BMC, Leyland Comet & Thames Traders were bought from S W Brisbane, also of Knighton. 567 BWN was an eight wheel flat & 944 CWN an eight wheel tipper. The Leyland Comet still carries Brisbanes colours.

Some of the Thames traders he ran.

Hi Dave,
The BMC pictured next to the Leyland Comet came from Brisbanes as well, they had two Comets, don’t know if Gordon Roberts bought the two off them, he did paint the one in Roberts colours, because I remember changing a wheel on it in 1963 at Philpotts just after I left school, also remember Roy Cunnington driving the BMC coming there for something. Roberts had an account with Philpotts at Kington, the two lorries on license to Passey Nott refueled there every night.
Cheers Dave.

i think that is FWN 527D in your clipping. Here it is from the front cover of a Goodyear brochure with the same Murfitt trailer

and shown later on in its working life (mid-late 70’s)

Do you have anything on Vitamilo from Bristol? Roberts bought some vehicles from there in the mid 80’s. 4 tautliners, 2 of them were yellow with Wilsons dog meal on the curtains, a Renault unit in Wilsons livery and a Daf 2100 6wheel curtainsider.

Cheers Dave

Being the ultra anorak :unamused: I can point out that it’s either had a cab rebuild or replacement by the time of the last photo, as it has gained the wide front and rear wings on the cab, but still has the earlier and narrower 5 ton front axle. Looking again, perhaps it’s a fresh cab, as it now has a pair of top mounted wipers as well, rather than the one up and one down of older Mk.1 cabs.

Hi Dave,I’ve only a few (crap) shots of Vitomilo lorries,a Leyland Buffalo,a 400 series Sed-Atk and a 401 Sed-Atk,do you think these went to Roberts?

Bubbs.

Hi Dave,
Get those pics on here there will be plenty of interest. I used to go to the Vitamilo works at Keynsham near Bristol when I was a kid, with my Dad on Passey Nott, also with Ted Moss on one of Roberts Thames Traders. They used to collect flake maize from Vitamilo.
Cheers Dave.

yeh keep em comin , remember them well they had a depot in swansea round the corner from geo beers where we used to backload steel for the north west happy days

.

atkidave:
a couple more for today.
The first is taken at the Ludlow Road yard mid-late 60’s. No buildings had been erected. Before moving to Ludlow Road, Roberts used the yard on Bowling green lane, knighton, the same premises Roy Edwards uses to run M. A. Evans from now.

Hi Dave how is Roy Edwards I heard he was not too well? I have not seen him for years we used to trade together when he was running Knighton trucks the Scania dealership, if you see him tell him John Gregory from Portsmouth died a few weeks ago and is being buried tomorrow (Friday) I’m certain he would have known him from truck auctions!

Regards Pat

Cheers Dave
