Replaced by a fucking Lithuanian

Had a nice little job shunting for the past few weeks at one of the big supermarkets smaller depots. Pay was pretty good at £36.5k and thought I had the job for as long as I wanted.
Was having a week off at Christmas and found out that agency couldn’t be arsed to find replacement for me so company went to another agency and got a Lithuanian whose previous experience of trucks was when he took his test in his home country. He told me that agency were paying him £7.50 per hour. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
Was supposed to start back this week but got a text from agency that the job was finished as it was cheaper to keep him on rather than me.
I’ve now had it with agencies, from now on limp is going to get better,  and I’m now unemployed til I sober up in new year and I’ve got an even better reason to vote no in the forthcoming referendum now.

Happy new year everyone

■■■■ it up buttercup.

As an agency driver, you’re part of the problem.

Happy New Year.

Best of luck with the search for a full time job.

They’ll more than likely be getting £7.50’s worth of driver, so that’ll be another successful cost saving exercise well done Carruthers, you’d think they would have learned by now they’ve been doing this and similar cost/wage cutting moves for years and all it does is cost more in damage and lost production time and time again…hope this one bites 'em in the arse too like it usually does.

Paying him £7.50 an hour, and creaming off their usual bit…, plus the remainder of what they were originally paying you, don’t you just love agencies :smiling_imp:

Don’t blame the Lithuanian guy mate, he’s only a pawn in their game, it’s the ■■■■ bag agency you should have the problem with, ■■■■ ing parasites the lot of em. :smiling_imp:

btw. The Monkey is on a roll tonight, you’ll get NO sympathy there

Sorry to hear that Wing-Nut, hope your limp heals up nicely!

Oh come on Robroy, they are just doing their job!
It’s like whenever you speak to one you’re currently not working for, the first thing they want to know is where you’re currently working.
Instead of telling them to have ■■■■■■■■■■■ with themselves, I just say it’s between me and my current employer & I’d pay them the same respect. But it does ■■■■ me off that they even ask… :smiling_imp:

I’ll be looking to walk properly at some point this year, I’ll master those high heels if it kills me!

Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately it seems to be the way of the world at the moment. I’m sure it won’t be much longer before I have to sell up and get out, cabotage restrictions are the only thing protecting me at the moment, but once they are swept away then my job will be done by an eastern European for half the price.

What bugs me about this whole “long term agency placement” is: If the job is there, why doesn’t the company employ you direct?
Aren’t there were rules where they have to offer you a job if you were on placement over a certain amount of time?

There are lots of driving jobs out there now, including permanent roles, so don’t worry about things.

Proper companies will pay a going rate, as in their interests to retain staff.

Yep, especially as it costs them nearly twice as much as a regular employee :unamused:

Agency is not charging customer less than 15ph in this case so probably customer is saving compare to you only maybe 1 - 2 ph. so problem is Agency system not Lithuanian.

Whoever sits in agency - either he is British, ■■■■, Iraqi, Somali or Lithuanian is the one who takes the money out of your pocket and not putting it in Lithuanians pocket but his…

Because employees have rights. Agency arses on seats don’t.

If they want to get rid of you in favour of a Lithuanian arse who’ll do the same job for minimum wage, they can.

No sympathy. Get a proper job. Don’t encourage the problem by being an agency arse.

Where I work, there’s no foreigners, gingers or agency arses. Unwritten company policy.

I’m lucky, I know. It should be the norm though, not the exception.

<<EDIT, rant not aimed at you Caveman, unless you’re an agency arse. Rant aimed at the agency arse OP.>>

Agencies = parasites sucking blood

Never worked for an agency and never will
After getting my licence through the door, phoned around various transport companies until I got a job.
There are plenty of companies willing to give a newbe a start, let alone experienced driver.
Getting a job job through an agency you just feed the system.
The sooner they go out of business the better for us, drivers.
Don’t blame the Lithuanian driver, he took what was offered to him at the time, it’s the agency that’s skimming the cream

Yeahhhh, its not the agency and its greedy British boss fault, but the EE migrant.
I feel sorry for the author but the title is wrong, you have been replaced because of human greed(British, Lithuanian doesn’t matter) regardless of safety record, experience, language knowledge etc.

No, he’s been replaced by someone who eats river fish for dinner and shares a broom cupboard with two other people, willing to work for a pittance.
If they want to work for nothing or thereabouts, I suggest they wash cars in a boarded up service station.

So if you were in a poorer country, struggling to find work, yet able to LEGALLY go to another and work, you’d stay at home and starve?
Of course you wouldn’t, you would go to that country and do the best you could.
Don’t blame the people, blame the system and politicians…

Just another example of the race to to bottom and the surge of the agency scum!

Spot on. Plenty of UK drivers have gone to the US or Canada. Exactly the same.

The problem isn’t agencies, it’s the companies that exploit the agency drivers. If the job is there that necessitates a permanent agency presence, the driver should be taken on permanent (if they wish). As you said above, agency = employee without rights.

If you’ve been on holiday since this driver was taken on, how come you’ve been able to talk to him for long enough to know about his previous experience and rate of pay?

Well I don’t help make the situation worse by having my car washed by these people. Anyway they’re not poor and starving. Two words used far too often. Look at this country where someone in poverty tends to be someone who has to pawn their Ipad or unable to fund a Sky subscription.
