Numbermill aside, I worked for Milestone Aug-Nov last year for JLR out of Normanton. The work was easy, 1-4 pick ups then trunking to Hams Hall Coleshill, which could get crowded. I think the drivers based there have a much worse workload by the moaning they did in the transport office. Most of it is picking up car parts and taking back to Hams, though there is also delivering to the Landrover factory up at Halewood up near Liverpool. The money was good for the work, though there was no overtime rate, that hourly rate is all you get whether working 8 or 14 hours.

And then what happened?
I worked for Royal Mail for the xmas period. Now working at a biscuit firm, best job Ive had yet. All trailer swaps or 1 RDC delivery a day, nice hours, new kit, easy going TM who leaves you to it! I did actually try to get back in at JLR after RM finished, but they had filled my spot and said sorry you left!
The saga continues … Milestone / Numbermill are now wanting details of whatever “alternative” accountant I`m using, to satisfy their compliance procedures.
They sent me the following email
Dear Colleague,
Milestone are verifying that our colleagues who use limited companies are compliant with recent legislative changes. Please open, read and sign the attached compliance checklist for your limited company.
Thank You,
Justyna Przybysz
Compliance Officer
Milestone Operations Ltd
the email has a link to a “Docusign” webpage that asks for various info, inc:
Name of limited Co
Companies house reg No
Name on the business bank account
Who is the company director
confirmation that you have business insurance
confirmation that you use a professional accountant (inc accountants registration No)
Name of the accountant
Confirmation that you do not opperate an “offshore” company for tax evasion
confirmation that you are aware of the IR35 regulations
I guess this email will get put into the ignore folder for later ignorance, unless the local office sends me a paper copy complete with an SAE

that’s why Nova will only sign you up as ltd company with vat from the start (they were investigated last year and changed all their stuff).
for the life of me why don’t drivers just get an accountant and set up on their own.
my issue is still too many tin pot town agencies run around the country saying we can supply for £x which in turn means they force and I mean force drivers into ltd/umbrella so they can make it pay, these to me are the agencies drivers need to boycott they will within weeks lose contracts and go bump, or at the very least give the choice of PAYE too.
I posted a link a few months ago regarding what HMRC were looking into etc whilst it was long winded it was very interesting and shows why people need to be aware.
I’ve been with Milestone for a couple of years now ever since they launched a successful hostile takeover of the previous agency (Highway), and tbf I’ve found them (or rather their rep on our site) to be very easy to work with and very accomodating. However, and it’s a big however, they have a provisional arm of their organisation known as Numbermill who I would strongly advise everybody to steer well clear of.
Basically a couple of Milestones directors realised that drivers were paying a grand a year to accountants and decided that they wanted a slice of that pie and formed Numbermill, they then aggresively pursued drivers telling them they MUST sign with them or no longer work for Milestone. They got knocked back by the drivers last year and have just been knocked back again when a large number of our drivers threatened to quit over their tactics. This time though they had persuaded (brown envelopes maybe?) a high up at Nobbie towers that it was in their interests for all their agency workers to go through them.
They are charlatans and crooks and if I ever encounter one of them face to face I shall treat him as I would treat a man in a pub who was trying to steal money out of my pocket
When I got wind of their latest scam I launched a preemptive strike and as of Monday I am PAYE for Milestone. I’m quite happy to cut my nose off to spite my face and accept that I’ll be worse off financially, but the main thing is that so will they!
take it that’s the Easton contract then?
and good on you for standing up to them whilst I know everyone is pressured into making money (after all its a major part of business), I still say ethically you need to give people a choice.
for example why should a part time guy be forced ltd they wont be better off.
I’d go PAYE and get a decent independent accountant.
At the moment I’m PAYE but once the lads are driving LGVs we’ll be putting everything through the contracting business which will gain £1.50/hr also corporation tax is 20%(21% over £300k) rather than the 40% I could be looking at next year . I’m paying an accountant 2-3k a year to do the VAT, annual accounts & tax returns anyway and as long as he saves us more than he costs all is well

Yes mate that’s the one. I’m not 100% sure but I have heard that Milestone are the main provider for all of Norberts UK agency driver needs. I stand to be corrected though.
…
thought it was like dhl to be fair several big boys on the list?
regarding accountants try box accounts he is an old friend who is a good accountant and competitive on prices. I only know as he has done accounts for me and would recommend.
Glad I found this post lads.
I am signing up at Milestone Andover but only looking to do 6 days max per month due to other commitments.
How shoukd I choose to be paid? Ltd is not an option, don’t know if they do PAYE, but their website says Numbermill.
Not sure what I should do
Speak to the Andover office ASAP and clarify which pay structure your on, and if possible specify you want PAYE
