Queues At Dover & Calais

Hands up, I havent done UK to Belgium, Holland etc. I dont know what they want.
The report says France wants wet signatures, it says nothing of other countries.

But going to those countries the customs in the destination country. So any delay, after what is a longer sea crossing anyway with more time for pre-clearance, will be there, and not at Dover or the port of exit?

But whatever the other countries want the French want wet signatures, because the UK turned down the choice of a compatible computer system. The paperwork is needed because of the type of Brexit chosen, by Johnson, and the incompatible system was chosen by the UK.

“Condescending”? Am I? I didnt realise that. Maybe thats because I am “as thick as mince”?

From my experience there is no problem with the clearing once on the boat/train on the shorter crossings all seemed to run efficiently and plenty of warning given as to what was required of drivers on exiting the port, the issue is getting onto the boat/train in the first place. Computer seems to work ok for going from France to UK loaded today with foodstuffs near Lyon signed the CMR headed straight up the road 2 hours later all customs paperwork arrived via e-mail
Every other country seems to accept what has happened and is now getting on with it, the French saw the agreement before they signed it and so if they weren’t happy shouldn’t have signed it isn’t that what the UK is repeatedly told?

Not sure of your point?
The EU including France are enforcing the agreements reached.

The UK under Frost and Truss are trying to renegotiate and keep muttering about Article 16. Doesn’t like the EU are keen to change what Johnson negotiated and signed to me. They aren’t the ones unhappy are they?

The Exit was so brilliant the renegotiations has been providing more jobs ever since. Another Brexit bonus: more jobs for Civil Servants financed by tax payers.
That’s on top of the tax funded customs and privately funded admin staff necessary for all of these documents dry, wet, or drowning.
None of which were necessary before Brexit, and none of which produces anything tangible that I can see.

My point is if they are all enforcing the same agreement why are the French behaving differently aren’t we always being told that one good point of the EU is that everyone follows the same rules :bulb: or do they?

I see what you mean. Ta.

I could be flip…maybe the Belgians should up their game and properly enforce the rules as the French do?
As the UK never did with enforcing WTD rules?

I haven’t read the exact rules, but I’d guess that if the French were breaking them the UK would be saying so, very loudly. I haven’t heard that said.

Point remains the same though, without Brexit we wouldn’t be having this discussion at all.

Ed to add from prev link
“Documents with a wet signature from an official veterinarian have been required by the EU for imports of food and animal feed from the UK since the end of the Brexit transition on 31 December 2020. While electronic certification would have been possible using an EU computer system, the UK turned down an offer from Brussels to use the platform and built its own system instead.”

Of course it is perfectly possible that out of the 8 EU countries that have direct sea route from the UK France is the only one to have a professional Customs force or maybe the others are more pragmatic and accept that there will be imports from the UK, after all it’s not like the French have any history in obstructing trade from the UK to the EU.
Anyway back on topic these horrendous cross channel queues causing the collapse of the UK as we know it.
This morning arrived in Calais from handbrake on at the back of the check in queue to hand brake on, on the ships deck 1 hour and 26 minutes, longest delay was at the heartbeat checks and if the girl doing my queue worked as fast as her oppo in the other lane it would have been less, him doing 2 vehicles to her 1. Probably would have got into the lanes quicker if sailing DFDS or Irish Ferries as there was less traffic for these carriers although maybe wouldn’t have a got ferry quicker with these two.
Coming off in Dover the lanes are pretty empty and the lanes from the roundabout to the French border post about half full, so it would appear that any queues outside the port are perhaps not necessary but more precautionary with it not taking any longer to get through Dover than before but any queues outside the port are obviously highly visible.

Nice try…

Mazzer. You’ve quite clearly photoshopped the pics and edited out the 40km line of lorries.

Will you please just admit that the ‘Regroaners’ are right.

My mate told me it was raining in Paris Tuesday.
I went there this morning and it wasn`t.
Therefore my mate is a liar?
I think not.

Ive got no problem believing that Mazzer had no problems today. Ive got no problems believing that others have had problems.

All these queues?

Generating very little attention in what was, and is, a very pro Remain media.

Why is that?

Coudn`t you wait?
9 weeks too early.

Even then I doubt you`d catch anyone except CarryFast.

9 weeks too early - for what exactly?

You were claiming queues now…

As for the Carryfast comment, you never were one for original thought. To be fair though, you regularly get caught but you’re no Carryfast- he at least is honest.

Still no idea wtf you’re prating about when we’re discussing queues now.

Quelle ca change…

Is it another ‘but they will happen’ moment?

I like the logic…keep moving the goalposts and one day you must be proven right?

“Emergency traffic measures to control congestion at the Port of Dover have already been used as many times this year as in the first six months of 2021 combined, following the introduction of new Brexit border checks.”

First post - not for the first time I have no bloody idea what you’re whining about

Second post - an explanation has already been provided by the authorities as to the multiple reasons.

Your response was to effectively question their integrity. I get that many people form opinions based on their own character flaws, but even for you that’s an impressively low allegation.

New Brexit checks double Hull freight delays - but it’s far worse elsewhere, according to The Hull Daily Mail:

Land at Hull docks is being used to ease potential congestion on roads. Spare capacity at Hull’s port is being used to avoid the type of congestion seen on roads leading to some Channel ports caused by new customs controls after Brexit.

However, freight being shipped between Hull and Rotterdam is currently taking twice as long to clear both ports as it did before new Brexit checks started last month.

A new border control post has been built at King George Dock where physical inspections of food imports from the European Union are due to start in July. Before the UK’s departure from the EU, no such checks were required.

"Dover TAP is designed to stop the port town being clogged up with traffic and has already been put in place 20 times so far this year, compared to 69 times for the whole of 2021.

Rod McKenzie, executive director for policy and public affairs for the Road Haulage Association (RHA), said post-Brexit border checks “mean friction where none existed” but that the overall picture was positive.
“Any change is uncomfortable,” he told PA, adding: “That’s part of leaving the European Union and having to do new border customs checks.”
Mr McKenzie said that delays of three or four hours on busy days are to be expected going forward.
Asked if the overall picture of freight moving through Dover was positive, he said: “Yes, I think it is.
“A negative picture would be if the borders were not working and there was total chaos.
“What we have got is friction because there’s a check, but it’s not disastrous,” he added."

Yep, weve got more queues than last year. Yep, friction where we had none. But its positive because it isn`t chaos nor a disaster.

Today has been positive for me too.
I paid an unexpectedly high electric bill, and got caught in a traffic jam for an hour, and its ■■■■■■■ down with rain. But since I havent been shot I am still positive…

I take it you’re a fan of eradicating all tariffs and border controls then?

I think he calls it positive because the system is working and likely to get better as users adapt

It’s just coincidence that human trafficking is now endemic
