Santa:
Perhaps in the mentime a couple of stickers - “TruckHawk fitted” would deter the buggers.
I think process has begun: yesterday I was on the M18 behind a tipper truck with a sticker saying “forward facing camera fitted”. At the time I was fairly puzzled by this but I see its relevance now. I can imagine in the near future FFCs may be as common as satnavs and mobile phones

Richard, you should send your ideas to Dogcamsport if you didn’t already. They are always interested to hear of feedback on the device and software and you just never know…
Hi Saxon,
I did contact them about turning the lens 180 degs, they said it couldn’t be done and afterwards I admit to opening up to see for myself but the lens unit is hardwired to the circuit board…I thought there might have been something in the settings that could reverse it…its not the end of the world.
They responded very quickly to the suggestion and have to say they seem a good bunch of people to deal with.
I’ve just got the std 4mb card, which for me and daily journeys of no more than 1 hr is adequate but I see where you’re coming from with all-week recording
Hello All,
Hope you don’t mind jumping in on this.
In actual fact, Roadhawk RH-1 cameras that have the more recent firmware update have the ability to be mounted upside down. The camera will detect this and will automatically flip the image for you when you play back the file.
This was done after a lot of requests about dash mounting the camera using the sticky mount that comes with it.
Richard, please try this out with your camera and if it does not work…contact me direct and we’ll get your camera upgraded for you. (even if you did sneakily open it up…i would have done the same thing!)
One is where I have velcro’d it to the dash, it needed a couple bits of blu-tak either side to stop it sliding when I cornered…main reason for this was to have it quickly removable to avoid the tea-leafs…but then decided to use the parts supplied and put it here>>>>>>>>>>

those mechanics joyriding are from my local garage. not good, thought i recognised the road
The garage is on the A435 at Portway.
I believe the garage has changed hands since 16/09/2009 when that video was recorded but as you live local you may know if that’s correct, either way I’d be surprised if those two mechanics are still employed there, unless you know different
thats right, portway just next to m40/42 island. up from gorcott hill, that garage has changed hands severall times and after a bit of research this event was not a isolated incident. 2 or 3 other garages within redditch and studley have all had similar reports against them.
this is why whenever my car goes in i trip the ECU into valet mode. basically puts the whole car into a limp home mode which only i can remove it from. all controlled from a nice box of fiddlys

RoadHawk/Dogcam
Just received my RH1 yesterday and immediately set it up in the cab.
First thing…it only records ‘right-way-up’ video in the horizontal plane.
I was wanting to mount it onto the side window but mounting the RH1 in the vertical plane means video is recorded on its edge and there is no setting in the software to rotate the video 90 degrees clockwise.
Due to the length of the RH1, mounting it with the suction holder onto the near-vertical windscreen of a truck makes it very difficult to position it with a good view, as it just fouls the glass. It seems to be designed for a sloping car windscreen.
Installing the software, it seems to default to Program Files, (yes I know that I can install it anywhere I choose). But on a 64bit system, only 64bit programs should install to Program Files. 32bit programs should install to Program Files (x86)
It’s early days yet but I like the product but it does have a few basic niggles.
The date files come as ub.1 files. Does anyone know what software turns a ub.1 file to a avi file. So that you can put it on youtube, it must be possible as there is roadhawk videos on there.
I’ve had one of these cameras in my truck for a few years now and apart from helping out another driver I’ve never needed it myself , until this week .
I was involved in an accident on thursday not much damage to my truck but the car that side swiped me was badly damaged . Both the occupants of the car (husband and wife) gave statements to the traffic cops saying that i had veered into their lane causing the accident. When the cops arrived at my depot to get my statement I was in the frame for a possible careless charge as well as our insurance being liable for the damage but after the cops viewed the footage from the cctv camera their attitude totally changed and I was informed that their report would state that I was not at fault and would face no charges , result.
Would I recomend one of these cameras ■■? Definitely.

Done a google search on ub.1 files and hee-haw!
The Roadhawk software itself does that. You should be able to save as .ub1 or .avi although that’s just the video itself. To video everything, gps positioning etc. such as shown on that video where the 2 mechanics take the car for a spin, you need screen capture software and the best is probably Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio.. As always there’ll be free alternatives, this may be worth a shout… Camstudio. Just a stab, haven’t tried it like.

Hi,
The camera will only work the right way up or inverted. It won’t automatically flip the image if it is on its side.
If you use the suction mount with the lever arm towards the top then you can mount the camera at the top of your screen and adjust the lens to point down a little bit. We did quite a bit of testing with this can you should be able to get the angle right if you play with that suction mount a bit even on vertical windscreens.
Thanks for the note on the software, I hadn’t noticed this before now!

There is an export function in the software but by exporting to AVI you will lose the GPS and G-Force data, you will just get video and audio. We used camtasia to make the sample videos for youtube. There is a free version also called camstudio which will also do the trick but is not as powerful.

Am i looking at the right screen? What button is it?
Yes, the right screen, it is the second button to the right of the speedo readout, the one showing the picture of the disk (save button). The default option is .ub1 but there should be a drop down box that you can erm, drop down, to reveal the .avi option.
Not sure but I remember a box popping up on RH saying I was missing the xvid codec. Can’t remember if that was to do with the avi saving or something else? Think it might’ve been. I’m sure Dogcam will fill in you in better You can get that xvid codec here:-
