roping and sheeting

Regarding Vosa and Health & Safety, how many times in a day, if you listen to Radio 2, do you hear of a road being closed due to a lorry with a ‘’ shed load ‘’.
I know there wasn’t many lorries with radio’s years ago, but I bet there wasn’t as many shed loads when roped and sheeted loads were the norm.
Cheers Dave.

Drivers who taught me in the sixties could have literally went round the wall of death and the loads would have stopped on. Jeh.

Decent job, but don’t look right without the rope. :frowning:

Got the ropes on just forgot the sheets :unamused: (what do you reckon Dennis)

He’s got to be an “Owner driver” John(and a greedy ■■■■■■ at that, man after me own heart  ) and he sure has started at the bottom with that little motor,he’s that keen he even has a box in the “cab” next him.I guess he must be in the “cafe” having his breakfast, well a bowl of egg fried rice with bacon bits in it ! Wonder how far he has to go ? One thing for certain he defo isn’t a “Chinese Fast Eddie” motor as them boxes would be all over the ■■■■■■■ road at the next corner    Cheers Dennis.

It was actually a lady owner/driver Dennis, there is a video somewhere of her driving the thing.

Pete.

Now funny you should mention Lady drivers Pete, this is a shot of the one and only Lady driver I employed at Bewick Transport and boy did I get some flak from the Traffic office for doing so  She probably couldn’t compete with this Chinese bird as far as “loading” was concerned but then again I wouldn’t fancy the chances of the Chinese lass of trunking from Dunstable to Irlam/Radcliffe and Milnthorpe and back every night eh! Cheers Dennis.

The marquee company I work for still runs flatbeds and we rope and sheet our loads. We don’t do it ‘proper’ as in sheets for the load then a flysheet, we just have a single PVC sheet for each lorry, we run 7.5 tonners and an 18 tonner rigids so nothing very big and as our work is mostly local its far easier to just use one sheet, considering it would be coming off again maybe an hour down the road. It’s still nice however to be a small part of an art that is very nearly dead, and there is definitely pride in looking at a load you’ve sheeted and roped ready for tomorrow and knowing ■■■■ well that ain’t moving an inch. I’ll try and get some pics if I get the chance, though me standing there with a camera while everyone else busy might not be the best political move, but will try. I know John West was asking in the ‘old lorries still earning their corn’ thread for pics, so I’ll endeavour to deliver.
