Roadkill, Dog or Cyclist

Strange title I know but a few weeks ago I had a dog run out on me at the same time I was overtaking a cyclist- now instinctively I slammed the anchors on and lurched towards the cyclist on the left who i had just passed, luckily both where OK as I was passed the cyclist enough for him to react. I apologised (to the cyclist) and cracked on.

But this got me thinking do I value a dogs life more than a cyclists or was this just an instinctive reaction for self preservation to avoid a collision.

Thinking about it in reverse I don’t believe I would have swerved to the left if a dog was there and a cyclist pulled out on me, just a random thought but does anyone one else on here value human life lower than that of an animal, to be fair your all cattle to me but thats another story.

If it was a child or even another cyclist you would of done the same thing. Something running out in front of you will always make to try and stop as its unexpected, the cyclist down the side of you is traveling in the same direction so you can plan your moves in plenty of time.

Thats the funny thing I have been in situations when someone has pulled out but not lurched to the left, perhaps a moment of madness or instinct but we expect these dramas and I was always taught to either just carry on or brake as any sudden steering action could make the situation a lot worse.

Just got me this as it was a dog I choose the dog sub consciously over the cyclist.

Maybe a one off as I don’t hate cyclists any more than the next trucker but they really shouldn’t be on the road.

Both come flying off the pavement straight across the road whenever it suits them.

go for the cyclist he should have been trained in how to stay alive on a bike, the dog was probably looking for female company and we all know what dogs and truckers are like for that.

And here we go again.

Just had to highlight that little bit, lol.

Crazy dog lady here… I would have braked, gritted my teeth and prayed. Pretty much the same as any other incident on the road, I would never consciously swerve and risk an innocent road user. Would break my heart to kill someone’s pet as I would automatically think of my own but I’m not sure if could live with myself if I deprived a family of a loved one

save the dog…kill the cyclist…no brainer?

Cyclists don’t pay road tax,so they shouldn’t be on the road.
Whereas dogs…well,I’m sure they would if they could

It’d depend on the breed of dog. If it was a Jack Russell called Lucy it deserves to die.

Good bonus points if you can stop with one trapped under the offside wheel and one under the nearside?

Got a mad aunty who’s got one called Lucy and it tries to attack me.

Pinch some of your mad auntie’s perfume…spray yourself liberally…sorted

Save the dog every time, a cyclist on todays roads must have a loose brick whereas the dog knows no better but if it’s a cat accelerate and aim for the middle

If you want to be pedantic, we pay a vehicle tax to use our motors on the road.
