Been going for years running top end kit I’m sure he is gutted he ain’t a trucknet hero.

Most of what is written in this thread is by people that don’t know Richard Long or his company.
Those that moan are probably the won’t do can’t do brigade.
It’s probably no wonder he gets wound up with drivers. From some of the comments on this and other topics anyone would get wound up.

Believe me he doesnt care what a few people on a internet chatroom are saying

I wonder if this Mr Richard Long knows or cares about this thread.

 He knows of it and his reply was along the lines of “And ?” He was a decent bloke when I was there and he is expanding still , I could have a seat back there if I wanted to but circumstances change and it wouldnt suit my life nowadays .
Claas wouldnt have him on the books if he was a problematic company as a couple of people on here make out .

I third it

Just a quickie for the training department at said company please advise drivers in UK that unless otherwise marked whilst approaching a roundabout please give way to traffic from the right already on said roundabout - not like your driver whom I assume didn’t notice me on the roundabout A11 / A134 yesterday afternoon at 1530hrs ish - moron!!!

Ahh that roundabout is an akward one. Quite often the coast is clear to pull out then just as you go out someone comes around. The problem is you cant see over the roundabout to see whats comin and when you are out you are commited. They need to flatten the roundabout and clear vegetation off it.

Did I not mention the fact I had a 15 ft 4 bright yellow trailer on?

(shouldn’t be difficult as it’s Norfolk)

It as been rumored that Mr Long’s wife is actually his sister…as its Norfolk!

I wouldn’t recommend it, I have several mates who’ve worked there and they all say he’s a nightmare! And it’s not hard to get a job there, he’s looking for drivers all the time, because no one wants to work there! Don’t do it to yourself, he’s an arse! he used to make them work late, really awkward about holiday, he even made one bloke work on the day he was supposed to get married… He had to cancel his wedding and she left him because he was always working etc etc, to be honest , if you’re single, don’t mind loads of hours and don’t mind being treated like ■■■■, he’s your man, other than that, I would recommend literally ANYWHERE else. he also made a bloke miss his daughter christening.

Cancel the wedding? You’re joking right? :open_mouth:

Every time I see an RL truck I think of this thread

The wedding and christening thing is bollox, don’t believe that for a minute… There’s plus’s and minus’s with all jobs, working for richard long could be a walk in the park depending on where you’ve come from and the whole polishing the truck when you get back, well some people actually like doing that.

Richard don’t expect you to polish the truck when you get back but he does expect that you keep it clean and tidy and why not? They are all his and all good gear so why would he want some pratt who couldn’t give a toss driving it, he’s paid for it not the numpty. As I’ve said many times before the jobs a good un once you leave the yard and put the planners arrogance down to their ignorance an you’ll do fine. Great way for a newbie to gain valuable European experience on a wide range of equipment but you would need to be capable of forward thinking and able to use your own initiative, sadly lacking these days I fear, listen to the good guys there and bite the bullet on the bolshy ones.

Richard Long knockers are the failed truckers in my eyes, ie. the ones only capable of pushing a supermarket cage up a trailer.

Would love to know where CJWHAUL got his information from, (wot a fuvkin joke, made the start of the day for me, )

Only one answer regarding wages in a 6 page thread, Yet several posters claiming to have worked there. :unamused:

Ok Here goes.

My first post having pointed to this forum by a former colleague.so hello all.

I have just left RL after 18 months of hell.

The one about the wedding is 70% true i can assure you and name the driver, he was actually best man at his Brothers wedding and made it home with 1 hour to spare and the whole wedding was a fiasco.

Roymundo. Mr tucker has gone after just short of 20 years service he put his notice in with RL and he didn’t bat an eyelid. only Edward is left and of course the Glorious all knowing all powerful Lorraine.

The job itself is great. i have been to countries i have never been before and i have been European driving for 25+ years. most of the trucks are getting very tired now. my 480 has just been sold. and replaced by a Merc darth vader ■■■■■■■ love child.

Lorraine never spoke to me for 8 months after we had a set to which resulted in me leaving my truck at the farm in Le Mans for those who know it. she soon backed down.

A replacement for Mr tucker was installed a man who in my eyes was brilliant. he treated us all with respect and made sure we got home when we needed to or wanted to. and was a ■■■■ good bloke. he lasted 6-8 weeks before walking. don’t believe any bullcrap that he was pushed i was there when he told myhill and RL what he thought after being told by Lorraine that
A. all drivers are idiots
B. never make friends with them as they will take the ■■■■
C. All drivers are thieves

The other problem that no one has mentioned is Simon and Paul

The bent running has all but stopped apart from as said above the drivers who would not get a job anywhere and RL always pays the fines. i would never run bent for them and that’s why my face never fitted and i was always overlooked. and that goes for the favoured few also.

As for the yard.

Those who have worked there in the past must have realised one thing but never noticed it.

Anyone is is anybody at RL has a tied cottage.

Edward/Paul/Ra etc etc. this means you have to work 6-7 days a week if RL says so.

Regarding Claas. don’t Believe they are untouchable on there. the person responsible his initials are JH if someone came along who could take the work away from RL would get it. the job advertised at Bury was got by a lady called Christine. she is good but has to do 20 other jobs as well as Claas. for instance administer all the uk deliveries. wide load permits and routes etc etc.and trust me some classic ■■■■ ups have been made.

Any new starters will not get on combines i can assure you. as in the eyes of RL you are either

Pick from this list

Taliban
A fat ■■■■■■■
A gobby ■■■■■■■
A Peanut (RL’s word of the year so far)
A a lazy ■■■■■■■
A liability
etc etc

The maintenance

Not bad. but if you blow a air bag or brake chamber anywhere 100 miles away from the yard you will be expected to crimp the pipe and drive to your destination and then load and return to the yard maybe a week later or so.

One of the reasons i decided to leave was this new tracker system that has been rolled out.

When you get the office calling you asking why you went this way when that way is 10km shorter and you explain that there is either a weight limit or a bridge etc cuts no ice. its a complete shambles.

! driver who lives in Belgium has just left after being Presented with a bill for going home with his truck. now bear in mind he lives 44 km off route has safe parking for the truck etc etc. has been billed for the diesel for going home. so he left the truck in a service area and yep you can guess what happened . funny he was allowed to take the truck home after that. but he has left now.

Lorraine is a pain.

A driver who lives in the south of France did not get home for 8 weeks. every time he was given a load to the town he lives in with jcb’s it was taken off him by RL. with the words i interviewed him and he knows the score he will go home when i say so. now Lorraine and the drivers file and at your interview it is clearly stated you will be home every other weekend unless you state you don’t need to be home.

Money

Its crap simple as. average take home is £1000-£1200 a fortnight. you never get your salary correct i can assure you. every Monday morning you send in your km start and finish for the previous week. your uk and European nights out and your weekend location. even with the correct info you have to Query every fortnight your salary.

In my eyes if RL spent less time with his Pa and more time looking at what is gong on he would get more respect. but when you load in say Harsswinkel and there is a driving ban and you get told directly by RL to run yet when he on the odd occasion at Christmas to get away from Lorraine. He loads then parks up is What actually happens. a case of do what i say not what i do.

If Anyone wants to know any more just ask away. im out of it now and doing a similar job with a far better company.

Sounds like all the above posts were correct. Why run a business like that

Its simple. its the Richard long way of doing things. my way or the Highway. simple. he controls the loads and drivers. every Saturday morning all the planners and Rl gather at the t card board. Rl allocates all the work. then Lorraine alters everything. they have a bust up. the planners and the drivers get the blame. that is how it works. they are Farmers with trucks. not a truck company with a farm.

Agree 100% with the comments about Lorraine, Edward was the one I asked if needing to know owt, I found Paul OK and Richard after he had a go at me and me telling him to stick his lorry up his arse while hopefully ripping his piles out with the smoke stack he actually APOLOGISED to me stating a stressful day so away over the water I went. I only applied for a job there because my son had worked out of Saxham for awhile, I was on leave from my ship and my daughter in law had said ‘‘you wont last there a week’’ I packed in to go back to sea a few months later but it was about 8 years ago now so things have gone downhill even more, but the job I enjoyed and the gear was then good and the wages were about the same as they are now, £950 to £1100 into my account every fortnight.
I speak as I find, but there was one planner there who I wouldn’t ■■■■ down his throat if his lungs had been on fire :imp:
The firm at Elmswell who does does similar work told me when I phoned them that normally they wouldn’t employ anyone who had previously worked for Richard, I explained why I wanted a change and they told me to come in and see them but I got a better job offer on a ship in the meantime so never took them up on it.

I think from that you are talking about mr T  Raymondo you have a pm.

Wing and a prayer:
they are Farmers with trucks. not a truck company with a farm.

There’s the problem. There’s only one thing worse than a farmer who thinks he’s a haulier.

And that’s an Irish farmer who thinks he’s a haulier.

Just to add i have tonight spoken on the phone to one of the lads in the yard who i made good friends with. i finished 2 weeks ago. and since then 5 others have walked. 1 dumped his truck in Belgium. others simply bought them back to the yard. put their stuff into their cars and went. 2 trucks sitting in the yard loaded with machines 1 for czech and 1 for Poland and no drivers. but no doubt they will get out of it somehow. PM does not have a HGV nor does Edward so either RL is on the road or a uk driver will be promoted against his will. or a new driver will be thrown in at the deep end. so much for training

Does this shambolic tale remind anyone of another farmer who liked lorries and lived in a neighbouring county?

Come on, it can’t be just me!
