Rigid and 7.5 tonner

Why is it that every rigid driver you speak to either

1, usually drives arctics.
2, let there licence expire cause they can’t be bothered anymore.
3, better money on rigids so don’t bother anymore.
4, just don’t want to drive arctics.

I just don’t get why every single driver you speak to says the same shiezer.

5, Hasn’t got their class 1 yet? :unamused:

But seriously if I’m in a 7.5t I make sure to tell them I’ve actually got my class 2. Not sure if they hear me in their gleaming 700hp skyscrapers though.

That is so true, and you get the driver of a rigid that can see about 12 artics in a queue to tip, but he does the sob story routine, and gets to the front of the queue with those immortal words of " I have only got one pallet to come off, and the wife has booked a table and will kill me if I don’t make it, and its the budgies funeral today ."
Tough ■■■ ■■■,join the frigging queue and wait your turn.

Mad cus bad bro. Its funny to see the faces of those artic drivers who’ve been sat there for ages while I nip in front because I’ve only got one pallet to come off.

Why would I want to bin a superior wage just to be a Billy Big Rig■■?

There seems to be a lot of thick drivers about that think cos they drive a bigger lorry thab me their wallet is bigger than mine…wrong on that Kiddo!!

Thats down to the gaffer running the place. I’ve been to places where they have tipped my one pallet in the middle of them tipping a fully loaded artic whilst at others I have to wait in line.

I don’t know if it’s connected but I was out in a rigid yesterday, same money as class 1 btw, and I enjoyed it immensely, apart from the fact that my todger felt smaller than normal. :open_mouth: I’m not saying it’s big normally, being hung like a hamster, but it was definitely not as proud as it would have been had I been in the usual actros. Is this normal?

I always que jump, in fact a lot of times the other drivers are happy for me to jump the que, seeing as I am normally delivering a couple of forklift trucks to speed up the loading/unloading process

Personally I’m a class 1 driver who often has to drive rigids because otherwise I wouldn’t be working. I’ve been able to let go of the van and 7.5T driving since passing my class 1 (there are one or two clients I’ll still do 7.5T work for). Right now I couldn’t imagine letting go of class 1 to just drive rigids, even though it’s less faff in some respects – easier to park, especially in certain service stations where some fool can block you in at the back (it’s happened three times in Warwick, for example). I did a brief stint driving tippers a few months ago and one of the drivers said his days of driving artics were long gone. So I’m guessing a lot of other ex-artic drivers have jacked it in. I hated tipper work – nearly all local and a lot of sitting in jams.

That said, class 2 work doesn’t usually pay more than class 1, unless it’s HIAB or otherwise specialised work (Moffett maybe). But most HIAB work is local delivery work, and means a lot more time spent out of the cab. I find it less enjoyable than class 1 which is mostly driving and involves longer distances and more out-of-town driving.

I’m not bothered what I drive at all as long as I’m getting paid. I drove our 7.5 tonner for 2 days last week and struggled with reversing  Wrong lock etc no excuse I should know but?? Anyway at 1 place goods in bloke asked if I was ok and I said I’d only passed test 2 weeks ago  result  tipped in 3 minutes and gone
