You undermined yourself by taking it out twice with the defect, you shouldn’t have taken it at all. No doubt the fact you took it out meant they considered that it may not be that serious an issue. Either take it out or don’t, don’t take it out on some days and not others, makes it look like you’re taking the ■■■■

I didnt mate i toke it out once knowing of the defect it happened 7 hours on to my shift on thursday, i know i shouldnt of toke it regardless

You also said you took it out on Friday too as it was the last shift of the week!!!

I totally echo Luke’s stateme.

Once, twice or ten times the point still stands, be consistant

Doesn’t have a bearing on his boss’ moaning. Doesn’t mean he can’t have a change of heart, realise he did wrong taking it out, finding it still in the same state Monday after they’ve had all weekend to fix it. If anything, he’s given them more notice than they needed. Doesn’t mean his boss is right. He probably would’ve moaned at him on a Friday.

Think about it. If you’d not taken the spare and still defected your motor on the Monday the boss would still be moaning as he’d be the same number of trucks down. 2 jobs need doing. Only 1 lorry. The spare in the diary is a red herring. He’s had a weekend to get the tyre checked and either cleared as OK or fixed. You’re picking up the earache for them not doing anything about it and essentially having 1 lorry defect free for 2 drivers.

I couldn’t care less what his boss said or didn’t say really, he asked a question, I answered it…If he can’t cope with the odd moaning boss he’s most likely in the wrong industry

Where did he say that that he couldnt cope for you to surmise he’s in the wrong industry?? Bit drastic.

He refused to take it out, he wanted to know if he did right not taking it out. No one knows as we can’t see the tyre. That’s answering it. The rest is discussion, as tends to happen on forums

Please read it as written, I said ‘if he can’t cope’ not ‘he can’t cope’. It was an observation. As I’ve already told you at least once he asked a question, I answered it. Your dragging this on a bit now

Thats the cut i went in today and got told its ok to run, i refused to take it out untill i had it signed off which he did eventually sign it in written,

Im fairly new to driving april this year im just trying to gain so much needed knowledge.

Jesus H Christ, that tyre is a disgrace! Is this normal at your place?!

Think you need to find a better employer.
Doesn’t matter if the boss as signed a bit of paper you’re the driver so your responsible if you get pulled.

Yes these are saying its ok because its not down to the wire, im trying to explain that in the middle of the cut is glass lodged in there, so its now a weak spot and could blow if that area hits a bump in the road,

Im ready for walking to be honest im sick of there ■■■■ they dont care about there drivers licences

Even without the cut I’m not sure id be happy taking that tyre out. But they are right, if it’s not down to the wire it is (usually) legal, but unless the glass is removed you can’t see if it is or isn’t. And poking a knackered tyre to remove a lump of glass really isn’t advisable

Think you should put this all down to experience and start on the hunt for a new job…

Looks fine to me, remove screw then crack on.
Superficial damage only.
Glass won’t hurt steel reinforced tyres, it’s not a cycle tyre.

Just remove any offending items with pliers and wear your hi viz.

Disregarding the glass for a minute that tyre in the picture looks in a shocking state anyway. Regardless of the fact that it may technically legal for road use you will find that first impressions are very important when dealing with the police or DVSA and that tyre would absolutely guarantee an extended stay at any checkpoint whilst they dig around for anything else to jump on you for, whilst at the same time guys in clean and tidy motors will be getting waved straight past you.

Don’t pop up on their radar if you want a quiet life.

Yet glass will cut rubber down to the wires, and depending how old the cut is the wires can start corroding so hey presto, buggered tyre, and if wires are showing that’s 3 points on your licence thank you please.

Edit: Also I’d never dig around trying to remove something wedged in deep, lives have been lost messing round with tyres.

Good advice above, there are 104 messages of condolence on the top of Old Timers page, that life was lost through a tyre :frowning:

Yep what’s a serviceable tyre to one driver is down right dangerous to another, always best to err on the side of caution.

No one can see the true damage underneath if in doubt get the fitter out.

I’ve driven on worse though

Ah I’d not seen that. Once upon a time I’d jab around trying to remove foreign objects from tyres, that is until one of my brothers friends was blown to pieces.

Edit: Just had a look, was Saviem, such an awful thing to happen, he was always very entertaining and knowledgable

Don’t like the look of the tyre either wouldn’t be going anywhere if it was me on the first time i saw it,can see where the gaffers coming from its ok for 2 days now the same tyre isn’t on the third day,but tbh if it’s like that shouldn’t have gone anywhere the moment you saw it,as you said its your license if you get pulled.
I know you haven’t been driving long and keen to make a good impression and gain experience which we have all done (even those who reckon they know everything from day 1 lol ) but its a learning curve which takes time.

Yep if you have a screw in your tyre and start unscrewing it in the hope it hasn’t gone to deep or the screw isn’t to long the results can be anything from a non event to death or at least a nasty hissing noise.

For the sake of a few hundred quid get a new one.

Let all the air out of it when you are somewhere quiet well away from the yard, they will have to send a tyre fitter out then to replace it.
