For the last few months I have been driving regularly over the A 66 and have been watching the progress if the roadworks to strengthen the banking just before the old army camp.
This road as been a big part of my driving career and I would probably say it’s one of my favourite driving roads.
Watching the progress if the roadworks and then finished repair got me to thinking, isn’t it about time we have the old girl a break and let her retire.
She has been a faithfully servant for as long as I can remember and a long time before that. I believe this road should be given national heritage status or at least some kind of preservation order to protect her from what, if nothing is done about it could be a painful experience
What I propose is, that if you can take an alternative route please take it. Such has the m62 and A1 or straight down the A1. If coming from Scotland.
I know it’s a big ask, but if the road is going to survive especially as their are no plans for upgrading the road untill at least 2016.
We owe it to not just the road, but also all the residents that live along the route.
What route would you suggest for Glasgow to York then?
Its nice having abit of sc to break up the drive to scotland if coming from the south, but my prefered route going for a scotch run is a14 m1 a50 m6 m74.

m8 a1
You been on the funny ■■■■?
By the amount of reinforcement they have used to stop the road collapsing I think with all the heavy traffic it won’t be long before there is a major collapse of the road and they have to close it all together. What route will you take then?

Didnt come across as a joke to me, but then you didnt get the humour in my post… Anyway im not going to get into an internet ■■■■■ off. End.
A few calculations from someone whose not a “driver” obviously. Glasgow to York is 200 miles via the 66. Takes 4 hrs. Night trunk is comfortable in an 9 hrs drive and 12 hrs duty. Via the 69 it’s 235 miles and 5 hrs driving if you stick to 40 on the single. Being generous and saying 44t operating costs are a pound a mile and a mars bar, you’ve just cost the pallet network haulier an extra £350 a week. Oh wait, it’s more than that. The driver needs 2 breaks plus it’s a ten hour drive. It’s a push to do it in 15 now. That’s another minimum of £150 a week for wages. And what do you do, try and find 3 drivers happy to do 1-2 days a week each? Double man it? That’s an extra a£5-600 a week. Use agency to get a different driver every night? There’s too many people with your ideas in the planning departments up and down the country as it is. Don’t think this is a throw away argument. There’s plenty of night trunkers running this tight and the economy can’t afford an extra 500-1000 a week per vehicle that uses the A66

As I said earlier, what if the road collapses altogether, it is then closed for several months whilst repairs are carried out! What will all your pallet operators do then?
Maybe have to cut back on the mars bars
Road tax in window…check!
No weight limit on a66…check!

Tell you what go tell your gaffer you can’t use a66 cause you think it might collapse under the weight of your truck and see what he says to you.
Or go make up more silly little scenarios to post! End off.

It’s a road. A road. The important word here is “road”.
What on earth have you been smoking? Can you get me some? Are you like one of those weirdos that has ■■■ with cars or something? Does the asphalt do it for you? Are you a roadophile?

It ruins my day when the a66 is shut, as it often is with muppets crashing and snowflakes falling.
The m62 is an extra 45 minutes and the a69 is a ■■■■■ when heavy, unable to overtake the trolley dolleys.

So instead of us acting like we don’t give a ■■■■, why don’t we push the government for a solution.
The A66 was meant to have been upgraded to motorway status 5 year ago, but the dep’t for transport decided they had better things to spend the money on.
For many of us it is a great road that saves a lot of time. Trucks must be the biggest user of the road, do why are we not doing anything about it.
But as look I’m a big trucker says, tax check and so on ■■■■ everybody I’m going doin that road and ■■■■ the consequences.
How good would it feel to be driving along a brand new stretch of DC and think yeah I got this road built, it not only helps us truckers, it also benefits the many residents of the A66 who have to put up with the noisy trucks day and might
