Some of you older drivers must have seen this outfit around.

Yes,I remember them Dave and they had a big fleet.I suppose most of the work was steel out of South Wales and/or Shotton? Did they run a trunk from Swansea to North West via a Knighton changeover?

I remember them well Dave, I used to go past their yard 2-3 times a week when I was delivering car spares for BRS, on my way to Auto palace at Llandrindod wells, which I suppose has long gone. Occasionally had a night out at Crossgates as I also came back that way from Swansea. Later years I was delivering metal to small engineering companies at Llandovery, Llanelli, Milford Haven and I always came back that way over the sugar loaf up to Knighton- Craven Arms-Bridgnorth so the Roberts fleet was a regular sight.

Hi Trev,
Autopalace packed up a good few years ago,the building is still there,it’s been split up into offices, also got the natinal cycle museum which was set up by the late Tom Norton the owner of Autopalace . I go in there a couple of times some weeks to an office where I do a bit of part time work, bought a Greeves moterbike off Autopalace back in 1964.
As for Roberts old yard as atkidave has said its now a small industrial estate,it’s a shame really, because Roberts employed far more people than all the units that are there now,but thats the way Knighton has gone,no big employers there anymore.
Cheers Dave.
A line up of Roberts fleet in the early 90’s.

The reunion is on 1st October. Bob Davies is organizing it, he’s a driver for Mervyn Thomas. I believe it’s at what was the Norton in Knighton.
