RESTORATIONS

OH dear hit a raw nerve here havent we if you dont want people to comment good or bad the thread will just die,
or just say how wonderful things are wow thats even worse, but each to their own.

Brian - you didn’t hit a nerve; far from it.

I was merely making the point that picking holes in restorations for the sake of mirrors or original paint jobs & liveries is futile and smacks to me of posting for the sake of stirring controversy. I didn’t start this thread, let’s not forget that.

The wagons that have had money spent on them are a tribute to their owners - whatever way they wish to present them. I know of a certain ‘afficienado’ who constantly criticised a well-known restorer and collector for the way his wagons were restored. Eventually the restorer got so sick of it that he threw the keys for all of his collection to a third party and told him to sell them.

Another well-regarded archivist actually went into print with very similar criticisms in one of the classic comics and created a maelstrom of protest letters. This subject is a hornets nest and always (in whatever format) sparks controversy.

As I said previously - it’s a load of garbage. Leave people alone to restore wagons the way they want. If they didn’t do it, you wouldn’t be looking at pictures of them because they wouldn’t still be around.

Only that the driver goes too fast!

:grimacing:

OK here’s a daft question…

People who buy below Euro 3 stuff to run locally (i.e Do not want to go into London) can buy cheaper trucks.

Would a nicely restored 110/140/141 etc still be up to it today■■?

I’d love to see one used properly still.

The LB cab looks like it may have a decent sized bed in it?

Maybe with a 113/143 engine and a decent night heater etc it could still be a daily driver?

Now this might upset purists as per the tittle tattle above, but i’m of the opinion that if it kept a classic truck out there and working, its a ll good!

Who cares if it aint 100% origional?

The thing is, if you put the crash bar on upside down it interferes with the dip beam of the
headlights, only on the small grill models as the larger grill has different bumper mounts.
It did with the one we tried any way.

Hi gaz

the LB cabs had a good bottom bunk in them, the f88/89 were not as big a cab but a lot of guys liked them, their is still a couple running about in the uk but not sure who has them, maybe some of the guys might have a bit more info.

Nowt wrong with that wagon - it was, is and always will be a cracking restoration.

Top marks to Gary for the sheer amount of work that went into it (as well as Teacake’s wizardry with the cab - where have we heard that before?)
