So, this is the one. Going in to milestone at coleshill tomoz, for Friday,Saturday and Sunday contract at jlr. They say 12.50 an hour Friday, 23.04 an hour after 12.00 Saturday and all hours Sunday. 12 month contract LTD drivers. If this is genuine, I’ll have some. Am I optimistic or completely off my mind ? Will post after I been
£12.50 an hour for normal hours is within 50p of what Prestige in Hull pay their Ltd drivers so its certainly not beyond belief.
I’d take the 12 months with a pinch of salt though and just be prepared to take it as it comes.
Do not go through their chosen umbrella co. Numbermill.
Biggest con ever!
one of the worst out there if you ask me but best of luck.
I was with Milestone, Dartford during Dec/Jan working at Sainsbury’s and only left them to join ADR Network at Lidl, Northfleet.
They appear to be one of the better agencies and gave me plenty of work although it was at rather short notice.
Money was a mystery as you would have thought 10 x £12.50 would be £125, but no it would be a bit less or more so you couldn’t work pay out exactly.
Got paid through Numbermill’s umbrella which has been said to be a con but can’t figure out why.
Overall I was reasonably happy with their service during the short time I was with them.

Yep,I was with them 2 months until I binned them on Monday. I asked what would happen to my holiday pay they’ve been taking off me and was told they haven’t been taking it ■■? It says holiday pay on the payslip ffs,and trying to understand the payslip
might aswel try and read Chinese writing
^^^Tell them you’ll see them in the small claims court which you’ll also be claiming costs. Give them 7 days, IN WRITING, SIGNED FOR DELIVERY post.
When I was with them Numbermill said I could opt in/out of holiday pay deductions. I opted out but I believe it still has to be shown on payslips to comply with HMRC requirements.
Apparently there was programme last week reporting how numbermill and their like were somehow avoiding tax, national ins etc and that in the long run it wouldn’t be good for my NI contributions/pension an all that ( I realise this seams a bit vague but it was sort of the gist I got,tbh I wasn’t paying much attention what she was telling me cos I’m a bloke ) Didn’t see the prog myself and no doubt this could be agency ■■■■■■■■■ but was told I was to stop getting paid by them as soon as by their boss man
Milestone are aggressively pushing Numbermill, even to those who have alternative accounting arrangements.
iirc Numbermill`s charges are excessive in comparison to the alternatives

Date 27 January, 2015Recent legislative changes that affect agency workers
There has been a lot of media attention and with the recent legislative changes I am writing to you to help you to consider if you are operating compliantly. I am also writing to you to explain the changes that Milestone Operations are making in light of this legislation.
The most relevant pieces of legislation that I am writing to you about are Managed Service Company (MSC) and more recently the debt transfer provision. The MSC legislation affects you as an agency worker, however the debt transfer provision has serious implications on agencies and as such it is not something we are taking lightly.
We have appointed NumberMill Accounting who have been contacting our limited company drivers to ensure they are with a registered qualified accountant and not an MSC. Some of the information that this has unearthed thus far has indicated that both Milestone and some of the drivers may be at risk.
Some of our drivers with certain MSC’s were not aware that their company had been registered for the vat flat rate scheme as they were using the MSC’s bank account. This has meant they have lost thousands of pounds (typically over £4000 per annum) which in the event of an investigation, they would be taxed for.MSC (Managed Service Company Legislation)
If an agency is seen to be promoting or facilitating workers to set up as a Limited Company (also known as a Personal Service Company), then MSC legislation could apply. The implications with regard to this are vast for your recruitment agency and could result in the Directors being personally liable for any unpaid taxes. MSC Legislation was introduced in 2007 to tackle companies that were setting contractors up as directors in companies and offering corporate solutions (i.e. a one size fits all solution instead of bespoke tax advice). MSC Companies generally take all the directors responsibility away from the director and treat them like an employee. As such HMRC stipulate that if an individual is treated like an employee they need to be taxed like an employee.
Typical things an MSC may do are as follows:
- Issue a payslip that includes corporation tax and expenses as a deduction on the salary (Corporation tax is calculated separately and paid separately at the year-end by the director not the adviser)
- Registering a company for vat and keeping the flat rate saving or a percentage thereof (this is indicative of the MSC benefitting directly from the work done by the contractor)
- Charging a margin on each payslip (again this indicates direct benefit from the contractor, or charging based on the amount invoiced by the contractor. A professional accountant issues an invoice with a standard fee for the professional services rendered
See section 2.2 and section 4.1 of the document below

2014 Finance Bill - Section 44 – 47
The legislation indicates that where Personal Service Companies (often known as Limited Company where a contractor is a registered Director) are used as a payment vehicle through an agency, there may be risk to the agency directors personally, if they have not ensured that due diligence is performed with regard to the way the ltd company is operating and whether the tax affairs of the company in question are all in order.
This means that if Milestone is seen to allow you to operate through us via an MSC, we will become liable for any unpaid taxes, or incorrectly calculated taxes that may arise from your employment with us.
Furthermore, HMRC have indicated that there will be a greater focus by them on the legitimate use of limited companies and as such HMRC have introduced a Targeted Anti Avoidance Rule Taskforce (TAAR) and have indicated that it will be aimed at the Personal Service Companies.Visibility
HMRC have introduced new reporting responsibilities which mean that any payments that are made gross of tax to workers are reported, this means that HMRC have full visibility of Limited company and self-employed contractor payments and could thus launch an investigation if they have any suspicions relating to your company.
What does this mean to you and us?
You need to carefully consider if your accountant is an MSC as it could cost you thousands of pounds in taxes and penalties. If you are in any doubt as to whether your accountancy provider is a deemed MSC, please contact the qualified experts at NumberMill who can help you determine this.
In order to mitigate our risk, we have enlisted NumberMill to contact all our existing ltd company drivers to confirm the legitimacy of the accountant that they are currently using. Your site manager may also request this information from you.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact NumberMill’s compliance experts at NumberMill (contact details removed)
Yours sincerely
Gary Saville
Milestone Operations Director
do they let you register as a paye driver? or is it still shoved like so many others towards this scheme or ltd?

However I was not one of them

but in the leeter posted above they are so caring and just trying to look out for the poor drivers, when in reality they have decided that by setting up numbermill they can fleece you guys even more.
it winds me right up.
at least if pierre is correct you have the option still of paye!
99% of the drivers where I work are Milestone and I can only speak as I find; I’ve personally never had a problem, the money is always correct (to how I work it out), it’s in the bank every Friday without fail and tbh I’m left alone to get on with my job without a single phonecall from them.
Numbermill however are a different beast altogether. From the limited contact I’ve permitted them to have with me I get the impression of earnest young men wearing sharp suits and braces! The first time they rang me they called from a landline and left a voicemail asking me to contact them urgently. The number they left to call was a premium rate number! That in itself told me everything I needed to know about these shysters.
They still ring occasionaly but I find me repeatedly telling them to eff off has the desired effect.
I think that numbermill was created by a couple of Milestones directors who spotted that accountants were making money from agency drivers and they decided they wanted a slice of that cake too. AVOID.
its the same people and i mean exactly the same people. So yeah they value you that much they have collectively decided that ‘john does such a good job for us how can we take more money off him and his mates?’ oh i know lets set up this company too push it onto most of our drivers and make even more.
they may as well for those who have signed up or gone/been forced to go with them have said hi sorry but we are going to leave you as you are, but we are now also going to charge you £30 - £50 per week for finding you work.
great ethics if you ask me.
