When approaching a motorway closure, say at the 800 marker, trucks are in lanes 1 and 2 but the smart arsed in a rush car drivers are steaming down the fast lane, am I the only one who gets ■■■■■■ off with this?? Last night in this situation on the m6 south I thought [zb] it and straddled lanes 2 and 3 so no traffic could pass, kept pace with truck in lane 1 who duly let me in at the last minute, question is am I braking the law doing this? And does anyone else do the same??
All your doing is causing further tail backs you’ve just shown your ignorance by preventing anyone from using a open lane.
Just because someone else don’t want to let someone in by using the zip method you’ve just caused the problem further back .
Can understand the frustration. Was on M1 heading towards Derby and the lane closes to one lane. Low and behold a little white car goes bombing by me completely unaware the lanes go to one and he has to slam his brakes on to avoid hitting cones and the two artics to his left. Cheeky ■■■■ still slipped in between then causing one lorry to brake.
It’s people like that that I’ve no sympathy for at all when accidents happen and they come off worse.

If you want to be traffic police go join the police. Lorries aren’t allowed in the outside lane of a 3 or more lane motorway.
Highway Code
Rule 134
You should follow the signs and road markings and get into the lane as directed. In congested road conditions do not change lanes unnecessarily. Merging in turn is recommended but only if safe and appropriate when vehicles are travelling at a very low speed, e.g. when approaching road works or a road traffic incident. It is not recommended at high speed.
Rule 288 - Roadworks
Where lanes are restricted due to road works, merge in turn (See Rule 134)
the days of the knight of the road lorry driver and the courteous car driver are history, dear sweet good manners will never return its a free for all now, you’ll find many lorries queue jumping and forcing in at the last moment just the same, and blocking live lanes one or two as they force in just before a busy exit.
They call this bullying routine zip merging, i call them something else.
so do whatever you want on the road because no one gives a toss any more

As already said point taken, frustration crept in and it was an error on my part, lesson learned
Mick, you’re not playing by usual trucknet ways. You’re being reasonable and open to opinion. Normal practice on here is for everyone to argue black is white with fingers in their ears, then the argument gets all shirts off outside over the keyboards, then a few meek apologies.
Seen a lorry do exactly what you done one night on the m6, next thing I see a jeep squeeze up the side of the lorry and stop in front of him then the jeep driver gets out and try’s to pull the lorry driver out of the cab
Twice now I’ve seen truckers do this on the smart sections of motorways during lane closures, blissfully unaware that because they are between two gantries, that the lane they are blocking has re-opened and is now a live running lane again.
If there is no red x just an arrow pointing to change lane, I usually stay in lane until road or lane closure. Or red x . Nothing wrong there… even if I may be moving quicker than lanes 2 3 or 4

Does it matter if the car driver gets in front of you? When the roadworks end and the roads clear he can zoom off and hes hardly going to hold you up. They’re determined to get in front of you but youre right behind them meaning they gained, what, 6 feet?
Who cares? Relax. Its not worth getting worked up about.
Unless its an Audi or a BMW of course. Then id say its acceptable to side swipe them into the cones.

Nothing wrong in that. Despite what Carryfast would have you believe…

What? That all these roadworks are Thatchers fault and part of the socialist agenda to get freight off the roads and onto rails?
