Let me guess, you tried to get a job as a hato and were turned down so you now hold a grudge. Why dont you crawl back under your filthy duvet. You clearly haven’t listened to a word anyone has said instead trying to come up with some BS that you cannot base on fact, just your own warped opinion. You know nothing.
lol post of the millennium. failed copper please troll elsewhere! ring doughnuts for each others penises! Too busy nibbling them off!
I hope your’e not suggesting I am a failed Copper? I wouldn’t dream of doing that job. Just remember, not only do you hate us, you probably hate the Police too and many of our guys are ex Police so they’ll give you jip thinking they are still in the job. I never wanted to be a copper, all that paperwork crap, domestics, ■■■■ with cameras trying to make you slip up, slimy lawyers getting people off of offences they clearly did and should be punished for! No Thank You. Still, when we are taking over by the BTP and you give me ■■■■■ on the HS taking a break but giving me some crap about a warning light on or saying you lost air or perhaps taking a pee and thinking I can’t see your weiner, I will gladly wipe that smarmy smile off your face and give you a £60 ticket. Beaut.

I’m a night driver and am often on the ‘new’ section of the M25 between M26 and M23, most nights it’s like a disco due to the constant flashing of people continually driving through the closed lanes, shame more motorways don’t have the cameras in yet.

probably because for every relevant X there are 100 red X’s for absolutely no reason so people take no notice.
+1
But like someone said, in a town at night there are 100 red traffic lights, many of which do not need to be on or Red but you still obey them. Why? Because you know there are either cameras, the Police parked up waiting, its just wrong or you might go through and hit someone so what makes it ok to drive through a Red X at night on a motorway which is the same offence?
Is it worth it? Just move over, be a pro and feel comfort that you are better than the tools who ignore them. Another lane 1 yesterday afternoon, another bunch of baffoons feeling the signs didn’t apply to them. It’s just not acceptable
At one time, red signal lights meant stop, do not pass. That included level crossings, traffic lights and flashing red lights on emergency vehicles. You simply did not pass them. Something changed over the years and the same signals now have different meanings which can be confusing. For example you now see flashing red lights on lots of emergency vehicles, breakdown vans and contactors in roadworks. Even Hatos have flashing red lights. Those red lights no longer mean stop, they mean be aware there is a hazard. We used to use only amber lights for this purpose, but it seems some red lights mean the same as amber now.
For the record, I don’t drive in lanes with a red X displayed.
On a similar theme, we now have managed motorways where the hard shoulder is sometimes available as an extra lane. The hard shoulder/extra lane overhead matrix signals show when the lane is open, but are usually blank when traffic isn’t supposed to use the lane. It would be safer if a red X was continuously displayed whenever traffic is not permitted to use the hard shoulder as a lane. Doing this would generate more respect for red X’s wherever they were used.

They still mean stop. How many people will drive past an onslip with a double red wicket on them, most don’t even know what they are for. What you’ll notice is that amber motorway signs flash up and down as do level crossings but Reds flash left and right to aid colour blind people. The ONLY people legally allowed to display Red rear lights are Police and HATO believe it or not. The reason being, recovery, cranes, wide loads etc need an amber warning light that means they are a hazard. Police and HATO stop in live lanes without much protection. Of course, like pretty much everything in life, people don’t understand, care or just ignore directions.

We agree that a Red X should stay up so people know Red X, not open, speed signs, lane open but tptb deem it isn’t needed as drivers should understand that you can ONLY use a hard shoulder when signs tell you you can by way of “Congestion use hard shoulder” and a speed above the lane. If there is nothing displayed, it is closed. Even on my way in to work this afternoon, a car pulled over having no clue whatsoever she was breaking the law. Scary, but we’re used to it now

so how come every vehicle on the road displays rear red lights then
Is it any wonder drivers are confused when the Aston Expressway (A38M) has every lane marked up on the matrix signs showing open or closed? (white/green arrow means open, red X means closed). The lanes are tidal with the rush hour and there is always a lane which is closed to both directions in between the live lanes. This has been in use for many years and seems to work well. WTF did TPTB decide a different system of lane use indication was sensible. ■■■■ ups and breweries come to mind.
As for flashing red lights on Police and Hato vehicles, when they are stopped on the hard shoulder, with their red lights flashing merrily away as per usual, are we expected to stop in the live lanes and not pass said red flashing lights?
If only Police and Hato can use red flashing lights, why don’t all the other users get nicked as they are diluting the effectiveness of the legal users?
maybe I am pedantic
I reckon if all HA staff went on strike immediately the general public wouldn’t notice until they realised they were getting from A to B faster

A red traffic light stays on, as does a red X where as our and police Res lights flash alternately. The offence is passing a red light as I understand it. As for merrily flashing away, as we all know, no one pays a damnedest bit of attention to 50’s any more so if I am expected to do my job, as the police don’t do it anymore, and prevent you hitting debris by walking out and picking it up, I’d prefer you to see Red and, if you like, think I’m the police and slow down because let’s face it, when people see police red lights they also slam on the anchors, slow down so I can cross 3 lanes safely to collect the debris. If we are on the HS, we may put them on as we want you to slow and give us space as we may have lots of people there, but for a general breakdown, we should use ambers only, we’re here, give us space but don’t drive past us like an idiot. The police SHOULD be dealing with Amber and red light abusers but, they’re not interested.

When I went home earlier, I think we were on about log number 1875, that’s 1875 breakdowns, RTC’s, debris, Fires, Attempted Suicides, road defects spotted and reported, tyre changes with lane 1’s, observations and many others. There are 3 traffic units in my area down from 8. They are pressured to deal with crime and not mundane stuff like we do, mundane but essential to keeping the traffic moving. We cost you £1.20 each A YEAR to run in leased cars, on rubbish pay, with limitations on pretty much everything from less patrolling to finding the cheapest fuel versus 2 cops with Glocks, MP5’s, a purchased £35.000 BMW, doing 8mpg at warp speed earning £40g a year.
It’s about time this so called Highways Agency were held accountable to some governing body and fined for their total and utter incompetence they are a disgrace!!
Day after day night after night we have to put up with the utter incompetence of the Highways Agency. They are a law unto themselves and until they are held accountable to anyone we are going to suffer their absolute disregard for drivers and businesses.
A few recent examples… M1 South Message board reads “A38 Closed South After A5132” When i got there it was open but closed Northbound and this wrong information was on the M1 for five consecutive nights!!
M6 North after Keele every night Message board reads “Queue Ahead 50” then “Queue Ahead 40”. Get to Junction 16 nothing and that’s the same every night in the early hours!!
M6 South after Hilton Park three consecutive nights at 9.45 overhead gantries say lanes 1 & 2 closed further down it turns to red X over lanes 1 & 2 most pull over but each night get to junction 10 and nothing!! Fortunately on each night many trunkers got the phone call from trunkers up ahead to tell them nothing is happening so stayed in lane 1 with a few others wise to the fact.
The above are just three examples of many i come across each night so god knows what chaos these wrong information signs cause during the day.
And you wonder why people take no notice of the so called ‘service’ the Highways Agency run they are not to be trusted
even to just click a mouse.

So you far too superior and above the law then and they wonder why they say drivers need the DCPC to bring up standard to make us professional
Big Jase:
people tend to ignore the signs until they see anything but that Is often too late.
I don’t think they do ignore them. To ignore them they’d have to read them first. I think most drivers, cars especially, simply don’t look at any signs at all.

I can understand your fustration but have you read aĺl of the thread? Also, read the one about the fruit lorry on the M20 and the other recent one about the M6 closure. The HATO’s who post here have replied with valid reasons to your irks (except the closure signs for the wrong direction)
I’m not about to start feeling sorry for them but I can understand it must be like banging your head against a brick wall.
Also agree 100% with Nick - what makes you above the law?
