Resume or not

Today’s Dcpc…

Highlighted a difference of opinion relating to cruise control. Half the drivers there have been previously instructed to use the cruise control to accelerate up to the speed you want (also using the resume function to achieve the same result) and the other half having been told to use the accelerator to get up to the required speed. The subject was raised as part of the discussion on microlise technology.

Who is right?

Well here’s my tuppence worth.
I’m new to auto gear box (November 18) and I’ve found (in my short period of auto) that using the resume button to pick up the speed is very slow compared to using the fast pedal, so in my opinion, it’s best to use the fast pedal to get up to speed before using the auto pilot.

I always forget to use resume and drive up to 56 and set it again

Microlise does like use of the resume button as long as it is a soft resume. A hard resume would negatively affect your cruise control usage or rather fuel consumption.

Or at least that’s what our DDA says.

Whatever you feel like doing tbh.

And if they question you about it in the office tell them to do one.

I’ve found that using resume gives me lower microlise score on acceleration so I always build up speed and reset cruise.

We were told the same. Our 18 plates have ‘soft’ resume where you can press it and it will slowly get back to cruise speed. Older ones will accelerate much faster - you can see the difference in instant mpg - these are the ones we’ve been told only to press resume when within 5mph of the cruising speed. The crazy bit is that on the older ones, if you accelerate slightly too fast an ‘over-driving’ message will appear and Microlise penalises you, but pressing resume, the acceleration is just as fast but no ‘over-driving’ message. I understand our lot are having the ‘over-drive’ warning removed because of this.

I’m glad I’m retired.

My boss is more concerned with the load getting there than if I use cruise control.

I only use it if I’m sitting off the limiter, rest of the time I’ve got my foot on the pedal.

Isn’t it just…

I dont use telematics or what ever it’s called. Thank the Lord.

But doesn’t using aircon increase your fuel use? . And if so doesn’t that show up on.your score sheet?

I rarely use cruise control anyway. I like to be in tune with the road ahead

Its not just about fuel use though.

No, the next thing will be wiper blade wear. :open_mouth:

My last firm had some fancy Tom Tom sat navs put in.

Harsh steering when you’re going in a straight line because of a pot hole, too long idling, not staying in the green, yadder, yadder. etc etc.

Luckily at the time of my departure nobody was monitoring this nonsense - being a major utility provider they weren’t interested in fuel consumption when 70 postcodes had no juice - it was get the kit there as soon as.

But I can see a time coming (if it’s not here already) where the nav is connected to the road speed, so basically it will be impossible to exceed the posted limit unless going downhill.

I don’t use anything like that.
But I thought they were there to save money get more mpg .lower the fuel bill?
If not what are they for then

Cruise control + heart attack = much danger
