ROMANIA

Stevie B[Bergen]:

Wheel Nut:
Bergen Transport have closed their whole road transport operation last week. They had several lorries on the love boat going to Romania a few years ago.

Malcolm Harrison sold all their vehicles last Saturday.

Bergen have not done any International since 2004. Regarding the closure of the transport side,
I think the owner just had enough of Transport full stop and decided to pull the plug, siting the cost of fuel, wages & rises in insurance. Quite a few of the Drivers are now back in work for local companys & a
lot of the old International lads are still about , working elsewhere while 1 or 2 still live in Romania. Had quite a number of happy years there, on the International side & UK boxes, now just memories.

I’d have thought they were 1 of the few actually making a profit, due to the age of their fleet, can’t possibly have any finance outstanding on them.

They used to leave their trailers at Fright (deliberate) Liner, knew a couple of their drivers from when we’ve had a few minutes spare in the queues and also from when Steve’s butty van was still outside

We thought the same as well. Dont think he owed a bean on anything .Shame really, good company to work for over the years

My old man did a charity run to an orphanage there in the early '90’s. I remember him telling me he was driving through Cluj on a busy 4 or 5 lane motorway while the other driver slept in the passenger seat. The road was a gentle incline and as he went over the brow and start to descend he could see that the road was entering a tunnel that the trailer wouldn’t fit under. (Not a sat-nav error, before sat-navs!) He had no option but to stop while the traffic flew past sounding their horns etc but it was all one way, busy as hell with no way to turn round. As he and the other driver looked at each other wondering what they were going to do a Romanian police car pulled up so they thought they’d be in trouble. Far from it, the police car saw straight away what had happened, turned straight into the oncoming traffic, indicated my dad to follow him and with his lights and sirens going drove straight at the oncoming traffic! All the cars swerved out of the way while he cut a swathe through the busy traffic until the old man could find a suitable exit. Once he was ok, the cop car took off at a rate of knots and he never saw it again!

LoL dave
Yeah sounds about right over there its a wounder that the copper never stopped and asked for some kind of tax for the ■■■■■■ :open_mouth: but i find they have a better sence of humour than the brit coppers …
