As for whether the rake can be adjusted I doubt it, if the rake adjustment is different in newer models it’s likely a different steering rack and rake and reach setup I would guess.

No?..I’m hurt.
Talking to somebody last night who reckons you can but we’ll see, it wont be end of the world…it just means I have to endure a ■■■■ Actros a bit longer.
the nodding donkey:
I drove a 13 plate for a mo th, waiting for a new XF when I was on with Saville’s, its a comfortable ride, I think the bed was OK too. The dashboard has been designed by a 5 year old after a sugar binge… all silly corners, sticky out air vents, and zilch cubby holes or usefull flat table surface.
Oh, and that engine hump…
Back in the 90’s I drove an L reg Magnum the cab with the offset steps and the dash was pure Renault 5 with a tacho head jammed in.
The only other Renault I occasionally drove was a four wheeler but with a sleeper cab - to be honest it was a nice old thing, I remember it being quiet and comfortable, shame the synchromesh on the eight speed had mostly retired
Talking of Craptroses, my lot are going through a "replacing knackered units soon"phase, as one of our hire trucks was recently found to be “cost expired”… an old company ownedAM was brought down as a temp, and a Merc Craptros showed up oneornong, apparently as a (temporary) replacement… … .
My reaction on seeing this abomination in our yard was as short, as it was succinct. If that’s the new truck, I’ll be looking for a new job.
Finally binned off the Curse of The Actros…after 10 years.
Got a Renault to drive starting this week, a second hand one, but a decent one.
It still has the dodgy rake steering wheel, but it’s the big cab flat floor one , so I’ll suffer it to I get used…, so back to being a ‘Proper Trucker’ again.
Need to get used to the different tech on the dash board,.as it ain’t my comfort zone but got my Renault driver mate on speed dial who will be sick to death of me for next week or so. .
Storage believe it or not ain’t as good as Merc imo,.cant believe ny small microwave won’t fit in top locker .
(Can you still buy those special truck microwave fitting brackets? I had a quick look but can’t find any.)
Love the fridge, love the top bunk, dab radio, .and I now have the luxury of an actual suspension for those back country roads down to farms.
Couple more negatives,.suspension does not lift as high as the Merc,.so expecting in a yard full of Mercs, to be doing a few manual wind downs to get right height.
Also you can not see edges of trailer in mirror, when hooking up, so that combined with suspension height is a potential over riding the pin situation…so need to be on the ball.
Oh yeah and the cup holder situation, not that I drink coffee while driving…perish the thought .
Star down under.:
Twenty years ago, the first thing I checked on a new truck was, how big is the engine. These days, it’s how big is the bed.
Yep same here…, but in those days we were mostly all driving a lot lower powered trucks, you were one of the lucky ones if you had summet with a bit of beef.
My priorities these days are easy life and comfort, I dont race about so engine size ain’t my concern any more.
It’s irrelevant that the vehicle can drive through minus 25 degree ice storms, plus 44 degree heat waves, be economical in heavy traffic, has a flat screen telly and has low maintenance requirements.
It’s gotta be able to hold your Costa/Red Bull/G&T/San Pellegrino reliably over a roundabout whilst your texting someone.
When the Renault T first came out I asked the Renault Fr factory guy who was at Peterboro Truckfest why ,when they went to the trouble of fitting a radio with a CD player, they didn’t build a space into the dash to store CDs. His reply was uuhh, uuhh, uuhh don’t know, never thought about. I suggested it was about time his design team spent some time driving trucks instead of playing with computers!
First day on it today…Loving it.
Smooth ride, comfortable drive, I’ve got most of the stuff on the dash read out sussed in one day (I ain’t as thick as I thought I was after all ) Getting used to steering wheel angle, no more 1980s ERF type suspension issues like the Actros, no more coffee down the dash, a proper truck and a ‘full poser’ motor worthy of my looks and status.
Yeah happy with it.
