I presume somebody was waiting to meet Mr Garland when he arrived at Bodmin, if it was loaded onto a low loader then I am a little puzzled as to why you think it may have suffered mechanical failure after having been driven for some considerable distance. Why would he drive it any distance at all, other than on to the low loader?

Given that it has been missing for nine days now I am also puzzled as to why you think you would have to wait another three days before reporting it as stolen.

To be perfectly frank, something does not add up here.

Yes. More details needed. He’s quoted piston broke above but not actually said anything in reply to it so it’s all rather confusing.

The lorry was driven to a pre-arranged layby on the A30 by the previous owner because it had been stored on a farm which was very difficult to access with a modern lorry. Mr Garland said that his driver must have missed that layby and said he would drive it to where the lowloader was. Unfortuneately because he had no cause to disbelieve him he let him take it and having to get back to work already being late because Garland was late turning up. As Ive said I suspect that Garland had somehow been let down by his driver and elected to try to drive a 50 year old vehicle at motorway speeds or that his intent was indeed to steal my lorry.

That rings alarm bells to me.

I tried to report it stolen Saturday last but was told by the police that, as I’ve already said, that intent had to be proved after writing to the company with recorded delivery a letter which asked about my lorry. This I have done and finally they, the police, have reported it as a crime so hopefully they might have more success than I in finding and hopefully recovering it.

I’d get that idea of your head right now. Just check out Rob’s (shuttlespanker) thread about his stolen DAF. Pigs aren’t interested at all unless either a) there’s some money in it for them by way of a fine or b) it’s looking after one of their own. As this case is neither then the help you will get from them is 0.

Thanks for your interest Robk but I have in my seventy plus years always found the police, and I’ve been the wrong side of the law on occassion, reasonable, helpful and fair so I don’t share your view of them. they are not perfect but take a look at other countries’ forces and tell me who has a better one.

That’s probably exactly what Murdoch’s lot would say too. :open_mouth:

That cab looks an odd shape.

Have you seen the V5 (log book?) is this vehicle described as a lorry or a bus?

artistjeffries:
If you don’t want to help Harry that’s fine with me but thanks for your interest anyway.

I am trying to help, we are all trying to help, but we could help more if you could explain how Mr Garland came to be at this remote lay by on the A30 in Cornwall without any visible means of transport.

Either way, I can help you in one matter. You describe the vehicle as a 1956 Albion. In fact it was first registered on the 13th September 1955 so it is a 1955 (or possibly 1954) Albion.

Well nothing to worry about then eh. Our fantastic police force will be knocking on your door any moment now to tell you that your vehicle has been found safe and well and the thief apprehended.

Read through this topic about 3 times and non of it makes sense. Seems to be half a story missing

Oh my God - words fail me miserably!! The naievety and sheer pig ignorance of some people is truly staggering!!! “LOKKING AT THAT ID TATHER”. . . . I ask you!!

Regardless of the intention/outcome of the initial thread as some have rightly alluded to, I find it unbelievable that some people are not aware that vintage/classic vehicles have a following and are preserved and shown the length and breadth of the country. Cranium splitting stuff. . .   :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Look on the bright side, in 30 years or so ady1 will be drooling over some restored XF, then he will understand.

On Wednesday 13th July 2011 a firm called Northern Connections picked up my 1956 Albion lorry just outside Bodmin, Cornwall to deliver to me at Cambridge. Since then my lorry has vanished into thin air and despite repeated e-mails and phone calls I am met with a resounding silence.
The director of Northern Connections, a Mr Tony Garland, personally collected the vehicle to load it onto one of his lorries but I suspect he drove it himself some considerable distance and has most likely damaged the engine and/or the gearbox in his ignorance of the limitations of such an old vehicle.
If any of you truckers out there saw a chassis/cab four wheeler on the A30, A38 or M5 on the 13th, 14th or knows of the whereabouts of my Albion could they give me a bell on 07884462140 or e-mail me at mike@transportartist.co.uk as I want my pride and joy back!
The lorry has a green cab, red chassis and wheels is about 20ft long and is very distinctive, please can anyone help?

If your information leads me to recovering my Albion I am offering a reward, not money I’m afraid because I don’t have much of that but an original painting of your favourite truck is all I can offer.

just had a look on internet and found this page not good mate

companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/n … ions-leeds

think as this has gone missing whilst in the companies care, the police should be involved and at least you should be given a crime number! lets hope you get some good news mate…

Yes. I have found the same company listed in the London Gazette -

NORTHERN CONNECTIONS LEEDS LTD 07114173

What feedback is there on Shiply?

Did you pay by Paypal?

So did you pay by paypal. I have read my small print and they say they will hand over any information over to the police if they need to do so. This will include bank accounts and branches who must hold some more details of the bloke.

strangely, when I googled the reg number I got

flickr.com/photos/ian_simpson/5572745044/

UHW343-01

Heaver bodied Albion Victor UHW 343 dating from 1955 is pictured in Lancaster in 1981 whilst in preservation in the livery of (I think) Guernsey Motors. By the early 1990s it had been acquired by travellers and converted into a mobile home and I’m not sure whether this vehicle still survives.

Harry Monk:
What kind of farm is inaccessible to a modern lorry?

Lots !!!

All farms are accessible by modern lorries, that is how the fertilisers arrive and the produce leaves!

or it gets dropped at the end of the lane

Thanks Denis, yes that WAS the same vehicle originally before it was wrecked in an accident at the rear.
It was then shortened and lovingly rebuilt as you see it now, which has taken 14 years to complete… and
I just bought it. Somewhere after Cornwall and after all that history it is now missing presumed stolen.

we go to Bodmin and Launceston regularly so we can keep a look out for, was in Bodmin on Monday and Lanson on Thursday but I don’t remember seeing it abandoned on the side of the road :frowning:

I too hope it turns up… it seems a bizarre vehicle to target as it must be instantly identifiable and although it is a thing of beauty I cannot imagine it having a great monetary value.
