I have a question regarding hours and weekend work. In my first four weeks of this job, i have worked the following days listed below -(MTWTF=Mon-Fri, S=Sat)
My question is, when can i next do a Saturday again & when must i take compensated rest etc? I should add that my usual shifts are Mon-Fri day shifts (8 am start)
Does it help if i ask "How often can i do a Sat shift?

Ok. I’ll have a go but I am no expert - Coffeeholic will probably shoot me again
As you work mon - fri every week, you can do every other saturday ( or sunday) and the compensation will be made up on the weekend that you do not work. (did I get that right Coffee ) - wait for the BANG
What time do you finish on a Friday ?
What time do you finish on a Saturday ?
You really need to post what time you finish on a Friday and Saturday to get a precise answer, however when you finish on the Saturday if you’re not starting again until Monday at 8 am you’re obviously having at least 32 hours rest so you’re reducing the rest by 13 hours less the time you finish on Friday until midnight, so if you finish at 18:00 on Friday you would only be reducing the weekly rest by 7 hours which means you could work saturday every other week, it’s not really quite that straight forward but without full information it’s probably the best you’re going to get.

Eh? If he worked the Saturday from 08:00 until 23:00, the max he could work, then he would have a weekly rest of 33 hours, leaving 12 hours to compensate. The time between finishing Friday and midnight Friday makes no difference to this, he will still have 12 hours to compensate for.
I agree that on the information given he can only work every second Saturday. However if any of the Saturdays are a short shift that finished by 11:00 he could work more frequently. 11:00 Saturday - 08:00 Monday = full weekly rest.
GlesgaBill:
Normally finish anywhere between 6-8pm on a Friday if that helps…
Yesterday (Sat) i finished at 14:00
You could work every other Saturday without any problems, you’re only reducing the weekly rest by 3 hours if you finis at 14:00 Saturday and start again at 8:00 Monday.

So i can work every second Saturday? That would be good…say for talking sake i finish at 8 pm on a Saturday (from 8 am)…is that ok?
Yes. you will then have a weekly rest of 36 hours leaving you 12 hours to compensate. The next weekend if you finished between 18:00 and 20:00 Friday you will have a weekly rest of between 60 - 62 hours so the compensation will be made then, 45 hour full weekly rest 12 hours compensation = 57 hours so you are well covered.

I think you can do every other Sat (or ebvery other Sun instead), so long as you have 36 hrs rest between finishing your Sat shift and starting you Mon shift.
(Or 36 hours between ending shift on Friday night and starting on Sunday)
dangerousdave:
I thought you had to have 36 hours break in a week?
No, a full weekly rest period is 45 hours which may be reduced to 24 hours. However in any two consecutive weeks you must have either two full rest periods or one full and one reduced.
