radio 2

What annoys me is local radio in an area you do not know.
But the the traffic bulletin presenter and regular listeners are familiar with the area and landmarks, for anyone passing through, they won’t know, for example;
The road is shut due to roadworks between the Bull pub and the Tesco gyratiry roundabout, and there is a police incident off Hamilton street by the swimming pool.
They never use road numbers so is useless information.
The adverts on commercial radio make turn to another station, and ditto on Tim Smith and that Vasos guy, whoever he is,and the old woman is tedious now.
Why doesnt Traffic Sally have her own show ?
Steve Wright is like a horse that should be taken away and left in a field to retire, his style is so out of date, years ago he was great.

I record 6musics Craig Charles show on a sat night for playing back LOUDLY ,
and a program on radio 2 at 7pm on a friday, the Broadcaster ( not a “dj” ) has a theme for each program has titbits of info on the music and extensive knowledge on his stuff . The only family references are to Sam ( golden paws ) the cat, its proper music to an old ■■■■ like me , and he speaks proper Queens English and has been around forever .
Desmond Carrington ,the music goes round , shame it only lasts an hour.

Anyone else still missing the dark lord himself Alex Lester, kept me amused when I had a 3 am start?

Fab set of responses, glad to know i’m not alone in my suffering.Sara cox is obviously a nice person but jesus christ,a tad abrasive listen in the wee hours I would venture.Zoe ball I dislike, fake plastic retread from cool-britanniagarbage era that also spawned other phoney evils upon us;Chris Evans,Oasis Tony(hang him high)Blair.ad nauseum.
No my listening now consists of mp3 player but the bugger gave up the ghost last week, but jesus if this is a foretaste of radio 2 for the future time then frankly i despair,Zero Fm,radio,OFF. Radio 4 offers no refuge either, turgid recycled gumph delivered by antiseptic oxbridge drones, and that bloke called Simon.real city of london groupie, prattling on about asset managers and actually salivating in his rhetoric(just listen) when dealing with the type of corporate giants-Lazaard(Rothschild) and Morgan Stanley(Blairs,Rockefeller handlers) my god radio land has turned into the 7th circle of hell almost as if it’s been planned that way.

BBCradio is a bland desert of PC polluted, gender balanced guff,a haven for washed up ex Radio1 shouters, fading “celebs” and various other hangers-on,no doubt with cast iron “golden handcuff” contracts, parachuted in to fill seats.I used to be a fan of 5live but it seems that every show has to be co-presented by some bint who it seems has to have exactly the same talking time as her male co presenter, even if it is just inane drivel and don’t get me started on phone in shows–what is the point in wasting your time calling these shows when within 3seconds of starting to make a point the host (any of them, they’re all the same)will cut across the contributor supposedly playing “devils advocate” but really just enjoying the sound of their own voice

Had to laugh last week going up the M6 I happened upon Eden fm, I thought it was a joke station tbh. They played 3 songs, no chat, then played T. rex 20th century boy, dj comes on & says " that was T. rex & telegram Sam!" Then said " I’ve been told that was wrong, it was 20th century boy singing telegram Sam!" I did in fact guffaw out loud. To top it off he then played it again 4 songs later. Quality local radio.

Baggie:
And another thing,I have to mute the radio to reverse  perhaps I don’t have a feminine side, and can’t multitask :unamused:

Bit like when i.m looking for a new drop, when i.m getting near i turn the radio down so i can see where i.m going

I don’t mind Radio 4, but by Christ “Jim” Naughtie does love the sound of his own voice

You and Yours and Casenotes are interesting too, when I’ve had enough of the music.

The thing with Heart Radio is that the owners swallowed up a lot of good local independent stations which then were part of the Heart brand.

I don’t mind a bit of Classic FM at times too.

Alex Lester was the best thing about radio 2.The rest is crap, fat Vanessa,Jeremy Whine,Steve Loathe the show Wright the whole lot of them.Vine being the biggest bell end on radio. So politically correct and no knowledge of any topic he has on his crap show.Five live is crap too,so very left wing and tedious.Glad I don’t pay towards it.

or alternatively,
,
get the Planet Rock app onto your mobile and run it through your cab speakers … surround sound :sunglasses:

+3. The worst is when you go just far enough to lose every single station. Radio in the DAF I drive is awful. It decides for you when a station is too crackly (all of the [zb] time).

I just remember being so happy when I finally got a station “Radio Silk” somewhere in Cheshire…

The signal always seems a bit patchy. It seems to south part of Cheshire that it aims for but I like listening to that station, seems to avoid repeating the same crap most other stations do. Gold on medium wave in derbyshire isnt bad either if you can cope with the bad quality. Of course nothing will replace Atlantic 252 with its 12 in a row [emoji41]

R2 nights have gone well downhill. The dark lord is only on half a week and they repeat the rubbish shows before fat whale rubbish boring Feltz comes on… nowt wrong with Zoe Ball. Sara Cox . But why is that fat heffer feltz in a job.■■.. makes my bladder boil…

It’s certainly not what it used to be. Thank god for my little Bluetooth gizmo. Takes whatever is coming out of my phone and converts it into a radio frequency, doesn’t need to be plugged into either.

If you think R2 is bad in the week you should try working weekends. You could have such delights as

Anneka Rice
Brian (couldn’t sound more bored if I tried) Matthew
Graham (lifter of shirts) Norton
Tony Blackburn (not even got the dog anymore)
Dermot O’Dreary
Diane (Jesus is brilliant) Louise (I love to praise the Lord) Jordan
Claire (muncher of rugs) Balding
Wogan- talking to people you never knew, or cared existed
Elaine Paige (has to be turned off, as I become verbally aggressive, can’t abide her ridiculous put on laugh, and those idiotic “Break a leg” terwatts that ring in trying to put on an American accent because they’re doing a production of Annie or West Side Story in a public bog in Chorley or something)
Liza Tarbuck whose only gimmick is a squeaky dog toy.
Michael Ball, who has apparently met everyone on the planet.

Other than a couple of old gits, it’s just a bunch of washed up TV lightweights.

Maybe the djs in the week should be put on 4 on 4 off or 4 on 3 off, or have to work 1 Saturday in 4 like the rest of us to mix it all up a bit.

Alex Lester was bloody brilliant, can’t believe they stuck him out where they did. Johnnie Walker could be made better use of too. I think I could even tolerate Janice Long over some of the gash they force onto us.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but Coxy and Zoe Ball are wasted on holiday cover when they could replace some of the rubbish that’s currently on.

Here endeth the rant!

Is it just me, but do you find Simon Mayo and his show relaxing as the day ends, one of the best shows,it’s true about fake and phoney Yanky accents,John Barrowman is the king of that, he grew up in the US, but he is so fake.

alder:
I actually prefer Vanessa to Jeremy Vine

That’s like trying to decide which bit of dog ■■■ you want to pick up and eat.

In reply to Paul, I agree that Dermot O’Dreary should go & play in the slurry pit along with Elaine Page & the fake Yank Luvvies.
However, I quite like Tony Blackburn’s oldies show, most probably ‘cos I am an Oldie myself & remember when a lot of the records first came out. ( Those were the days when I had a six pack, not the furkin I have now :frowning: )
Johnny Walker is superb on Sunday afternoons, as is Paul Jones on Monday evenings. During the week, Ken Bruce quite often gets near the knuckle with some of his throw away lines, but I find Radio 4 Extra’ Comedy hour at midday during the week unmissable.

I enjoyed listening to Richard Allinson on his early hours slot but they got rid of him, also enjoy listening to Tony Blackburn, the ‘dark lord’ and for some reason Paul O’Grady. Can’t stand that idiot Graham Norton, he just goes on like a bloody woman and that Dermot O’…zzzz he’s just boring.

Richard allinson is on Magic now

Get rid of Evans and Vine replace them with Moylesy and Nicky Campbell. Keep Ken Bruce and Simon Mayo…job sorted :sunglasses:

Utterly brilliant analysis there good yeoman,i figured Anneka might achieve an alchemical improvement by now,Not happening really think its fair to say.Kind of like Lisa Tarbuck.eccentric and surprisingly au fait with classy funk and soul music.
Dermot Leery though needs to be liquidated and fast.

Many thanks, I’ll look out for him.
