter and waste all your money on sat navs and hair care products!

Btw like the way you call me a ‘Northern’ git…and you a Smoggie! in yer posh gaff in Lincs.
What is it these days…Middle Class aspirations.

I like to keep in touch with my roots by talking to those like you!

Torch, kneeling pad and a piece of tyre chalk. The men in yellow coats just love pulling foreign trailers and boasting about what they’ve found, so cover yourself and make sure you can have a proper look at the underneath for bits fallen off, disconnected, held on with wire etc. You don’t need to go lying underneath the thing, just kneel down to look for anything obvious from where you can see. They adore looking at tyres, and remember tyre defects are points so mark the sidewall on one tyre and drive forward a few feet to see the rest of the tyre. If you are reloading the trailer and it arrives the other side with a damaged tyre there’s maybe someone doing the job properly over there too, and you’ll get the blame - not good if you missed that it actually came over like it in the first place. You can raise the suspension to see the top of the tyre. If it’s a stepframe on small wheels then there’s not a lot you can do.

Cheers Chester, you sound like a man who’s done this a good while lol [emoji1634]

Really is a lot too this type of work, makes me really appreciate how much brain works involved.
Real baptism of fire which I hope I could get too grips with fast enough…

Not too sure how many of the lands ports I’d visit, but I do sense I’ll be seeing that’s neck of the woods a lot, only drawback as I’m trying to get outta Essex, not get deeper into it [emoji28]

No worries been on and off them for about 25years. there’s nothing too taxing with them just can be hard and dirty work more often than not there’s no real distance involved an trailers for the north will normally be shipped to Immingham . Don’t forget if you go Felixstowe your first port of call will be port office for Rhides card if you don’t already have one and that’s not open 24 hrs . And 1st thing you remove is your palm couplings as they won’t be on there long if you forget them . Harwich is good you can park overnight in the port as you can unit only around the trailer park in Felixstowe .

Gonna need a bigger note pad I reckon, especially if I’m gonna add some of me own to your 25yrs worth [emoji28]

Be a case of see/know what’s with the unit equipment wise, then as you gents have said, maybe build a bit of a personal arsenal to overcome some of the quirks I’d no doubt encounter, borrow a winding handle of another trailer ont Dock stylee [emoji23](that’s a joke BTW before I get nailed[emoji28])

Cheers man, Yeah I’m in no doubt about the filth either, believe a lot of their works bailed waste so I’m ready there, two pair of gloves will be bought, an no doubt 200kg of 5th will have been scraped up trailers nose for good measure so I’m gonna see what uniforms on offer, if not its £2 trackies off tesco an bin em as they get nailed [emoji1]

Guessing most Roro loads are not high value perse, so seals an stuff won’t be as much of an issue as they are on box work?

If it’s sealed your not allowed to take it off dependent on customer

You’ve had dozens of interviews and not landed a job? Is it you or them?

What is it you’re holding out for exactly? I remember your confidence or some thing was a bit off the edge when you did your week at stobbies, have you sorted your mental health out now? And have you done much driving since?

As said above chap, and many times before,
We all got too get what’s best for ourselves/circumstances/commitments as goal 101 and that’s it.
Some of us just have more juggles than others [emoji28]

I LOVE to work, but I do not live just to do so, nor do you I’d assume…
So if we’re gonna do a 30+stretch, may as well enjoy it. An if that means a bit of patience an a few unforseen spanners like covid then so be it.
Strangely it’s actually thanks in part to covid I’ve found what I’ve been looking for, funny how things work hey [emoji38]

As for my mental health,
Weeeeeeeeeell what’s normal for my dinner is probably off the menu for your tea eh.
But I’ve now got corn flakes in the bowl before 4am instead of vodka/kittens an the drips from me own veins so I reckon I’m nearing the world’s ‘desired standard of normal’ again, although self praise an all that… [emoji849][emoji38]

My take on it for what it’s worth (don’t know the o/p, just from what he puts on here)

I think he’s holding out for ‘The PERFECT driving job’ , a bit like a middle aged guy saving himself for the 40yr old virgin…it ain’t gonna happen, cos there ain’t any.

There are good driving jobs, bloody good driving jobs, and driving jobs ranging from average to different grades of absolute crapness. :bulb:…but NO perfect ones. :bulb:

I reckon he went to Stobbies believing all the hype and bullcrap they put out and was sadly disillusioned when reality kicked in, and he’s now running out of options.
No offence to o/p, just an opinion and an observation.

It’s no good being TOO picky and choosy in this game, ok you don’t just take any old crap job, but you do need to lower your sights sometimes.
I was made redundant from a bloody good job in Belgium, and Christ did I get a culture shock when I started with my present outfit, but you just need to adapt and get on with it.

The o/p can have that Robadvice for free. .

And I thought you were playing nice([emoji38]) either that or your trying to get them odds in your favour, or skip paying for pints an have my pants down on the chasers… [emoji38]

Stobarts, weeeeell maybe a little bit, but come on who don’t want to be seen in green just once an be envied by all others at sea [emoji8]

NAAAAH truthful it was simply convenience for training and that foot in the door first roll of the dice as I said at the time.
Just so happened the staff/drivers were sound blokes, which is why leaving was ■■■■, but I had too as has been said many a time.

But this hopeful start is the best of all the boxes I need to cover and I hope I can do em a good turn an be able too stay for some miles if they can except my perfume taste an I can live without a V8 [emoji17][emoji38]

for the rest, aaaaaaaas above, above, as always [emoji16]

Vodka at 4am and blood dripping from your veins? was that before or after your week at stobarts?

On a serious note, if the above is true, then you have to be careful with your mental health, and long hours and stress isn’t the best idea. I guess that’s why you’re being picky with what job you choose?

And in reference to your post to robroy about your stint at stobbies, was it their tv propaganda series that tempted you? I was tempted myself when I watched it a few years ago. Knowing what I know now though I would have to be extremely desperate to work there, Dressed in green or not

I hope you find a job that suits whatever it is that you’re juggling. I won’t join in with the wagers. I truly hope your Improved mental health lasts mate

All true boss.

But thanks for the encouragement[emoji1634]

Yeah I’m good, the underlying issues now are not MY mental state perse, its a personal issue which is sadly not the best for anyone to have to deal with, esp the folk it’s affects directly.
Me, it’s collateral.
But a direct personal amount of it.
But it’s well in hand and lifes in place now to manage it for everyone’s best needs so I’m cool an so are the folk I give the only ■■■■■ about.

Reverse is gonna be a worry as always but roro should slap me into shape.

Long as I’m paid, I’m getting laid [emoji106]

Nah, I’ve always eaten kittens/vodka, Stobarts was just icing [emoji23]

It’s a hard line to walk with regards to opinion on stobart.
I know they are ruthless(known about WAAAAAY before I went there from a gooood amount of personal experiences) but in all fairness they give new lads a shot… (ulterior motives aside)… which considering most firms want 2yrs now ffs is gonna put maybe alot more new lads in a position to either accept or…

And they don’t run bent, yeah some of the gear is flogged out which is sad to see from a pride in your gears point of view, but perks are your paid on the dot an the money for most is above general averages from what I’ve seen, been offered, and generally heard, but as has been said top money comes after stripes earned, you get the luck, or just won’t accept less than your ideal.

And yes, I’d still be happy to watch a cracking episode of stobbys whilst sharing a pint with doze, and my other adoring fans off here, chewing the cud on load security an fionas manoeuvring skills…
