Hey, right when i was down the yard yesterday managed grab some pics from the wall. most are old and in not great condition, but these are from good few years back, loads more but couldnt grab them all. it was strange looking at them as i was kid when these motors about, great days and great memories going away instead of removals doing the bed runs. but hope you enjoy, posted couple modern one’s of today at the bottom.

My Grandfather on the left,me dad wasnt in the pic because “he was too busy working”

I bet its a nice break from removals :stuck_out_tongue: , did you take them all over europe or just trunk to a certain place?

beds was mainly uk. didnt do as much europe when i was a kid, oldman is constantly across water, europe much better…well i think.

evening folks, just on the hunt for any pics of a bedford tk with a sleeper conversion, the one i’m thinking of came out each side of the cab but did not extend back,a bit like two boxes bolted to the sides, any pics or info will be great.

Hows this for an old un…

Yet another lovely old Marsden.

This is from a Marsden brochure. Not sure on the year, but hope its of interest.

i like the marsden ones i have tha same thing at home only for ther spin off and later same company vanplan

I remember them from the 80`s, I think they used to specialise in removals to Portugal.

Some did Spain (Darvells??), some did Greece (Euro something or other from Wembley and DAP`s in Erith)

Luker Brothers did and may still do Swiss as their main area of expertise.

La Janquera October / November 1981.

This was the same set up, UTB 779S, vanplan body, bedford engine, 5 speed box, twin bunks, no night heater but it DID have power steering!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I seemed to go to Paris alot!! :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:…a lovely city but no houses, everything went up the stairs unless the concierge would let you use the 1-2 person lift. Then of course you have to deal with the Parisiens themselves!!!

Good times and good laughs and a great way to see Europe but bloody hard work. Couldnt do it now.

Hiya bullitt. I did a spell on removals many years ago, and although hard work, had some great times on it. We didn’t have the luxury of sleeper-cabs, so usually ended up
bedding-down in the back. That wasn’t too bad in the summer - we’d leave the shutter open for some air - but it was ■■■■ cold in the winter. Mind, we were tougher back then! (or too tight to spend our money on digs). We always envied those with Marsdens with their built-in sleepers.
I’ve noticed, particularly in Paris and Brussels, that many of the local removal companies use their own mobile lifts, usually mounted on the back of pick-up trucks or 3.5t chassis, such as Iveco Daily/Peugeot, etc.

This was the pride of our removal fleet. Oh how we longed for a Marsden!

When i first started it was the same, either across the seats or in the back. As you say, sleeping in the back was ok in the warmer months but not very comfortable in the winter months, especially in northern Europe!!

Dont know about being tougher, I would put it down to being younger so I didnt really think about it!!

With reference to the mobile lift platforms, I have seen them in various European cities Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam etc, easier than ■■■■■■■ it all up the stairs!!!

Another old one from Marsden, this time a traditional pantechnicon.
Looks like its on a FIAT chassis.

Thats the sort of thing bullitt, although I recall doing an office removal at the old British Sugar offices in Peterborough where we used a hired Ford D-Series with a platform scissor-lift fitted to it. IIRC, it had a platform of approx 12ftX7ft and went to a height of 30-40ft. Of course, on standard house removals, it was not
uncommon to take bedroom windows out and pull wardrobes up ladders. I particularly remember the look of fear on the customers faces.
