Refused to take truck out...........did i do right?

Judehamish:
Let all the air out of it when you are somewhere quiet well away from the yard, they will have to send a tyre fitter out then to replace it.

That’s actually not a bad tip!

Looking at the pictures of the tyres the OP has posted I have put better tyres on a shunt motor working in a scrapyard, I have had a tyre blow on me whilst inflating it and it bloody hurt! but i’m here to tell the tale so why take the chance?,get it changed and if your boss moans ask him what is more important, your safety, public’s safety, truck’s downtime IE, waiting 2/3 hrs for call out for tyre fitter OR your licence No excuse really get it changed, no excuse.

Believe it or not that tyre is only 6 weeks old! Its just come back from an mot 5 weeks ago which is why they changed the tyres before mot, its a refuse truck collecting glass i have to drive on glass to tip off and it has no rear steering like the more modern trucks so it just drags the back end round and rips the tyres apart,

Greedy company i work for they wont spend money, crap wages crap trucks most people working there are polish, only reason i toke the job is to gain experience,

Class 1 retest booked 4th october fingers crossed i get through this time i wont be sad to see the back of this company.

Just a little perspective for those not understanding the true force of a tyres pressure…

Always play it safe if you can, it’s not just about points on your licence.

caledoniandream:
A cut in the tyre doesn’t make the tyre illegal.
If you cannot see any cords, even when you spread it slightly open, it’s road legal.
Also when there is a bulge on point of the cut, it would be illegal as clearly the cords have been damaged.
Keep in mind cheap Chinese tyres seem to have slight bulges from new, this is in the construction and doesn’t do any damage.

So make your mind up if the tyre is illegal or not, and base your refusal to take the truck out on facts, not on fiction.

And yes if the tyre is clearly illegal, don’t take it out, and keep a clear record of your conversation with the office, and keep a clear picture on your phone of the offending item.

Please read it as written, I said ‘if he can’t cope’ not ‘he can’t cope’. It was an observation. As I’ve already told you at least once he asked a question, I answered it. Your dragging this on a bit now

Ok Luke, Youve spoken, therefore it is. What you describe as dragging on was me taking issue with your superior tone. It’s dropped.

As above don’t mess around trying to dislodge sharp objects etc, respect compressed air.

Type of work you’re on puts a bit of a different slant on it TBH.

Good advice above, there are 104 messages of condolence on the top of Old Timers page, that life was lost through a tyre :frowning:

Facebook has just reminded me that its 5 years this week that my brothers friend was killed

His baby is going to school now, so much is lost when someone dies in a tragic accident, not just your life but the lives of everyone around you are damaged forever.

Be safe out there kids, look after yourself, and each other

Luke, It is only when you sit and think, when either a friend cops it or a family member, that the stupid things you have done and the chances that you have taken makes you stop and think, I have had a 12 x 22.5 blow on me whilst I was 3 foot away from it, I was ok but it bloody stung, still went to get checked out as I had chest pains, nurse said it was because I was well built,Fat bas–rd more like!
No life is worth doing another shift on a knackered tyre whether it is for a company or for yourself as an OD, Cheer’s Pete

If it was that bad you had to defect it why did you take it out for 2 days?

+1
