ROMANIA

Going to Romania on my next trip, what can i expect ?, from the Police, customs, etc. a colleage told me he was relived of two hundred euros by the police, no ticket given, but if he did not pay he was going nowhere, He has been known to tell tall tales  . Done most of europe but first time here, Thx

it’s 14 euros per day for road tax, cash only.
get 10 days tax in hungary, it works out cheaper than buying it per day. but you can get that on DKV.
make sure your axle weights are right, it’s 1 euro per kilo.
you are weighed on your way in, and again coming out
draw money from a cash machine. don’t pay for [zb] all on your debit card. it’s roughly 50 lei to a tenner.
police are ok in both romania, and hungary. don’t get caught speeding in hungary.

when are you going? i’m going in the morning. 2nd july.

Hi mate
things got better in Romania when they joined europe even the roads have less pot holes now 1st time i went was in 2007/8
and they were just starting to do the roads then . as for the police only had dealings with them once lol showed me were the ferry to Bulgaria was (FOLLOW US ) :open_mouth: Then asked for money told them i only had eruros then he asked for 12 euro when i asked what for he said port tax gave it him asked for receipt and got a scrap of grubby paper with 12 e wrote on it lol but we didnt argue just glad to find ferry across River danube and get outa there . i use the rouse border now or even go to Bulgaria via serbia what your mate said could be true though depending when it was it used to be very corrupt …
like radio says buy tax in hungry but not off the roma kids at the border . never done the trip in large truck only 7.5 ton iveco and car but belive me dont leave your truck unatended and be carfull with credit cards ect .
they stopped my citi bank card when i tried to use it for fuel in Romania untill phoned them to confirmed it was me using it …that was embarasing as i only had euro and the garage didnt exept it  I thought they were gonna send for the police when card was refused once i phoned citi bank all was ok and the reason they stopped my card was because card fraud was rife there once a garage had your card number …
i havent be over this yr yet but planning to goy to yambol Bulgaria before september lol ive driven through Romania no less than 6 times now and never found the same route twice lol just dont go in to Bucharest its total madness dont think anyone stops at junctions or traffic lights there .

have a great trip i wish i was going Roy

do they have any toilets in romania?
i was parked in a service area near venice last week and the amount of women who got off the buses and went to the toilet on the grass next to the trucks was â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  disgusting, there were loads of them with the old headscarves and flowing dresses so i guess they were roma not just romanian but even so its still filthy

Least they went on the grass, not on the parking area like some of our brother truckers :open_mouth:

The ladies were spreading their axles.

I would have thought shedding their load Toby but normaly in the villages in Romania /Bulgaria / Serbia
its a Triangolar hole in the grownd with two brick so your feet dont get wet   stopped once at a garage in serbia the toilet was a half wall lol i sat there on the inside smiling at the people walking past . :open_mouth:

Bergen Transport have closed their whole road transport operation last week. They had several lorries on the love boat going to Romania a few years ago.

Malcolm Harrison sold all their vehicles last Saturday.

Probebly cost them more in tyres and suspension than the work paid on them roads Wheel-nut eh.60 trucks gone
thats bad news for a few then though wish i could find a firm who did Bulgaria on a regular basis that would just suit me then it would not cost me anything in travel to check my house out over there lol  it wouldnt matter which direction i was going in i would be going home …

Sound like not much changed in Rumo then,

I don’t see how having a ■■■■ on the grass or in a hedge is a filthy habit, better than up a trailer wheel or brick wall

It’s one big one in my opinion I’m afraid - only country I actually dislike :frowning:

Shame about Bergen’s, not sure they’ve done much Rumo lately though, mainly UK boxes?

Bergen have not done any International since 2004. Regarding the closure of the transport side,
I think the owner just had enough of Transport full stop and decided to pull the plug, siting the cost of fuel, wages & rises in insurance. Quite a few of the Drivers are now back in work for local companys & a
lot of the old International lads are still about , working elsewhere while 1 or 2 still live in Romania. Had quite a number of happy years there, on the International side & UK boxes, now just memories.

Well got back from trip on Friday, The drop was in a place called ,Poiana stampei, which is up in the Carpathians, was parked at the border for the weekend and had no problems, will try to do a diary in the near future as i took a few photos . I must say that most of the people i met were friendly and cheerfull, even though they have a pretty low standard of living, I was expecting to see a working girl every 500 metres on the side of the road , Must be all in Spain at the moment  , and having someone picking the door lock of the truck every five minutes, Must be in La jonquera  , for their hols
