ROG might

Muckaway:
Nope, crossing the whites apply to overtaking, otherwise how do people cross to get into their premises? The layby isn’t “double white” for it’s entirety. The other driver couldn’t reverse back as he was already in the road (I’d gone far forward in the layby to let others park behind me). Also I indicated to said driver to watch me out but got a shrug of the shoulders. In the end, a fellow Trucknet member watched me out who will agree the other driver was up close to my cab. I knew said member would be stopping in the same place hence why I stopped far forward until the layby started to narrow.

So you crossed double white lines, parked facing on coming traffic and pulled so far forward so someone could park behind you…

How are they going to do that

do you expect them to pull past you on the road with double white lines and reverse in behind. :bulb:

Saying that, if anyone did want to, some kind soul has kindly compiled TSRGD and TSM into a handy wee quick reference web app. There’s even a mobile version, for when you just NEED to know what that sign you just passed means

Same as me, not difficult.

I’m pretty sure that if I hadn’t stopped there but carried on and got an infringement, the same people would be saying I should’ve stopped there or stopped earlier.

If you are close to your time and can’t stop at loading or tipping points and your work is all on back roads, you have to stop where you can and where it’s practical.
I can’t see what Muckaway did wrong.
Just stop on the side of the road when your four and a half hours are up.
Let them all moan and get the Highway Code out then.

Much too simple…

I think you’re missing the point. In any other case people wouldn’t have a problem with you parking there. It’s the fact you felt the need to take and post a pic of a driver who’s done no wrong and call him names, and you’re surprised people pulled you to bits. Best put it down to experience and stop

I can, he called a fellow driver a ■■■■■■ for parking in a layby. He got what was coming to him

I sure as hell wouldn’t pull upto anyones’ windscreen regardless of which side of the road they’re on. There’s been loads of posts on here about people stopping in the middle of an empty layby and preventing others from parking. I park right at the end, leaving plenty of room for others to park whichever direction they want, then someone tries to squeeze into the narrowing part leaving their arse sticking out into traffic.
Anyway a fellow Tnet member had the sense not to park right up close to me so I could reverse back and get out (while he watched all was clear).
Shall we park there tomorrow, Steve?

I don’t restrict it to fellow lorry drivers, I called the old git who anchored up infront of me for no reason earlier a ■■■■■■ too. Actually they were classified if I recall “■■■■■■■ coffin dodging ■■■■■■.”

That’s because you’re Steve, Muckaway’s lover. :unamused:

Will you get in behind Nathan in the layby tomorrow Steve?

Just because we have matching Scania tippers.

Maybe the other driver was in the same predicament and had to pull up in that layby and you had made it incredibly difficult for him

If another TNUK member then arrived and had to back into the said layby it sounds like the meeting was something pre-arranged so I doubt you were right on 4.29 hrs driving time and risking an infringement :open_mouth: I’m not really interested in the why’s & wherefore’s of crossing the double white’s twice, I feel more aggrieved at you being unable to see that you are in the wrong :unamused: and coming on here calling him a ■■■■■■ :imp:

You say you indicated to the other driver to watch you out but he just shrugged his shoulders  Maybe he didn’t understand what you meant  That’s when you should have got out of your cab and explained why you needed his help.

Doubt you would have been posting this on here if you had done as I have said because these are situations a lot of us have been in, for whatever reason, more than once in our driving careers and have learned the best way of dealing with it.

It always makes me laugh when the new generation of driver says they are always prepared to listen and learn from old hands  I have only met a few newbies who have asked and thanked me for giving them the benefit of my 44yrs experience which I have given freely and without prejudice as we all had to start somewhere and pick things up along the way. An older guy taught me all the in’s & out’s of sheeting and roping different loads also how to use chains & dogs.
and I’m eternally grateful to Colin Dewhurst RIP.

Think you need to scrutinise your own actions a bit more thoroughly before making abusive remarks about other members of the driving community, as this thread has highlighted in the majority of responses.

Regards
Dave Penn;

I did learn my job from old hands, Dave; I was around tippers before I’d started school. Not really a pre arranged meeting, the other Tnet member has just started working where I am, as a result of me responding to a thread he posted. He was also on the same run as me and from the same depot so we were both short on time (and noticed the layby in question as we’d passed it earlier-too early to stop).

Didn’t you start a thread not long ago entitled “Driver at the door”?

You know the type…

Personally, I prefer to have my breaks away from over-friendly colleagues.

What happened to you Muckaway? Tasseled pelmet and socialising in laybys? You’ve changed man.

Decent, easy well paid job mate.
:grimacing:

Me too… but it hasn’t altered my ■■■■■■ orientation.
