Red heatwave warning

38 and humid here in Qld on most summer days. Wear a baseball cap with a wet hand towel round the back of your neck. I drove an old '83 Merc prime mover with no air con. Windows open, stop whingeing and enjoy the open road.

I’ve heard it’s going to be so hot that…wait for it…

Some of you may have to take off your hi viz vests whilst driving !! :open_mouth:
Yeh seriously. :bulb:
(Don’t worry though, you can resume looking an absolute 2hat when it cools back down. )

I may remove the sun roof so it’s like a gun turret

Can’t believe that some shops ect are shutting on Monday Tuesday…WTF!!

It’s likely because the display chiller and freezer units tend to fail

Find out if they will let you run the engine while you’re parked up, to run the aircon.

That’s up there with asking them if it’s ok to use night heater in case you use too much diesel …two words spring to mind… ‘‘■■■■’’ and '‘them.’ . :unamused:
If it’s hot when I park up it goes on, ok not all night, but if I’m sat in cab before if/when I go out, and when I come back for about 20 mins to cool cab down.
(Unless of course somebody is parked next to me with curtains up, being that unlike some I actually consider other dtivers)

Wtf is all this ott hysteria on the news about health warnings ffs? :unamused:
A few years ago the news item would be along the lines of expect a good summer,.and wear your sunscreen, now it’s as if they’re expecting climatic armageddon. :unamused:
Is this the new trend now, if it’s anything like the gross exaggeration of the covid/flu epidemic, (Morning Franglais  ) .we’ll all be staying at home on furlough until the ■■■■ temperatures cool down. :unamused:

Ramping up the ‘climate’ fear agenda so everyone will say fine when they put loads more ‘carbon tax’ on fuel bills or cut off the gas so they can export it all.
They’re now saying that the alpine glaciers are melting but somehow Mont Blanc remains as Blanc as ever covered in its winter snow among others.

A long time ago when I was at school, if it was hot and sunny the desks were put in the playground, shirts off no hats never even heard of sunscreen, happy days, my daughter has been told that the school is shut on monday and tuesday. Some schools insist that every child has abottle of sun screen left at school all summer or they can,t play outside if its sunny. Learning h.& s. at a young age.

We actually had a driver phone the TM today and say “my wife has said that it’s too hot to come to work on Monday so I’ll need to take the day off!‘’

Seriously mate?? :open_mouth:
Ffs :unamused: , and you have to work with a fanny like that., :unamused:

Cab temperatures often at 57/60c + and no air conditioning.

An old ex ME driver I know once showed me some pics.
He had an old split windscreen Atkinson Borderer, the doors on that model were stopped at the hinge with a short leather belt to prevent them from going right around towards the front of the cab.
He’d took the belts off and strapped the doors fully open running flush with the side of the cab to get a ‘through draft’.
Obviously the cab was full of sand but he wasn’t bothered…he said he had a good brush.
The days when truckers were real men.

I remember using a DAF 3300 that was a ME motor, whilst mine was broken down, on a UK run.hired from a mate who ran them at the time.
It had the air con unit on the roof, one of the first ones I reckon.
I was driving down the M6 bored with life, thinking '‘What is that switch for ‘’’ (all night aircon)
Pressed it and got myself covered and the whole cab interior covered in cream coloured powdery sand that was left over in the (faulty) system. :unamused:

Unlike some other posters am not going to tell you that we had it worse and lived, but I say take some sensible precautions , it is going to get hot and your in a tin can, get bottles of water and drink them if you have have a fridge put as many in thgere as you can and and you use one put another in , if you can run the engine and aircon, keep your windows up, if you cant run your engine or dont have aircon open your windows 3/4 and your roof hatch, and place wet towels on the lowest part of the cab (floor)heat rises. if your over nighting over the next couple days- and you havent been in this sort of heat before then its water water water- keep hydrated place wet towels around your cab the evapoaration from the towels will mitigate some of the heat (moisture) above all if you feel unwell seek help , its not the end of the world just a couple hot days, but for those not used to it if your not sensible 37-40 degrees in a glass-fronted tin can can be fatal

I don’t remember all this hysteria in the Summer of 1976.
Also those types of temperatures or even higher are nothing unusual in Southern Europe lasting for weeks/months during the Summer not a few days.

More nonsense from you, highest was 35.6c on the 28th of July in Southampton …. This is expected to be 40c or above …

Come to Australia 35 is normal summer day.

Oi! A bit more discretion who you hand out invitations to, if you please.

Sorry mate, I do think we are beneath him …

You were in the t/o discussing another drivers behaviour with the enemy , did I not dodge a bullet not taking a job at your place , sounds like a workforce of back stabbers ,
I’d be hoping the lad had a nice break , I guess you & your mates would see him being sacked a result ,
How the jobs changed , we used to stick together not stab our work mates at every opertunity
I’m gobsmacked to be honest moaster, didn’t expect this kid of behaviour out of you

I think that the idea of running to the Middle East, at least in Summer, without air con fits the definition believe half what you hear.
There were some totally believable specific references to the temperatures involved in the book Cola Cowboys. It went along the lines of leaving an air conditioned cab in daytime such as to fix a blown tyre/tyres could be lethal. On that note temperature in Saudi now is 34C at midnight and 39C at 10am.
But do know that Italy in July can get close enough.
Opening the windows as a substitute for air con during the day there is similar to having the heater on during a warm Summer day here the air itself coming through the windows is literally hot.Even at night it’s more than warm enough.
Also remember the soles of my shoes sticking to the hot deck of the Messina Ferry in late May.
Climate change nah.

The voice of experience! (Where’s the sarcastic smiley?) In the 70s here, air-con was the exeption, not the rule, even in cars offices and shops.
Don’t wind the windows down in 40⁰, you must have two…

I’ve got plenty of ‘experience’ of driving in mid July Italian type temperatures with and without air con also some even hotter American temperatures where I wouldn’t have wanted to be without it.
In addition to mid Summer Southern States humidity levels.
Also it was a reasonable bet in the 1970’s here that a tilt and an air con unit on the roof generally meant a Middle East running outfit.
I’ve got no reason to doubt what was written in the Cola Cowboys book in that regard.
Just as I think I know why the government is trying to conflate the real dangers of Saudi type temperatures with those of a warm Summer day in Italy or Spain ( the climate scam ).
So no I don’t believe that anyone drove to Doha in Summer without air con.Just as I believe that plenty of European drivers drove through the midday heat of an Italian or Spanish Summer and slept through the nights without it.

You are aware lots of us work in permanent jobs where this is the case too!

If you turn off the idiot box in the corner and ignore the sensationalist fear ■■■■■■■■ peddled 24/7, and instead looked outside you’d notice it’s the middle of July which means its the middle of summer.

Enjoy the warmth, and if you can come up with a way of harnessing that life giving warmth from our sun you might find winters a lot more bearable and affordable than the WEF and it’s disciples have planned, for you.
