but how many folks have jobs where there paid to sleep, stroll round the local town doing there bills, shopping, lie out on grass banks sun bathing for hour after hour,go for a jog,go to the local gym,i do all of those and im paid for it,brother only does 37.5 hrs a week,he works them,if he moves off the m/c they want to know why,he has to pay his bills in his own time,he has to go to the gym in his own time etc, etc.
as i say i know vwery few jobs where your paid to sleep
I hear you ady. Just this afternoon I got paid 5 hours while I ate a free three course meal, watched a couple of TV shows on my laptop, had a nap in a comfortable bed and then made use of the en-suite facilities to have a shower and a shave. Happy days.
As an added bonus Jimboy124 and myself got chatting to a young lady from Coventry who supports the same football team as me and who was happy to show us photographs of her intimate piercings.

It wont be to long before companys only pay when the wheels are turning !
when stobarts took over 3 years ago we were told all the waiting around was going to stop,
3 yrs on nothings changed,if they didnt want you to spend half your day in the bunk theyd do something about it,they havent so i guess either they cant or arnt bothered.
the waiting to be tipped at tesco was meant to be stopped, youd go in drop tri, pick up tesco tri,go out tip it and come back and get your tri, they couldnt understand why when you normally got back at 2 a.m, you wernt getting back to 6 a.m[jouney with tesco tri, time to tip it,time back to rdc to get your tri] ,were now back to crashing out on seats again .
ive no doubt one day theyll catch up with us[change things],but until then let the good times roll
IMO you should only be able to reduce to 9 hours if you are on a night out. I live 30 mins from the yard, so thats an hour gone from the 9 hour rest, time youv’e had something to eat, shower etc you’ll be lucky to get 6 hours kip. Its ok if you have a job where you can get some kip, but thats not guaranteed.
I have always quoted the regulations…they say a driver must have 11 hrs off…end of story…if the planner starts going into the But…But…routine…just repeat the first line of the regulations…A driver must have etc…etc.
Same with the weekly rest…a driver must have 45 hrs off every week…ok some drivers have to work a sat or sun every other week…thats fine…but i always tell them on my last card…whatever time i finish tonight…is the time i start on monday…however none of this affect me now because i am semi retired…but a driver must stand up for himself…we should all stand together…a company may make it difficult…but they cannot sack you for obeying the law…if they do …say …see you in court…or the tribunal…
I am expecting to be called to task over my new contract…which requires me to work Mon-Wed-Fri…so far i have only managed 2 days a week…i worked this week Mon & Wed…wont be in on Fri cos im going to Paris for a dirty weekend  ..when i come back..its nearly easter..and seeing bank holidays pay the same as a normal day..im not working them…so that leaves easter out…i am employed and paid as a casual driver…so i asume i can please myself when i work…although i am in a contract and over retirement age ( and at an age where they cannot sack me for being over 65 ) they can sack me for misconduct i suppose…or for not obeying my contract…we will wait and see…

.
but that’s mis-quoting the regulations
GV262 says
Daily rest periods
A driver must take a daily rest period within each period of 24 hours after the end of the previous daily or weekly rest period. An 11-hour (or more) daily rest is called a regular daily rest period.
If that’s the hours you want to work ,that’s fine but why try to tell those of us who want different hours what we should do ?

mean is the extra 40 hrs p.w pay i get now will be going in some agency bods pocket, stuff that,im quite happy to do 80 hrs a week_[a fair bit,in actual fact a lot is in the bunk, not working anyway]._
if folks want to do 40 hrs p.w fair enough, but the same goes if your happy do 80 hrs you should be left to do what you want
thats alright for you but many drivers aren’t that lucky.

Conor:
Because they’re not however plenty of drivers will fiddle PoA so they can continue to do 84hr weeks and plenty of employers are both ignorant and/or don’t care about the 48hr average and SIXTY HOUR WEEKLY LIMIT. Combine that with drivers who would like the protection of the WTD but are TOO STUPID to open their gobs and the whole thing is completely unworkable.
Conor, you keep banging on about the Road Transport Directive and drivers who are fiddling it, there is no need to fiddle it, it is fairly simple. At the gatehouse you sign in and the bloke says park over there drive, there are three in front of you, even if you have never been before, it should take you less than 5 minutes to find out how fast they tip each vehicle.
POA was invented by the unions and transport bosses and the only thing stupid is the drivers who do POA for free.
If you normally have to wait 1 hour before you get tipped, you will know at 59 minutes if that is going to happen, so a word in someones shelllike will tell you that the delay is another 3 hours, All POA, not other work, not driving.
