Indeed is all agencies ,
Cv library = agencies ,

I jobs agencies
Total jobs agencies
Monster =Links to them all
You will get in bidvest
You will fly in brakes
You will fly into ph
You will be bottom of the pile working like a slave for them people .you need to be 18 for these jobs

I am not getting into my attitude arguements on here .just simply put after 3 solid months of applying and getting all of the above ,You will run out of steam .i am not here to ■■■■ eggs from internet arguers .it is just my feedback .take it or leave it .

Take a little advice newbs ,go straight to haulage firms for every 100 adverts on indeed you will get 1 reply .It will grind you down .Infact best get van work ,see if you then want to progress ,Do van then pass class c ,then see if it is for you ,then think about wasting or advancing your carear into
Cat c+e .you will need plenty of luck
And plenty of patients.for every 1 guy who gets lucky there is 10 guys who will struggle. There are more drivers than jobs .Oh cheers for all the replies good or bad .it will help newbs to see whats what on here and in the haulage business :sunglasses:

Even taking the agency jobs out, there are still well over 500 jobs on there, did you visit them all? Did you call them all? Did you talk to all their drivers? Did you get the names of 500 TM’s and their contact details? Did you follow up on every visit? Did you send them an update a week later? Did you send them a reminder of who you are and why they should hire you 2 weeks afterwards?

Enough said.

Get cracking.

Stop making excuses and go out there and get yourself a job. This isn’t rocketscience.

Thank you for making the point for me.

To side with the OP a little …

At age 40+ a person is generally not as fit as someone in their 20s or early 30s and many of the starter jobs for newbs require that 20/30s level of fitness

At 40+ many employers expect a few years experience so they are confident in giving them the less physical work which in turn usually means knowing what they are doing from the off - here is the keys etc and off you go !

I am not saying it is always the case but it can work out that way

Just out of interest you say your a welder, did you walk straight into a job doing that or do an apprenticeship/college route?

If you walked straight in lucky you, bit like you say about some of the earlier responses you got.

You are starting again and what you think your worth probably doesn’t match others. You need to effectively do an apprenticeship to show what your worth. If you won’t do that then I expect you will be welding the rest of your life as driving, plumbing or sparks won’t be keen to take someone with no experience if they can get someone else with it.

I think its crazy that someone of your age and experience expected to walk in to a good job and top money straight off. A 20 something maybe but no-one older

bloody job sites aside get off ya sorry arse and go visit people sheesh jobs dont come to you. :unamused:

you’ll probably find not many actual companies needing to use sites like indeed as they have people going to them before the job even actually becomes available, its been said before pro active attitude!!! you can bet the jobs you applied for 10 other people have applied as well

Self taught welder ,Walked straight into my own business .also spent many years business hopping earning my money.
As for driving , passed my test in 1987 when tests were tests and those examiners were not friendly like todays lot are ,They tried to catch you out on every street ! Anyway ,
Forklift licence ,Drove 7.5 tonne tippers on and off sites, building playgrounds with heavy plant
Drive my good pals miltary vehicles ,Nothing that has power steering nothing below 5tonnes
I can drive pal.im not a green office wally who just started driving.
I have a solid CV .I DO NOT EXPECT THE TOP PAID JOB WHAT ARE YOU WAFFLING ON ABOUT
THIS INDUSTRY HAS A MASDIVE FLAW .ITS THE DRIVERS DEVIDED AND CONQUERED

take my advice ignore some of these no alls .

I actually called around a bit, calling on behalf or pretending to be a 47 yr old newbie. Got 3 jobs with a few possibles. Fagan, DPD, Stobart. Got a few possibles; Yodel and TRG at Tesco on Class 2, H&G has a few possibilities for me if I want to get to their office in the morning on stores and night work.

I haven’t even called the likes of 3663/Bidvest, Brakes, booker etc, pretty sure I can start there too in a few days if I wanted.

So these aren’t top of the line jobs, but they put food on the table and keep a roof over your head.

Outside of London, you live in the better area of the country, you got to glow in the dark and have 3 eyes not to get a job up there.

And here we go again. Pipe it down, you will never get a job like this.

I sympathise with the OP to a point,I fell for the ‘driver shortage/pass and walk into a 30k job’ nonsense and did my class 2. I did it, the hours nearly killed me and I packed it in because I was worried about falling asleep at the wheel. I was earning the 30k bit but I wasn’t prepared for the hours.
I don’t regret any of it though for many reasons:
I met some good people
Doing the DCPC keeps my C1 alive
If I go the class 1 route in a couple of years I’m halfway there, to name a few.

It’s not a ‘woe is me’ post. I tried it and got a shock. But I’m not beaten yet. Trucks is where I want to be after my 50th birthday in 2020. I’ll be back, more prepared.
Maybe it’s cos I live in the south east, but as a new start I turned down 3 or 4 job offers before I found the one I wanted. I could have delivered fencing,or palletts,or driven a dustcart for the council,if I could have lived on the money. Perhaps that’s the OP’s problem, when you’re 30 or 40-plus you’ve got a lot more outgoings than when you’re 20 and need to earn the dollar.

I’ve lost count of the artic drivers that said to me ‘why don’t you do your class one and open up more jobs?’.

I like this Albert, with every post you make it clearer why you can’t find a job. It shows all the other newbies what not to do and how not to act.

Very educational, a clear example of the attitude behaviour negativity cycle and how it affects your job prospects.

Thank you Albert for a wonderful contribution to this section of Trucknet.
