I failed my class 2 this morning and never in my life have I felt so absolutely gutted.
Failed my mock test on Friday with 7 minors and 2 serious. The 1st was for crunching my gears, the 2nd for driving too slow (33mph in a 40mph zone).
This morning I failed the real thing, again with 7 minors but this time with 3 serious. The 1st was for not spotting a car coming up the inside of me on a roundabout, the 2nd for forgetting to turn my signal off after overtaking a car and coming back in and the 3rd was for forgetting to check my nearside mirror after passing a couple of pedestrians walking particularly close to the kerb.
I haven’t booked a retest yet but to those who have passed after failing an attempt, how did you do it?

I failed my test on two majors and rest was clean!!! Mines was loosing gears and 2nd was undue hesitation.
My tip is don’t beat yourself up from it and just get back up on your horse and get that rebook in!!!
I suggest you take advice from your trainer as to how much training is required to achieve test standard as there is no evidence in the post that you’ve got there yet. It may be an hour or two, maybe a bit more. Try to avoid the cycle of fail/retest/fail/retest by ensuring you’re up to standard before the test. Even then, no-one can promise a pass. But at least you’re in with a better chance.

Don’t stress about it pal and just get straight back into it!
Was it chucking it down during your test, as it didn’t stop in my area, and the standard of driving on the roads was shocking!
I had a women on my test mount a kerb and drive down a path on my test just so she never had to wait for me to pass a car, My examiner was not impressed by her!, Lucky I stopped so if she hit me, she be at fault!
Impossible for me to understand what/why/how you are not at the required standard to pass your test as I’ve never met you. Sounds like observation problems caused by one reason or another, did you enjoy driving on test or was it stressful?
One thing for sure, now that we use only trucks with automatic gearboxes it’s become so much easier - that might be your solution. Let’s you concentrate much more on what is happening around your vehicle, by the sound of it that might help you get that pass.

Yeah I actually wish I learn to drive my Cat C in an semi-automatic as I heard people it easier and my major one was learning gears but defo be doing my C+E in Semi-Automatic
I failed my class 1 twice mate I know how your feeling believe me, all I can say is crack on you will pass in the end. On the 3rd attempt I was at my wits end thinking about all the money I spent. When the time came to take my 3rd test I didn’t tell anyone not even the wife I told her I had been called into work but it all fell into place and I got through it
best of luck to ya

I disagree with Peter on this one because after reading the post carefully I reckon you are at test standard and its odd lapses probably due to test pressure where you are falling down
You also accept and agree with where those lapses were which shows a good attitude
Perhaps Peter and I differ due to the way we interpret the post …
Yeah, i made the mistake of telling everyone at work on my first test, and it was horrible going into work with everyone coming up to me and asking how i did, man i felt ■■■■ all week, this time around i’ve not told anyone about my test, so if i fail, its only me getting upset lol! and the gf…, mom, dad, ect…
Hi,I failed on two previous attempts and… On Monday I passed with only one minor!
like you say it’s an awful feeling when you do fail, but when you have invested a lot of cash to get this far you have to keep on going,
All the best

Question that you need to ask yourself is why did you start the training in the first place, because you want to drive a truck for a living… so the idea of giving up isn’t a concept you should be think about
Whilst there is the financial expense of another test, if you want it bad enough its a case of understanding your mistakes…dusting yourself down and take the bull by the horns …rebook the test
I think I’m inclined towards Pete’s view on this, that the ‘test’ is more of an assessment to see if you are ready to be let loose on the roads. If that assessment concludes that you’re not yet ready, all it means is that you need to get a little more training and practice in to get you up to the safe standard. Don’t think of it as a pass or fail, consider it a safety assessment as to whether you are fit to drive solo yet.
If the conclusion is not, just persevere until you are ready and safe. As has been said already, if the pass rate is only about 50% then there is nothing to say you are anything less than average at the moment. If you still don’t make the grade next time then you can have another think then, until now I reckon you can just crack on and not worry.
And remember, the day of your test is just as much about luck as about your driving skills. Even the best driver can get a crappy run of it at the roundabouts, or an unexpected event that couldn’t reasonably have been anticipated but leaves you with an unsuccessful attempt. Equally, on a good day you could get a clear and easy run of it and pass with no faults at all.
Luck is fickle, don’t take it personally and don’t let it get you down.
Know how you feel! I passed on my 2nd attempt, the examiner failed me on my 1st on - going into the correct lane on a roundabout however just at this time they happened to be painting arrows on the lane next to mine and they (when i say they i mean the jolly chaps that paint the road) but did they leave enough room between the kerb and the bright orange cones they so nicely decorated the road with? NO, me thinking hmmm kerb or cone…surely the examiner will see the lane width isn’t big enough. What happened? i just slightly rolled over the edge (the weighted part) of the cone… to my shock that was what he failed me on! 1 word, FUMING… luckily my “employer” required me to pass and nothing came out of my pocket to do so (don’t mean to rub salt in the wound).
Anyway! get back to it, it’ll of hit you hard enough you failed…get back to your instructor and get confident with your ability so then next time you’ll breeze it
I passed on my third attempt, 1st time I wasn’t used to to gearbox, I had gone from 4 over 4 to a slap box the day before the test, I explained this to the examiner, he was great, but I rode a kerb at a roundabout, that was the final straw. 2nd test, I had this thing about hesitancy in my head, went to overtake a bus, forgot to slap, found 3rd instead of 5th, good job the examiner had his seat belt on. 3rd attempt, effectively crawled round, 20-25 mph, passed with 4 minors. After attempt 2 I was at odds with myself.
I passed on my 4th attempt but my second was by far the worst, i just totally fluffed it! I was at my wits end by the 4th one, you think of all the money you spent and it gets to you! On the other hand i have a mate who passed on his 7th attempt! If you can settle your nerves youve cracked it!
Observation is key, my instructor noticed that the likelihood of my checking the mirrors after passing pedestrians increased with their attractiveness! I got into my head that EVERY pedestrian was attractive and checking mirrors became habit!
That said I did fail my first c+e test (not for observations might I add!)
Chin up, learn from your mistakes and crack on drive.
Cavey.
Thanks everyone for your replies, I read them last night and took a lot of heart from knowing that I wasn’t the only one to have that horrible, gutted feeling.
