Wing and a prayer:
Just to add i have tonight spoken on the phone to one of the lads in the yard who i made good friends with. i finished 2 weeks ago. and since then 5 others have walked. 1 dumped his truck in Belgium. others simply bought them back to the yard. put their stuff into their cars and went. 2 trucks sitting in the yard loaded with machines 1 for czech and 1 for Poland and no drivers. but no doubt they will get out of it somehow. PM does not have a HGV nor does Edward so either RL is on the road or a uk driver will be promoted against his will. or a new driver will be thrown in at the deep end. so much for training

I now wish I had not let my license lapse otherwise on reading the above post my bag would have been packed, my laptop, inverter, cooker, 24v kettle, microwave, freezer, pot noodles, teabags, water container, cuddly toy and a conveyor belt etc etc put in the car and I would drive the 533.3 miles at my own expense to help the poor man out. On arrival at the yard only to be told by Lorraine we dont allow drivers to cook in the cab 'cos the smell gets in the material ! That’s what she told me … but it’s OK to eat fish an chips :open_mouth:

Do you think he’d employ a woman driver??

So long as you don’t wear ‘jogging’ bottoms nor have a big bottom think you be ok. And pass Lady Lorraine’s attitude test by the sound of it, but why would you want to?

A job is a job at the end of the day, and the money seems pretty good. I listen to my fellow moany drivers most days and its the SSDD in most companies.

I’d like to work there. That Lorraine bird seems like she’s in need of something special.
We can start with baby oil and fish costumes, then move onto a little light spanking.
I’ll bring some special plastic covers for the bunk so Richard dosn’t find out.
Then again he might be into watching.

Yes joking aside they’re probably worth a try, certainly nothing ventured nothing gained. After all its horses for courses, so it may be best move you ever made, on the other hand… just regard it as a challenge. Good luck.

Hi ,
Great thread ,only just noticed it .I must be one of the few who actually enjoyed working for RL .Admittedly on a self employed basis ,I never had a problem regards money ,as I quoted him before each job ,also if the job did not suit me I was unavailable ,seemed to suit us both fine . As mentioned in earlier posts the tackle is good work is good ,if you run bent who’s to blame ,the driver has hold of the handlebars .
Cheers Popeye ! ! :sunglasses:

After leaving the claas side of the rl empire nine years ago, I’m still moving containers around in small circles on the port of Britain ( now there is a joke ), I was starting to get an annoying itch to have another go at moving combines around in slightly bigger circles, but after reading the whole of this thread, it has completely vanished so a big THANKYOU to all that have posted.
Also if I remember correctly, working for a living is not all that it is cracked up to be.

This is definitely one of the best threads on this forum.
People giving their opinions about a company they’ve worked for.
That’s how this forum should work.
Good companies that treat drivers right get positive feedback, bad companies get negative feedback for all interested in finding a new job to read.
Unfortunately there are way too many people on this forum scared of posting anything negative of their employers, and these cowboys operating out are not worried if his driver or few of them leave, they will get a fresh blood soon and will keep treating drivers as they’ve always been treating them.
I also wanted to thank every one who worked for RL for posting your opinions, you stopped me from applying there and wasting my time with this guy.
