When I was a tanker driver I used to haul Anhydrous Ammonia which was carried in an extremely cold state and under immense pressure (empty tank and unit used to tare off at over 25 tonne due to the armoured tank) so am well aware of the dangers of ammonia.Anyhoo, a couple of weeks ago on our site we had the toxic alarm go off, obviously the first thing I did was look at the windsock and then looked on in amazement as they shepherded everyone into the traffic office which not only was directly downwind from the ammonia tanks but also had every window open in the office too! I explained quietly to the site H&S man the error of his ways and he had absolutely no concept of what a disaster it could have been if it hadn’t been a false alarm.
Did you unload and load the ammonia yourself to the tank?
Yes mate, suited, booted and full BA. Never cut corners with this stuff; my mate explained it as; “it’s a wild animal, if it gets out it’ll kill you!”

Being a fridge man is a lot like being in the SAS, if we get it wrong then people die,So you were on the balcony because the Iranians had bought a Beko?
I can’t speak about it to be honest, I would love to but it is in my new book, bravo two Zanussi. Have to give credit to Andy call me a cab who is the co author.
I wouldn’t wipe my wet, splash backed plums on that book of yours “he who fridges, wins”. Pure walting.

Well humidity man, you may have the luxury of bugging out because you dropped your spanner, fridge men don’t have that luxury, we drop a spanner the mission continues, I would have tightened that nut with my teeth. My jaws are as good as any shifters jaws. My books are best sellers, “balls of steel” and “bravo two Zanussi” was years in the writing, they earned me 600 amazon points for their download on over 30 different kindles. Read them and weep humidity man! And why you have wet, splash backed plums is the mere fact that your humidity stat isn’t working correctly, want a real fridge man to take a look at that for ya ? Give me a call brother.

I have a question about a fridge?
Is it running? Always.
Well get after it then.
Don’t park next to me if it is cause its 10pm cut off.

You’d be popular turning a load of ice cream off at 10.00hr, or temperature critical medical supplies.,
If you don’t like the rattling box park somewhere else, I was ere first.

Wise words and very true, nightmare stuff to deal with.
Right, i am on page 4…and so far have learnt how long to keep a chicken in a fridge…and all about amonia and some stuff called R22…is that it ■■?..i wanna learn a bit more about the technical stuff…like how to annoy fellow drivers when theyre sleeping with my Carrier…also when can i turn it off ( before they do ) and for how long with what produce…also why did my avocados from marseille to london turn black…well i do know rthe answer, and the temp was set right…so get on with it UK TRAMP…people are becoming anxious and impatient.
I said 2 pages ago I was going to kill this thread, it still continues as I know everyone now loves refrigeration posts. I had said I would do one on reefers and I will do. However I did actually have some fantastic videos at one time on youtube where I was going into detail on the repair and maintenance on them. I am trying to recover these back so that I can once again re post them as they became so popular I ended up with over 30K of subscribers from all over the world. I would have to be careful this time as I do not want to get this number of subscribers again and attract unwelcome emails etc. I do think for the few on here who would want to view them I would be willing to show them with a private password protected page. They would go well with some of the content I could put together for on this site only. Some drivers may not want to know about the mechanics of the refrigeration but I am sure a lot who are more mechanically minded would find it more interesting.
Keep going UKt, I’ve always been interested in how things work.
When I was 12 I took a TV apart then put it back together again. Nearly blew the chuffing house up.
If you could get past the self phrase then you might be something that’s believable
What’s the idea of dragging it out and looking for approval in your posts
Tell all how it is if that’s the truth hardly because your driving a truck now a big come down if you don’t mind me saying
You are living in the pits now with driving a truck and thats some come down
When I did fertilizer, I was collecting from plants that has ammonia on site. Not once at any site was I told about what to do in a gas leak.

Well that is one way of looking at my driving, I am not dragging anything out I am working out the best way to do a reefer or vehicle air con mini series without boring everyone to death. I dip in and out of driving as and when it suits me. If a driving job is of interest to me and I enjoy it then I take it, if I get a decent fridge project that pays well, then I leave driving and undertake that. I don’t look on it as a big come down as I seriously don’t need the money nowadays that I did years ago. I now look at work for the enjoyment or interest rather than for the money. If I drove just for the money then yes it would be a come down in comparison to what I can earn elsewhere. I still have a trading refrigeration business that my son and son - in law run. I still get that money as well as my driving, it may not sound sensible to some but to me it makes sense. Thanks for your interest and hopefully this explanation may help you understand.

I still do things like this and delighted to know how things work… TV progs such as ‘How it’s made’ are right up my A-road.
Thought the bit about the ammonia cloud… near the top of this thread was very useful information.
Just one thing though… if you happen to be in an RDC and I ■■■■… you’ll need to move faster than that.

There must be other options available ?

Dont like the sound of that to be honest !
I’m afraid UKTramp, and no disrespect I’m going to call you out and say I don’t think you are who you claim you are. I don’t think you are a fridge engineer at all.
You may know things about fridges, and chilled or frozen goods. But in this whole thread you haven’t actually said anything of much substance about how fridges work etc. You’ve mentioned about a wind sock and ammonia, all stuff that could be Googled I’m sure.
One thing I picked up from you is about a body store. Specifically that doors should have lights on OR luminous areas around door handles. Now I’ve been in a mortuary that held over 100 people, so fairly big and it was very modern. In fact so modern they had one big fridge that porters could wheel a whole hospital bed for bariatric patients in, to wait for there to enough staff around to handle the size of the body. The fridges didn’t have any lights or illuminated handles inside. It’s sort of the stuff of Hollywood movies and legends. You also state words to the effect that lots of people have woken up after verification of death (we don’t call it certification in this country) hency the need to escape/call for help. In a very few cases it may have happened but that’s it.
Given the lack of information that you promised, plus this stuff about body stores, I say it’s trolling. Elaborate granted. Still trolling though I reckon.
Dozy?

Bang on…this guy was sacked from a refrigeration company…started working for himself but his competency was such that he went bust…he then started driving a van , perhaps a truck, …in the last few days he has been obliged to give up driving…I do feel sorry for him but no one on this forum is helping him by encouraging his ranting and raving…I think you are spot on by calling him out.

Guilty until proven otherwise anyone who says something and then drags it out is a person looking for attention why would you come on and say i will explain this to you and then give you dribs and drabs
Most of the stuff can be got on Google
At the same time he is very entertaining and good with the words so no harm done to me and keep it up very entertaining

To be honest I really don’t care a dam about what you think you know and “calling me out” never heard anything so ridiculous as this. I have shown my refrigeration qualifications on here so how on earth can you say this silly statement? The body stores is a fact, I know I used to design and commission them. Also for your information whatever I say on here would be available on Google or whatever other media, strange though isn’t it how I mentioned my youtube channel and then there is evidence I did have this channel, anyway as I say I think you are just one of those funny people that are so narrow minded that you believe nothing, I can say the same as yourself, I will call you out as you have just shown you know nothing about mortuary body stores. Do me a favour mate and get your facts right before making a ■■■ out of yourself. Take a look at body stores on any site you like for specs, try this for starters. leec.co.uk/products/mortuary … e-cabinets
or this data sheet. afosgroup.com/medical/products/mortuary
You will find they do have internal lights and emergency on switch inside, so who is calling who out here?
