I am not a Euro driver, mainly because of the horror stories which are coming out. With my luck, ill be the 1 in the 10 every time I go over. I have to say though that it isn’t our problem in the UK and the 7million the government is wasting on doing France’s job sticks in my craw sideways.
There is a treaty between the UK and France to allow us to have border controls in Calais, without that the border controls would take place in Dover or Folkestone and any illegal immigrants found would be able to stay in the UK. At the moment when they are found by the Border Agency they are at least kicked out back into France, this leads to massive problems in Calais and calls from their politicians to move the border back to the UK and if that happens our problems with illegal immigrants become far worse and far harder to control.

Exactly, and why the Govt is not trying to blame France. Spending a few million pounds to secure the terminal in Calais is cheaper and best option.
Effectively it is our problem because it is effectively where our border crossing point is.

But our boarder has to be in France, because if they are not securing theirs, we need a way to refuse entry. All it would take is the southern Europeans reinforcing their boarders or an end to the Schengin area. Its Schengin which is making all the problems. We didn’t sign up, so why should we pay for the results of europes stupidity.

You need to have a pragmatic approach, do you think the French are going to put up a big fence? if not surely it’s better we do it and instead of thinking of it as taxpayers money think of it as money from foreign haulage companies raised by the HGV levy, that raised over £40m from foreign truck last year, so £7m isn’t to bad. Maybe they could use the rest to pay for extra security and a few truck stops in Kent.

Or maybe they could use it resurfacing some of the potholed tracks we call A roads instead.
A properly secured port early arrivals truck stop on the French side would help too.
