Has anybody got one of these cameras in the cab to record all the time?

Its probably worth getting one of these so you can not worry about getting into trouble when some ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā car driver decides to test your brakes and you decide not to bother to take him up on his offer
Id like one but 200 quid is too steep for my wallet
Dunno if itās the RH-1 but I have a Roadhawk camera supplied by Towergate Insurance for free.
Thankfully I havenāt had the opportunity to test it for real but Iāve viewed some of the recorded footage & itās a very clear picture. Iāve also mentioned the camera to various police officers & they are aware of the system & have been impressed with how easy it is to use!
I bought one, specifically to try to protect myself from potential ācash-for-crashā scams.
The picture is spot on during the day, although its a bit poor at night on unlit roads. Iām not sure how much of the nightime footage would be useful if you did have a bump? Howeve,r Iām sure youād get a decent idea if something did happen.
I will say that as an absolute technophobe I found the whole thing incredibly easy. It plugs in straight away and the downloading is a simple process too. Its also easy to swap between vehicles, I put it in the van to go to work, then put it in wagon for the day. Takes literally seconds.

Hereās an example on a dark road. The unit has sound although not shown here. Probably hiding all the swearing!
Iāve no personal experience of them but hereās a video clip taken from a Road Hawk that caught two mechanics joyriding in a customers car.
This is beginning to look like an essential peice of kit. I would certainly buy one if I was an owner driver, or if I worked for a company that made me pay for accidents.
Perhaps in the mentime a couple of stickers - āTruckHawk fittedā would deter the buggers.
I have installed my own " homemade" video camera . Its a Toshiba Camileo S10 . I have it on a winscreen sucker fitted to a tripod mount . I have already captured some interesting driving on it !
Like Zebadee, Towergate insurance gave me one to use and I get some reduction for agreeing to use it. Not been used in anger as such but Iāve āāstoredāā plenty failed suicide attemps by Audi and VW Passat drivers , and an incident of a van jumping some traffic lights and T-boning a car.
Dead easy to use, fit and forget as they automatically come on/go off with the ignition, you just have to remember to press the āāstoreāā button if something happens which puts a flag on a 30 second(adustable)section of footage and stores it and saves it from being over-written after several days.
One thing to bear in mind though is that the device also records sound, so an incentive to keep those phone conversations short , also I showed my family the recording of me being pulled by a VOSA galaxy and the subsequent conversation recorded with Mr VOSA, which for some reason they found extremly funny
but such recording equipment might come in handy if it went pear shaped and you were accused of doing something that you hadnāt
No more singing along to the radio thenā¦Just incase the worst happens
Thanks for all your replies. Iām going ahead and buying one of these.
I found a voucher code for 10% off wscc1 at dogcam sport
is there no way to stop the sound, just incase i stumble into a dogging area
I use one of these roadhawks mainly because I live & work abroad and knowing the justice system isnāt exactly fair I decided this was the best protection in the āunlikely eventā of an incident.
I agree with the others, its is really easy to install and use. I had to tweak the trigger settingsā¦one is the standard, then there is a āshockā trigger which on a rough road will continually take a new clip of film. Dropping the sensitivity means that the pothole has to be a lot bigger before it trips for a new clip.
As Joe says it can be set to record sound so any conversation you might have with a cop can also be reproduced as evidenceā¦but also need to stop talking to yourself.
Clarity is good although its almost impossible to pick out other numberplates unless really close
Only thing I found is that I would have prefered to have it dash mounted but the camera mounts from the top and you canāt swivel the lens 180 degreesā¦anyway now its tucked up under the rear-view mirror out of sight of those who look in.
The other thing Iād like is a password/lock on the flashcard, in case it gets stolen - but Iām not sure how youād fit that up and for sure it could make it more difficult to use.
All in all, fitted and forgotten about and reassuring to know I have it

yes, part of the set-up you can switch it off through a laptop/card reader
Boss gave me mine today supplied by Towergate insurance, as said before real easy to set up took me 5 mins and 3 of those were reading the manual
i need to go into the settings though and set the sensitivity as every little bump on the road and the bloody thing beeps and the red light starts flashing

yes, you can also turn the alarm off as well (it is annoying, isnāt it)
Richard, you should send your ideas to Dogcamsport if you didnāt already. They are always interested to hear of feedback on the device and software and you just never knowā¦
I got myself a 16gb card and leave the unit on continuous record, I can get the best part of a weeks work done before it starts to overwrite.

Hi Saxon,
I did contact them about turning the lens 180 degs, they said it couldnāt be done and afterwards I admit to opening up to see for myself but the lens unit is hardwired to the circuit boardā¦I thought there might have been something in the settings that could reverse itā¦its not the end of the world.
They responded very quickly to the suggestion and have to say they seem a good bunch of people to deal with.
Iāve just got the std 4mb card, which for me and daily journeys of no more than 1 hr is adequate but I see where youāre coming from with all-week recording
