Winseer:
There’s a downward-mirror on the windscreen, so unless this drive hasn’t done their blue-paper wipe-off of mirrors and reflectives at the start of the shift, there’s no excuses for not being able to clearly see a whole car across the front - is there?
Bright sun, visor down &, in the DAF I drive, the downward mirror is obscured by the visor that pulls towards the driver. The passenger side visor opens against the windscreen. That has to be a design issue?
What surprises me is that the driver apparently never noticed that something was wrong until it was pointed out to him, it would be more understandable if he was driving a weighted vehicle rather than bobtailing.
yourhavingalarf:
It seems incredible to me that some people can’t see a car right in front of them.
In an XF maybe but not a CF
It depends on how low you have the driver’s seat and how tall you are. The lower your eye line the further forward your blind spot is no matter how high the truck is.

I did it with an empty trailer and didn’t feel a thing.
I heard a relatively low bang and then checked all my mirrors before realising what I’d done.
All I can say is that when a car decides to cruise by your door on the near side then this can happen amazingly easily.
Still remember the womens face ans what she said. Still remember the child just bursting into tears. Like me the bloke will be a better driver for this. I check my mirrors an insane amount before changing into a left lane now.
Normally I’d be the first one to spit on RM (worst drivers alongside Tuffnels and TNT) but the body language of the car driver screams ‘guilty as ■■■■’. If I was in that car I’d be out in 0.5 seconds after he stopped and start swinging at the truck driver. He just sat there like he was scared of the RM guy. Royal Mail - only the best™!

Bright Sun? - The vehicle was travelling due east with the sun SSE at best, around 11am by the looks of it? (Angle of shadows to the road)
In the video @ 0:24 you look across the front of the now-pulled-up tractor… Note the houses in the background as per this pic below…
Co-ordinates on the snapshot for the exact location, Greenford junction Eastbound on-slip onto A40 towards Hangar Lane junction…
The picture on GoogleEarth was taken in the Summer time, with the sun a lot further to the NorthEast.
The footage fresh as of this week (therefore taken in December) had the sun SSE which makes it around 11am for December. Up and Right from the Driver’s line of sight, plenty of scope for them to see the car across their front - simply by looking in the windscreen down-mirror, leaning forward, or setting the seat slightly higher…
I might even speculate that the car perhaps shot out of a slip road, where it was only lightly kiss-impacted by the tractor going along doing 40mph, so that no impact was felt in the cab… It would have been felt by the car driver though, who must have bricked it being T-boned in slow motion eh?
Here’s a fresh vid, this time curtesy of the Torygraph…
There’s “tyres screeching” clearly audiable in these videos as well… Perhaps the driver was deaf as well as blind eh?
I guess this story won’t be making the Guardian though, as he’s clearly “above criticism” in their eyes eh?

Once inside the M25, people might well be afraid to lay any kind of, let’s say “aggressive criticism” upon an obviously ethnic driver, albeit an apparently local london one (Full timer’s uniform, London accent) One needs to be careful - they are all aready on the correct road route to the scrubs after all! (Turn off left at Old Oak Common Lane )
Juddian:
Noticed the new habit of car drivers though, forcing into your lane as soon as their thick empty head passes your front bumper even if you’re still there
This happened to me a couple of years ago.
Someone in the office did ask me about this a few days later but I told them what happened and I never heard anymore about it. I presume because the occupant was told there was camera footage he decided blaming me wasnt going to work out well for him.
I have no idea if this was deliberate or if he was just basically a moron who cant think 10 seconds ahead but the road was empty and he still moved in when only have his car was past. Still baffles me what his thought process was
I also dont edit videos specifically so theres no doubts about what happened previously so skip to about 03.45.
I’m also aware I lose bonus points for the embarrassing wiper activation. Who puts the horn on the wiper lever?
(I only have a youtube channel to upload videos incase they are needed as evidence for anything thats happened in case of complaints. There’s nothing exciting on it)
It made the news hour on radio 4.
They had some expert on. He didn’t blame the driver did praise him.for stopping.
Anyway he then went on about technology. There needs be more technogy on trucks over 12t. More sensors more cameras.so it doesn’t happen again
I’m no expert but this isn’t a regular thing just 1 I million .
Then he stated on cyclist they need to be protected more…from next year all new trucks by law need cameras n direct vison panels
.
But this incident now we are campaigning for more sensors.more technology. And we went all trucks to be retro fitted. All trucks not just new ones.
Be a point soon be so much technology beeps things to watch were be to distracted to even drive
I know some dont like cameras. In times like these it will show when the VW driver came on to the scene.Judging by how cool he was he knew what he had done.
the 30 seconds prior to impact would certainly be more interesting to see, though i might be inclined to think postman pats lack of awareness might have been due to listening to bob marleys greatest hits a tad too loud on the ghetto blaster,or whatever ?
In the footage we have here, the driver is clearly easing off, and coming to a gentle stop without much brake use.
Then you can hear him from the cab shouting back at the surrounding other drivers as if he doesn’t know what is going on…
FFS how many people would gently ease off and stop if they heard someone shouting at them■■?
Of COURSE he knew what was happening, but the need to feign ignorance - escapes me here.
RM will jump at the chance to sack him “if he’s senior enough” for such action to save them money, I reckon…
It’s a kinda “reverse parole period” one might say…
The longer you’ve worked there - the less chances you get before it’s a case of “open the pod bay doors hal…”

The night classes in subtlety was money well spent
The footage we have here from a guy hanging back making sure he got a good video, in the full knowledge that the driver wasn’t aware. Eyewitness account of other cars passing by without sounding the horn. This is where society is at.
likely he saw it but in the moment of panic floored the accelerator and didnt let up. That happened to me years back ,lost control on ice but instead of letting off gas i pressed down hard on accelerator and only let off when i was high n dry stuck on top of a fence

Those tyres screeching - would have been louder than his puny car horn anyways, one would have thought…
The car driver didn’t look very shaken considering though eh?
Not much bother from what must have been three lanes of following traffic either, for a morning run towards hangar lane on this particular road…?
I do hope this wasn’t all some kind of stupid stunt designed to pour scorn upon us truck drivers, bearing in mind our “group” tend to be rather Pro Boris and Pro Brexit right now…

You’re taking your conspiracy theories to the point of silliness. Calm down.
dieseldog999:
obviously not having a dashtop table, satnav, ornaments, teddy bears and a frilly pelmet made a great difference to this incident which shows how irrelevant it is having them up anyway.
fair play to postman winson for keeping his cool and being polite whilst not getting involved with the cameraman who should be facing charges for recording in portrait.
interestingly for me,then listen to the recording with your eyes closed and try and guess what country it is in.
Yep, don’t sound like England. What is it with these ■■■■■■■■■ and their affected gangsta accents?

Goodonya mate. It’s good to know that you were there in your helicopter watching everything that happened.
