Radio 2 axes midnight to 3am shows

Well that’s it. No more Alex and Janice from February on Radio 2. Well done BBC, you’ve just killed off of what was left of overnight listening.

Alex is currently on the WM breakfast show. Surprised me when I turned it on this morning.

That’s a shame as although I’m in bed those times I do have a lot of admiration for the Dork Lard as I used to listen to him a lot years ago, so what’s happening the station is shutting at those times or are they airing repeats?

there is just no point in listening to Radio 2 over late night with the possable exception of johnnie walker sound of the 70’s repeat after cutting back and cutting back and overpaying ‘STAR’ dj’s at least janice and alex have charactor and genuine experiance in broardcasting to draw upon the fact that some desk jockey has decided to axe them speaks volumes about the bbc’s attiude towards their listenrship radio 4 aint much better as the world service plays out alot of repeats as well so its off to pop light comercial stations , talk heavy local radio
or get an app for my phone to get bbc digital
As a side note does anybody know what alex and janice are doing in the future…?

Thank god the …

Er um ahhh err ummmm bint is going

recently,on friday’s anyway, they’ve been playing replays of craig charles hip-hop disco garbage between 3-5 am :frowning:

I just Bluetooth whichever chosen radio station from my phone to my radio

Radio 2 has been rubbish for a long time
Richard allinson was always a good stand in, but he’s long gone,

Just thank heaven’s now for the digital and bluetooth

I don’t mind an early start on a Wednesday with Sara Cox 80s show replayed from Friday night. :sunglasses:

No word on Steve ■■■■■ ? 20 years past his sell by date.

One dilemma I had when working nights was what to have on the radio, the Janice Long & Alex Lester shows aside, there was literally nothing any good on so far as national radio goes unless your into your sport (i’m not). Now they have completely gone as well having already been cut down, it’s not good.

Night workers are license fee payers too & should be deserving of some decent, non-‘specialist’ live radio like during the day.

The timeless sound of 3pm…

Night radio is normally better than days tbh
Not for me tho as im off all of january and atm in The Ritz Hotel london in a £3800 a night suite with my good lady till saturday who said days only doesnt pay lol :grimacing:

Not listened to that ■■■■■ in years.
I listen to audiobooks and podcasts during the night and have learnt basic German and Japanese instead of listening to Radio 2 broadcast stuff that’s designed to be chewing gum for your ears.

Alex and Janice are the best on the radio, she plays the 80,s for nostalgia .
I think Simon Mayo is funny when he asks callers " What are you doing there for and why are you going "
Middle class callers on their mammoth journey to nowhere important .
They all say they will have a bottle of wine when they arrive at Aunt Matildas .
What a waste of fuel, clogging the roads, delaying lorries on their hobby drive .
Lisa Tarbuck has stood in, she is good, thats Jimmys daughter .
Martin Kemp would be great on the radio, his son Roman is on the radio and tv .
I have banned Steve Wright and his annoying side kick talkers and Steve singing/humming and whistling over songs.

Or if you want to listen to Radio Caroline (yes , it is still broadcasting ) get the app here…
radiocaroline.co.uk/#home.html

Lots of apps similar to this,it’s all I ever use…and saves constant re-tuning :sunglasses:
play.google.com/store/apps/detai … c&hl=en_GB

Hurry up and axe Chris Evans, literally if possible. The definition of a complete pollution.

Steve Wright needs to shut up and ■■■■ off too, you aren’t funny, you can’t sing and as for that gargantuan helmet Tim, please have bleach for breakfast.

That’s better.

A.

Bloody shame they’re both going, enjoyed them both and Steve Maddern (mug that goes ‘ting’ anyone?!) when I worked nights. Haven’t caught either of them properly for years now that I don’t work shifts, but I’ll miss the fact that they’re not there, even though I don’t listen to them…

I’m sure the Beeb could save money elsewhere, and I shouldn’t think that Alex & Janice are that dear to run, but that’s showbiz.

Sometime lurker here posting for the first time. Hi! This is bad news. Alex Lester is one of the best presenters on radio and his night time show is a broadcasting gem, a real boost when you’re working through the night. The recent changes to the night time schedule have been nothing but bad news. We saved Scooby Doo in the 70’s when that was for the chop and that was a bunch of kids! Petition anyone…? :imp:

Petition won’t work. I’m sure I signed one when they decided to axe the dark lord from the early morning slot and play repeats of shows I didn’t want to listen to in the first place.
