Robinsons stockton on tees also b r s trunke

Hi All,
Im new to this site. Im now 67 and I was a night trunker for F & F Robinsons of Ware Hertfordshire. The trunk consisted of leaving Ware at 19-00pm and the first stop was the Cafe at Stibbington on the A1.
From there we would run up to the High Street Newark for a mid-night change-over. Can’t remember all the names of the tunkers from Yarm Stockton but here is a couple — Ronnie, Bob Ballerstone, and whats his name who went to New Zealand Jimmy Roy, sadly passed away Roy Roy who moved from Hertford to Grimsby. Yes there were four of us trunkers each night from Ware and four came down from Yarm. Most of the loads came out of ICI. Half cab Fodens, just tin, no comforts in these and if the heater packed up in winter certain things turned blue. Yeah I drove the eight wheeler Foden and who can say that they have driven a drumerderrie wagon up the A1. But can you remember, Robinsons was one of the first to get the Scania 110s was they something to drive in them days, King of The Road.
Best Wishes to all
Bill
P.S. have a photo of Robinsons half cab Foden outside the Ware depot.

Hi thanks for the reply, I first got to know Robinsons when they first came and opened the depot at Cole green the then manager lived in a caravan where I to lived, I also remember a older chap from birch green, although I did not drive for Robinsons I use to know many of the drivers by site and some I went to school with one was bob whom I remember well but sadly not been able to trace around Hertford
Although the 1st stop was at the café Stibington sometimes a stop took place before this at stapleford rail yard here there was different type refreshment with a young girl called Ann, whom was always hungry, well I meet her while on holiday two years ago and talked about old times. If you remember anything about these days please contact me on 69bill@live.com as I still am in contact with her. Bill 5

I remember the Teeside lads used to have their break at Markham Moor. Those half cab Fodens were a very distinctive cab and the engine noise must have been a nightmare.

Hi there
As you drove for Robinsons do you come from around the ware Hertford towns? As I myself came from a small village called Hertford heath and went to Cowper school. But as I get older I do not travel far from home
Would it be possible to send a copy of this photo of Robinson’s half cab Foden outside the Ware depot.as I would love to see this? One of the places I worked for was Borden chemicals across the road from Robinson’s yard; also for a time and in years later I drove for Greenwoods and could be away for a week at a time.
I phoned a very good friend from our driving days and said I had received a few replies she would love to hear from any driver that remembers the times they spent together she gave me permission to put her email on this letter she also said a lot of fun when she stopped at k/cabin on the a1 her name was Ann her email chadna123@hotmail.com Bill 5 PS PLEASE CONTACT HER AND NOT THROUGH ME

hiya,
I remember Robinson’s used to meet up with one of their shunters at ICI Cricklewood
he was delivering dry ice the motor’s I always came across was those half cab Foden’s
I got the “honour” of driving one (200 yards) the only time I ever drove a Foden not a
great distance to evaluate a motor I know, but far enough to say never again, how the
regular lads did big distances in those things defies belief, of course I was driving for
BRS and had a near new Mandator, no contest.
thanks harry long retired.

Delivered fuel to Robinsons in Yarm road Stockton,to the filling station and the haulage yard which where of one,old man Robinson was a one not to be buggered about as any one who worked for him will know!!! Heres a photo i found on the net thanks to who ever put it on.

Yes, it was Brian Rosier, and who later succumbed to Securicor. I dimly recall reading something at the time, and which said that Mr Rosier had worked for Robinson’s very early in his career - have I remembered that right?

mrs Rosier worked in the Ware office when i worked therethink about 1964
