Queues At Dover & Calais

It seems hard to get at the Truth at the moment, ByLine TV have been to Dover and from their interviews & footage Brexit delays in Dover are a reality.

But Yay! Brexit is a triumph! We are all SO much better off, now that we have our precious “sovreignty” Aren’t we?

Millions of the lowest paid workers, including lorry drivers, who do low/unskilled/undesirable jobs that saw a massive influx of Eastern Europeans are considerably better off. Many lorry drivers have seen 10,20,30,40,50% wage increases over the last 12 months with many now getting wages reserved for own contract FTSE 250 listed companies.

Spot on, this was one of the main, if not the main problem with EU membership. If the EU hadn’t enlarged so soon into the ex commie bloc then I’m sure brexit wouldn’t have happened.

Moorhouse talks about the TAP (Transport Access Protocol: queuing system).
Port Of Dover says it has been around for years, (2015) and it is all “normal” to use it. Dover doesn`t say that TAP has already been used as many times this year, as in the whole of last year! Port of Dover= board members appointed by DfT. Obviously all upright and honest independent persons not at all influenced by their bosses.

Biometric passport introduction has been put back by a few months.
The UK has known about this for 2 years.
Anyone care to guess how well prepared Dover is?

Thales’s site is quite detailed, but won’t be talking about downsides.

UK passports have a small camera symbol on the bottom of the front cover if they conform.

You have a habit of assuming people are dishonest.

Why is that?

No. Not true.
Experience has shown that Johnson is dishonest.

Yet you levelled the same unevidenced accusation at Dover Port Authority…

But you’re denying it now.

Thanks for reinforcing my point.

Dover queues report.
theguardian.com/politics/20 … -paperwork

Physical paperwork needed because the UK has chosen a new computing system not compatible with the EU one?

49% of UK business reported trade difficult with EU in Jan 2021.
60% said same in Nov 2021.
If the “teething difficulties” are sorted out at this rate the queues will disappear as trade ceases!

And has the Guardian looked into the fact that France and only France is demanding ‘wet signatures’ on paperwork when everyine else is happy with electronic ones?

Is it only France that requires “wet” signatures? Let`s assume it is.

The biggest truck route from UK to EU needs wet signatures. Why?

3 years ago… we didn`t need wet, nor electronic, nor any (mostly) signatures.
3 years ago… they were French… and we were in the EU.
Now… they are still French… and we are out the EU.
Can you spot the difference?

3 years ago we were in the EU and we had an unlimited influx of cheap labour which supressed our own low paid/ unskilled wages.
Now we’re not in the EU we no longer have this influx and wages have risen.
Can you spot the difference?

3 years ago truck drivers were underpaid in the UK.
We have now had Brexit.
Now there is a driver shortage in the UK, and wages are rising.

There is now also a driver shortage in USA, Canada, and other countries.
Wages are rising there too.
Did Brexit affect them?

Yes, Brexit is probably affecting UK wages.
Maybe not as much as some suggest, but it probably is putting driver wages up at the moment.

If Brexit does affect other industries, what will the longer term outcome be?
If trade is hampered, will production go down or up?
Will we need more or fewer drivers? How will that affect wages?

(PS that is probably nothing to do with queues at Dover. There is a Brexit thread)

Yep, I’m fully aware that there’s a brexit thread so probably going off topic but just wanted to highlight a point.
As for queues at Dover, how is it that drivers are posting about sailing straight through Dover and Calais with hardly any problems yet some sections of the press are talking about the end of the world re queues on those same days?

> GORDON 50:
> Yet some sections of the press are talking about the end of the world re queues on those same days?

Agree, it’s difficult to find out what’s actually going on.
By now there can’t be many in Britain who Believe a word that ‘Get Brexit Done’ Boris says.
By the same Token it’s hard to Believe a word that his sponsors in the Media: Mail, Express, Torygraph, etc… say either, so we are left with the Guardian & the Independant.

I would say that any sane minded person would expect delays at Calais & Dover, if a once seamless borderless process that was just turn up & go turned into a scenario where trucks had to carry reams of 100% accurate paperwork that needed to be checked & approved by our esteemed HMRC or their French Mates prior to entry or departure.

Pretend all you like - delays at Dover & Calais are 100% Brexit, nothing else, not a works party, not the French or British customs being any more awkward than normal.
It Is Brexit, and let’s all hope it doesn’t get any worse as trade picks up in the next few months

Yes I can spot the difference thanks Mr Patronising, yet of all the countries you can enter from the UK into the EU this is not a problem except for one quelle surprise

Hands up, I havent done UK to Belgium, Holland etc. I dont know what they want.
The report says France wants wet signatures, it says nothing of other countries.

But going to those countries the customs in the destination country. So any delay, after what is a longer sea crossing anyway with more time for pre-clearance, will be there, and not at Dover or the port of exit?

But whatever the other countries want the French want wet signatures, because the UK turned down the choice of a compatible computer system. The paperwork is needed because of the type of Brexit chosen, by Johnson, and the incompatible system was chosen by the UK.

“Condescending”? Am I? I didnt realise that. Maybe thats because I am “as thick as mince”?

From my experience there is no problem with the clearing once on the boat/train on the shorter crossings all seemed to run efficiently and plenty of warning given as to what was required of drivers on exiting the port, the issue is getting onto the boat/train in the first place. Computer seems to work ok for going from France to UK loaded today with foodstuffs near Lyon signed the CMR headed straight up the road 2 hours later all customs paperwork arrived via e-mail
Every other country seems to accept what has happened and is now getting on with it, the French saw the agreement before they signed it and so if they weren’t happy shouldn’t have signed it isn’t that what the UK is repeatedly told?

Not sure of your point?
The EU including France are enforcing the agreements reached.

The UK under Frost and Truss are trying to renegotiate and keep muttering about Article 16. Doesn’t like the EU are keen to change what Johnson negotiated and signed to me. They aren’t the ones unhappy are they?

The Exit was so brilliant the renegotiations has been providing more jobs ever since. Another Brexit bonus: more jobs for Civil Servants financed by tax payers.
That’s on top of the tax funded customs and privately funded admin staff necessary for all of these documents dry, wet, or drowning.
None of which were necessary before Brexit, and none of which produces anything tangible that I can see.

My point is if they are all enforcing the same agreement why are the French behaving differently aren’t we always being told that one good point of the EU is that everyone follows the same rules :bulb: or do they?
