Re driving jobs

Is it me or are driving jobs few and far between

Very few being advertised, apart from scummy agencies.

There are loads of jobs and in the near future because of the DCPC requirement agencies and Hauliers are going to pay you megabucks as you will be in BIG demand. Why I can see the day when they will be offering us medical and pension packages and buying you a new truck to drive full time just in the hope of keeping you and to prevent head hunters tempting you away! Well that’s what the training companies are telling me :unamused:  So it will be £599 special offer today for your DCPC do you want to book now?

Even the agency jobs aren’t real. I keep clicking and calling and still hear nothing!

The job im in now and my last wernt advertised just called up, on the website of the previous job i was in said they didnt have any jobs but called anyway and if it wasnt because i had to serve by notice i’d of started the next day.

Plenty of work available at Stobarts Goole if you want to work for them numerous vacancies but all involve weekend working though.

One reads a lot about “Banging on doors” and making cold calls etc, but I’ve yet to hear of a GOOD job that’s been landed that way. I personally dont believe it’s ‘because holders of such jobs keep stumn’, just that ‘holders of such jobs won’t be bumped into at the RDC’ for a start!

Let’s hear less of this “It’s a good job because I get paid for a 40 hour week regardless of how many hours I do” because that kind of job will have you working 41-55 hours most weeks, and can’t therefore be classified as “good” if its salaried.
If agencies guaranteed that many hours per week even at average hourly rates, then agency work there would then be considered a cushy number indeed - yes?

“Job Crappiness” consists perhaps of a combination of at least these factors:

(1) Zero hours contracts (biggest bugbear for most people
(2) Poor hourly rates/Salary (big bugbear for myself)
(3) Miles and miles away
(4) Dirty and knackered old kit when you get there
(5) Awkward places to go to like farms at night or low-level docks during power cuts & lockdowns
(6) Cavalier attidude of firm towards their staff - ‘not getting sued’ is all they care about, rather than your own personal comfort & safety.
(7) A lack of Paid holidays based on your average working week’s hours rather than a flat bottom contract. Anyone getting £550 per week “nominal” holiday pay on here as standard?
(8) A lack of Proper PAYE done with everything under the sun done to bump up your pay at no cost to you in a manner that doesn’t ever have the tax office seeing reason to do an audit…
(9) A lack of cheery work colleagues when too many are backstabbing miserable gits trying to keep their heads down, 'cos they fear for their jobs all the time.
and
(10) A lack of decent canteen facilities, secure parking, and other creature comforts that shouldn’t just be the preserve of foreign outfits providing jobs for the no-speake English brigade.

“In line with Eddie Stobarts Rates of Pay” means:
They APPEAR to have a national pay scale like firms such as Royal Mail

but…

You’ll actually be paid Starving Northerner’s rates. You’d never get away with such low pay here in the southeast, so Boss just won’t bother opening a large depot here in Kent, Surrey, or Southeast London for instance. Don’t get me wrong - personally, I wouldn’t mind having a swagger on the agency at ESL, but there just ain’t any around my neighbourhood!
Remember I only left full time because among other reasons I became disatisfied with the bog-standard take home pay that it had become, mainly thanks to falling amounts of overtime coupled with a collapsing RATE for it at the same time. :frowning:

When there are jobs available with £600pw takehome pay again (average 48 hour week to stay legal) I’ll go back to full time. I hope I don’t have to wait too long obviously, but for the time being, I’ve allowed myself until 2018 to make this happen.

Even if such full time jobs NEVER re-appear, any general economic pick up will flood the temp market with so many agency shifts that sheer supply and demand will eventually cause rates to rise sharply. This could happen in turn as early as the end of next year, when we’re led to believe a large trunk of elderly drivers will be hanging up their keys rather than get their DCPC…

Think I’m dreaming?

If we’ve got rid of Cameron by that point, there’s more than a good chance it’ll become reality. The odds on “Cameron being the next Prime Minister” are lengthening rapidly, not because the Tories are expected to “not get a majority” at the next election, but because “Cameron isn’t expected to be Leader” any more.

I see so we are pinning our hopes on Ed Milliband? Think I will top meself now :frowning:
