Ok I’ll and be as fair as I can. I’ve known a lot of drivers who’ve work for Richard Longs at one time or another, most have hated it, despite good kit and probably interesting work. The main problem seems to be the attitude of Longs themselves to drivers. I’ve only met one driver who seemd to like it he’d been there for 3 years and wasn’t really bothered with coming home, he wasn’t even parked up in Europe over Christmas. Like many others he said the main problem was the attitude of Longs and the office staff to drivers.
This applies to many operators large or small.

but I get the impression from the many drivers I’ve known work for them that they take it to another level.
I spent an afternoon in the traffic office of Edmonds of Watton once, that was an eye opener. The drivers still came back for more.
go for it mate. tell him you,ll take £150 of his best drivers wages and you,ll get a top line scania. remember it,s beter to sit in a nice truck with extrement wages than sit in some crap truck for a lot more.
i phoned them last year, told me they were looking so, went for an interview the next day, got there, met mrs long, filled the forms in, i have all the experience they were looking for, then she asked me what brought me there, i told her i was the guy she,d spoken to the day before and that she,d asked me to come for an interview, oh ok said she, anyway after half an hours interview the tpt manager took me around the yard and explained the job and whats expected so far so good , we went back to the office mrs long offered me a job with a start date and shook my hand and gave me a brew, all very nice, just as i was about to leave there was a raised voice in the tpt office, the guy who,d walked me round was really giving it to some poor sod on the other end of the phone, when he,d finished he slamed the phone down ,[zb] drivers, all [zb] [zb], told mrs l if the guy spoke to me that way id be on the way back to the yard as quick as, and not a happy man, i was told that maybe it was a bad idea to start if that was my attitude, good luck to anyone starting with them, youll need to be deaf and very thick skinned.
You get treated like a mug if you let yourself get treated that way, every where I have worked I will not take any ■■■■ at all if I am in the wrong I will take my bollocking like a man but if I have a genuine problem or I have done nothing wrong and they think they can speak to me like crap they get the same back or the phone gets put onto silent and sorted when I get back to the yard you can bet your years wages that they wont speak to you like that to your face.
My favourite type of boss is the one who tells you that you a ■■■■ if you have been a ■■■■ and just leaves you alone hen everything is okay you know where you stand then.

I worked there for over 12 mouths and did not have a problem with the office staff. If your and idiot they will treat you like one. i only left because i was offered a job near my home.
Phoned Long’s a few years ago for a job, spoke to Mr’s Long on the phone, I hung up on her, something I rarely do, an extremely rude woman, I dont work for people like that, one of those companies that NEVER stop advertisng like Dunwell in Caistor.
I know a bloke who was being interviewed for an office job a few years ago and mr.Long looked out of the window at the next applicant arriving and said " he won’t get the job, he’s a fat [zb] and I hate fat [zb].
I can verify everything thats been said regarding the wonderful ex farmers Mr&Mrs.
I had an interview there and was told that I have to change my punctures because “we won’t pay when you can do it”.,
Expect to be away for 2 weeks at any one time. They have the Claas contract at Bury St.Edmunds so plenty of combine harvesters,and you can spend Saturday afternoons getting the truck spanking!!

I agree…Get it sorted soon as. Forget it and move on. Been on the end of one of these recently.
I emailed them last week and was given 2 phone numbers my Mr Long to call. So I called one of the phone numbers and the bloke who answered didnt really seem arsed, and in the end said I didnt have enough experience, he said I needed 5-6 years. So I added that Mr Long knew I only had 2 years and that was fine? He said well thats the way it is and that was the end of that. The next day I called Mr Long himself and he answered the phone ‘yep’, which I thought was very rude surely? He too didnt seem to give a ■■■■. In the end he told me to text(?!) him and he would call me back. Very odd, but I did it anyway and low and behold he didnt call me back. I will probably give them one more chance, but if this is what they are like before you get a job, then wtf are they like when you have a job?
