In my car one night, about 12 years ago, I suddenly came upon a family of 3 or 4 rabbits caught in my headlights as I came round a bend, sitting upright in the middle of my lane. Though the road was lit I hadn’t seen them, I had no chance of missing them, and heard that grisly thud. I looked in my rear view mirror and they were all laying flat together. I’d knocked them down like tenpins. What I remember the most was the terrible way I felt for some time after.
