I was being facetious; you would need a nebosh Diploma to decipher all that ■■■■■■■■.

I am currently being sued by a truck driver, who undone a ratchet strap, pulled the strap towards him, the hook got caught on the machine, he pulled harder and pulled the machine over on himself and got caught by the falling machine on the way down, and its all my fault for allowing him to do it, with a i will sue you for every penny i can get culture also comes a i must protect myself from idiots sueing me culture and the inevitable huge rise in insurance premiums,… totally true, i shall be looking forward to the comments !
Common sense would say not to pull hook over machine, but pull the tail back? Risk assement would have told him that surely, and covered you. The numpty prob wont of read it any way!
We`re all being treated the same besause of drivers like him, and claims culture. Good old fashioned common sense goes a long way in any job.
Richmond, I hope you dont get fleeced by this idiot.

When my Brother first left school, he worked for a local farmer who was known to be a good employer but quite careful, after 18 months or so it came to another harvest and they took on another lad, Pete was to show him the ropes and not put up with any nonsense.
“He is a bit thick Pete, but if he does owt wrang, just chuck a to’nup at his 'ead”
i took the family ice skating on thursday. me and the wife went for a coffee, and in there was a copper, a pcso, two people from the ice rink, and someone else. the conversation was “risk assesment this, risk assesment that, blah, blah, blah”
in the end i’d had enough and just had to say something.
“it’s a bloody ice rink, and it’s slippy. and i suppose you lot get paid for this”
it went very quiet after that.
So, who can I blame when I go over a bump and let my phone fall from being wedged between my shoulder and ear, into my cornflakes, spilling them all over page 3 ■■? should my employer have carried out a risk assessment for that ■■? i must point out that i would be wearing my seatbelt though…
Accidents happen when people rush and cut corners, i never rush, the job gets done when it gets done! Those who tear arse about mite get abit more work done in the short term but in time will slip up and in this game the results can be nasty.

No one. Its quite simple really. If you hadnt been wearing your seatbelt then you would have ridden the bump a bit bettter, therefore not knocking the phone out of its cradle.

You should be OK with cornflakes, could need a RA if it had been hot tea though, there could have been a chance of suffering a thermal injury.

Risk Assessment for throwing straps =Make sure your not going to hit anyone - Then throw
![]()
![]()
How complicated can that be■■?
BUT - can you be sure that you won’t hit someone in the near future?
From your comments you haven’t considered the wind direction/strength
Have you been trained in completing the aforementioned tasks?
Are you wearing the recommended clothing/safety equipment for handling straps and effecting their anti-gravitational manual manipulation?
Have you consulted the relevant charts regarding the angle/direction/strength of the initial trajectory?
Is there another suitably trained person on the other side of the trailer/truck to direct possible victims away from the target area?
Are you capable of completing the directed asks to the best of your ability without causing injury to innocent parties?
Complicated? I’ve only just begun … I feel a song coming on …

Dont forget the manual handling issues in the risk assessment, throwing is manual handling…
True - and there was me thinking it was simple

‘…Common sense … Good old fashioned common sense goes a long way …’.
Ok so you like the phrase - but what is this ‘…sense…’ that is apparently ‘… common…’?
Are you excluding newcomers or anyone under ninety, ie, anyone that wasn’t around in UK during the ‘…old fashioned…’ days when people were regularly crushed, maimed or decapitated, etc in everyday circumstances and when a Risk Assessment was when, ie, the Lord of the Manor decided whether to beat his footman or ■■■■ his housemaid first?
Maybe the same halcyon days when out-of-touch cliche users harked back to the need for a ‘stiff upper lip’?
Are you being bigoted to those who don’t think like you do?
Why do you think that ‘…common sense…’ is not mentioned anywhere in the Health & Safety at Work etc Act, (1974)?
Only five questions - but you started it.
Why? Because, similar the Health & safety at Work etc Act (1974), I dispute that ‘…common sense…’ actually exists and am simply ripping the pee out of flat-earther’s using old fashioned language - because there is no proof that the old fashioned myth of ‘…sense…’ being a ‘…common…’ commodity actually exists - or has ever actually existed.
Right, thats it, I am not going back to work until I have been risk assessed, CPC’d, had a medical, ordered all my PPE gear, been potty trained, got a new passport photo for whatever cards I may need to buy to do my job, and my mum has made sure my cap is straight… I’m sorry boss, but this load might be a bit late…

That’s fine, no problem, if you don’t feel safe until you have had potty training then you should be given potty training. Safety first remember. Could you just sign this piece of paper to verify that, need to keep it on record for donkey’s years just in case we have an audit by UPUCSME the UK potty usage and cap straightening management enforcement agency.
