DAF95XF:
I had my interview on Friday and to confirm/bust a few mythes about them.
Yes if you have a prang they will take it out of your wages, but as you get a weekly bonus they take the bonus from you until its paid back, but as its a bonus then you wont miss it really
Yes you wont be in the same unit all the time, even trampers if you’re back at the yard during the week.
Thank you, hope this helps
So in fact I was right and they don’t take it from your wages - you lose the bonus you get for not driving like an arse.
I’d ask them what’s the ■■■■■■■ insurance for and tell 'em to swivel…
No driver should ever pay for damage. I certainly wouldn’t, not that (so far) I’ve damaged a truck… If the company don’t like a driver then don’t employ him or her, perhaps hand out a disciplinary, but to take it out of their wages is outrageous.
So if you wrote off a new MAN, how long would it be before you’d paid even the excess off■■?
PS the bonus system sounds like a - don’t crash bribe to me. They obviously think very highly of their drivers…if you trust 'em so little why set them on in the first place??

They don’t and they don’t expect them to pay for parking either. Its the usual knuckle scraper ■■■■■■■■ being spouted. Ask them to show you where it states it in their contract of employment and there’s lots of shuffling of feet and “Bob said you did so it must be true…” Conor last week

So losing your bonus for an unspecified time, is not losing your wages, you are just playing semantics now, you are still paying for accident damage either way, you are stupid.

If your a casual driver you dont get bonus. If you have an accident that is proved to be down to driver negligence then a set amount of money is taken from your wages.

so is, drivers fault and driver negligence the same thing?
No, i dont think it is. If you have an accident by driving down the road and say slide on ice and bend the truck thats an accident. If you were to reverse the truck into another truck due to not making sure the area was clear then that’s driver negligence and would have your wages or bonus deducted accordingly.
It is up to a maximum of £1000 and deducted weekly to a max of £50 per week dependant on what you can afford agreed between you and RB. Still not ideal but it’s not open ended and from what I’m led to believe its supposed to be a detterent for stupidity rather than penalising genuine accidents. I agree in principle that it seems harsh but as an example last week my assessment was postponed when the assessor found the passenger seat belt had been cut off??!!
My concern would be whether you get to see the repair invoice as without it you have no idea whether RB are adding a “margin”.

Not my wages they wouldn’t mate. I invoice them as I’m self employed and I’d expect to be paid regardless…If they didn’t pay the invoice, then they would receive a letter from the small claims court very quickly…
I’ve been ripped off before with ■■■■■■■■ like this from companies like this…not again

Who decides whether it’s accident or negligence? It’s a thin line sometimes as I think all of us try our best to avoid ANY damage whatsoever.

A lot of firms give these bonuses because a lot of drivers take the “its not my truck so I don’t give a stuff” attitude. A mate of mine working at Westram says thats the attitude of most of the drivers at that place and they’re always stuffing wagons, caravans and portacabins.

£1000 doesn’t buy you a lot of repair with headlight units costing you £200+ a pop.
I do share your concern about who decides if its accident or negligence but usually the drivers record and attitude goes a long way in that decision - i.e turn up to work looking like you’ve been dragged out of a bush, don’t give a toss about filling in the paperwork and generally have a don’t give a stuff attitude and they’ll say you’ve been negligent.
Sadly a lot of drivers don’t give a stuff if they do any damage, especially agency.
