Robson road haulage scania centurion early nintey's

RS005D1136:
Ralph Davies had a few centurians if you look at there web site theres a picture of one

He had at least 2 as far as I remember J777 and J888 I think but don’tquote me on that. I seem to recall “mike” the german having one of them.

Was Mike from Chesterfield…?

I assume you are aware that the post you are querying was written nine years ago… Robert

There’s a guy from Wigan who does shunting on Seaforth docks with a J plate 113 360 6X2 rear tag centurion no 88, he bought it of another friend of mine who ran it for quite a number of years. AIG now defunct from Burscough own a heavy haulage J plate 143 centurion unsure what number will try to find out. If memory serves me right it was re cabbed after the night heater caught fire and totally gutted it, luckily the driver got out in time!!!

I work next door to there old yard, and seen the 143 parked up in corner, hasn’t moved for a while and the occasionally see people working on it. One of AIGs old 144 scanias still runs out of the yard with a white 4x2 Daf, dont know who runs it now, but still got a couple low loaders and flatbed loading out of Bache Soletanche or Byzak.

its nice reading about the Centurions. Scania 3 series for me, best truck ever!

As far as im aware there was an oval badge on the grille showing the Scania horn emblem along with “100 years” dates.
Some operators didnt like - or want - the “CENTURION” logo on the sunvisor or the badge stuck at the bottom of the cab door. PETER ROFF was one of them…so unless you were eagled eyed, it was sometimes difficult to spot a Centurion from a distance.

heres a few of my Centurion pics to add to this great thread

im not sure how many Roffy had…

heres the 2 mentioned earlier on this thread…

Patricks always had “one” top o the range motor in the fleet. This Centruion was a snatchback from someone in Yorkshire i think (D S Walker maybe?).
Why they kept the reg number, i dont know.

Mike Garbutt had this new and eventually sold it to an O/D who ran it on Cave Wood work. It then passed to Stuart McMurchy who put it into his fleet.

Im now all fired up about the 3 series  so im starting a new topic
see if we can attract as many hits as my “truckin in the 80’s international” has got!!!

Top man Ash. The best motor ever IMO

Definately the starts of another thread again truckerash i’m enjoying your old photos from the 80’s. I used to own an F reg Iveco 220.30 will have to have a look for some pictures. Hi Robv8 i know Willie quite well used to sub along side of him at R Barkers, i’m on for Johnson’s and sometimes swap boxes in there i’ll keep an eye open for him see what he’s planning on doing with his scania. Whilst on about limited edition trucks anybody know of any Seddon Atkinson Strato silver knights circa 92/93?

im sure i have some centurians pic’s somewhere but i dont have a scanner anymore…

dont matter anyway as im moving house all the pic’s are boxed up somewhere. :imp: :imp: :imp:

I think the oval grille badges were fitted to many Scanias sold in 1991 and not just Centurions.

It’d be nice to know where the 100 Centurions ended up and how many are still doing a days work, but it seems no one has a list of where they all went originally.

The grill badges were available on all 1990 Scanias.

At Fieldings, as well as the Centurion, all the motors had them because we got a big bag of them from Walthamstow Bus Garage which had just got a fleet of Scanias but didn’t want the badges

oops i got the centurion number wrong it’s actually no 33

I bought number 57. Reg no was J500 PJK. They were done to celebrate Scania’s 100th anniversary.

just found article on them in trucking international june 1992.

I know this is an old thread but I came across it by accident so I thought I would add a little to it. If I remember rightly from my childhood Gordon Leslie of Paisley had 4 Centurions, all 113 with the flat roof streamline cab. If the stories are true then I believe that Mr Leslie was a bit miffed as he wanted the single biggest order of Centurions but some mob in London ordered 5. On where they are now, Kerbey Motors of Aberdeen are running a 143-500 centurion which is one of the smartest 143s you will see on the road today.

Kerbey Motors 143 “Centurion” is fake, it was in truck & driver mag a few years ago and had pictures of it before it was overhauled, its really only 450 BHP and not even a Centurion.

Theres MLC’s Scania Centurion on eBay now:

my dad drives no 78 belonging to tommy macanna

Just wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of one of our old centurions, the old reg no was J100 DMS, belonged to D. Mortimer & Sons from Wiltshire, can’t remember what number it was but was definately a 143-450 centurion. Last known was sold to an irishman about 4/5 yrs ago. Would love to see some old photos of it if anyone has any. cheers.
